Signaling: A Message from the Future

Rate this book
In the year AD 4544, a confluence of events shatters a spacecraft in the outer reaches of the solar system, hurling its lone commander, Samantha Hunter, through time and space deep into the past. Meanwhile, in the near future, award-winning New York Times science editor Jonathan Elliot awakens in the middle of the night to an uninvited guest who appears to have materialized out of thin air. The strange visitor tells him a story so unbelievable that Jonathan feels compelled to write a speculative feature article for the Sunday edition. This midnight visit launches a nine-day whirlwind of events that extend from New York City across the continent to Las Vegas, setting off a chain of inexplicable incidents, a national manhunt involving the top levels of government, a series of revelatory conversations about the future, and a team of unlikely collaborators in a race to save a beautiful, mysterious heroine--and quite possibly the future of the human species. Who are we really, and where are we going? Pondering these questions and offering an uplifting message of hope for the future, this novel tells the story of an accidental time traveler stranded in the twenty-first century whose presence may change the course of humanity's future.

I made a mistake with Tilak Fernando's and Ed Stroupe's "Signaling: A Message from the Future:" I neglected to read the "Look Inside" blurb on its Amazon product page before getting it from the library. Thank goodness I didn't pay any money for it. It's utterly unreadable. I got through the Prologue and a couple of pages into Chapter 1 (a bit beyond where the "Look Inside" stops) and had to quit. Very simply, it reads like it was written by high school students. If you're thinking of buying this book, I'm begging you: READ THE "LOOK INSIDE" and ignore the high rated reviews here. Then make a decision.

Signaling is a unique book that uses familiar elements of current sci-fi and action stories, but has a completely original tone and message. Visitors from the future bring a message of sensitivity to the present day. Their future is a sensitive and humane place where human beings have developed their connection to elements and forces that few people are currently aware of. The book is thought-provoking and refreshingly free of violence, for all its action-movie plotlines. Signaling has an innocent quality that sets it apart. It's a hopeful vision of the future, not a dystopian nightmare, and that hopeful vision helps to create the humane future the book points to.

Wow. This story has energy from the very first page and never stops. It's full of twists and turns and you really never know what might change on the next page. I loved it! No doubt, it's a time travel book of the best kind - I couldn't put it down.

This book had its fast moments and its slow moments but all around it was a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed the concept for the story and the characters themselves. The ending was excellent, and I even got a little misty eyed at times. A great recommendation for all who love time-travel novels.

Although Signaling was a little slow to start, once it got going the plot was fast paced, there was always something going on, something new to contend with and that kept me reading until the last page. The writing style made it easy to understand all the technical time travel talk without causing me any confusion and I think Tilak and Ed did a great job. The twists in the plot were not ones that I could see coming and I found myself trying to work out what was going to happen, or what was happening, only to realise I was totally wrong. Overall, I truly enjoyed Signaling, it was a fascinating book to read.

Would I recommend The Signaling for fans of time travelling fiction? absolutely yes, in my opinion. I got a lot more out of the story than I expected, and enjoyed spending every tense moment with its multifaceted characters. I wouldn’t hesitate to read another novel by Tilak and Ed in the future.

If you’re a fan of time travel, you’re going to love Signaling, I found it to be a lot of fun and quite fascinating, having not read many books based around this subject. It’s fast paced with exciting plot twists you don’t see until they smack you in the face, heart stopping moments and fun, lovable characters.

This book was amazing! I love time travel stories. This story has been well-written and enjoyable. I fell in love with all the characters almost immediately, and I got sucked right into the story from the start. The characters grow and develop over the course of the story. This was a great sci-fi story. I enjoyed every page.

I felt HOPE! as I closed the cover on this book... This story emphasizes our ability to evolve. In this day and age it is good news. Not only are we shown to evolve, we are taught how to do it, what capabilities we already possess to open ourselves up to other dimensions and realities.
I was totally engaged in the characters and so drawn into their experiences; I found myself thinking about them as I woke the following morning. I want to know what happened to them.
This enlightening read makes me appreciate life as it is and beckons me to ask, "What else is there?"

This is a moving, dramatic sci-fi adventure that would have easily been at home as a movie back in the 1980s. I mean that as an extreme compliment.

It involves a time traveler-- with the awesome 80s-style name Samantha Hunter-- who ends up in our humdrum non-future era. As such happenstances often do, this results in a cross-country chase with the future of humanity at stake.

It's an action flick in book form with a message unusual for a story about people from the future: In the future, things might turn out OK.

That's just crazy enough to be true.

Tilak and Ed seem to have decent ideas and their execution of those stories is so flawless. They can pull you into the story and the characters' lives. I went into Signaling expecting just another science fiction novel with time travel and characters learning about the consequences of changing time. However, Signaling is so much more than that. I do not want to go into specifics for fear of spoiling anyone. But keep in mind this book is so much more than a time travel book.

This book only recently made it on to my reading list. I didn’t know much about it, but decided to give it a try. As soon as I opened it up and started reading, I knew this book was something special. In fact it was so special, that I devoured it in about four hours! I absolutely loved reading Signaling. I read a lot (book blogger) and I just can’t say enough good things about the book. I would recommend this book to everyone, no matter your age or situation. It’s just a great read.

I have no idea how this book achieved a 4.7 rating. The plot is contrived the characters thin and the authors make the insulting assumption that the reader is entirely unfamiliar with common knowledge let alone some hard science. I regret giving any book a low rating as it represents the authors blood sweat and tears however the truth must be told to those who would consider reading it. Got to 28% of book and abandoned ship.

I enjoyed this book very much, It was brilliant and complex and for a stand along sci-fi there was so much detail and I felt so connected to the characters and wanted them to be safe and ok! It was so unique, I've not read anything like this before and I would recommend it so much if you like sci-fi.

This was such a fantastic book and had so much character development, relationship building and such a cool world. I surprisingly didn't get lost between the time and dimension jumps so I would say it's an accessible sci-fi. The romance were so adorable and I loved that they were a background thing instead of used to flood the plot with annoying tropes.

Signaling was a really fun read that will make your head spin. I must admit that some of the technical-talk jumping made me question the plausibility of some scenarios, but for the benefit of the doubt I'm leaving this confusion to my own shortcomings. I loved the well-formed characters The author definitely made up for all that with an intriguing and promising premise that didn't let me down.

I am usually not a reader of fiction, but this book captured my interest and attention from the beginning. I enjoyed how the author made the characters engaging. The directions that the plot took towards the final chapters of this story were completely not what I had expected. I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful book and would recommend it to all.

The book Signaling is probably the best futuristic book I have ever read. The complex detail and realistic personalities makes this book seems like you are actually there. Not only that but the well-thought out story-line makes this book even more interesting. The characters, good story line, and interactive adventure makes this book one of the best I have ever read.

A friend suggested this book to me sometime back. Honestly, I didn't ever think I'd read it because sci-fi/fantasy really isn't my "thing". I'm glad I gave in. Signaling is one of the best stories I've ever read.
