Daryl Wood Gerber brings us her 2nd suspense filled story following Girl on the Run.

I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of this book.

Chase Day gets a terrifying phone call from a woman he had thought was dead. He knows that voice, his mother’s, without thinking twice he rushes to her aid. He finds her dying of a gunshot wound. In her last breath, she begs him to save his father. A man he has never met. Using his naval officer’s training and experience he tries to find hi

Day of Secrets is another absolutely riveting book by author Daryl Wood Gerber (the first being last year's Girl on the Run), who is best known for her cozy mystery series, but as of late has been branching out into the suspense genre. In a nutshell, Chase, our protagonist is a former Navy man, now history professor, and must overcome the trauma of his past to find and save the father he never knew, all while trying to keep a vital document out of enemy hands. Fast-paced, and quite the page turn ...more

Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber is one of those suspense novels that is hard to put down as it draws you into the story from the first chapter.
Chase Day is a very complex character that has to confront his past, uncover buried secrets and protect his grandmother. As he moves forward to find answers, he doesn't know who to trust. Is he paranoid or are his mother's secrets really deadly? The secondary characters added richness to the story as they all played an integral part of the story.

I am not typically a fan or action, suspense, mysteries, but I gave this story a try and was happily surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Once my children went to sleep I was able to get into it and could not put it down! The book grabs you from the first few pages and holds tightly, bringing you along with it through non-stop action and story-line progress. There are no dull moments, fast paced seems like an understatement. The characters are all very well described and because of the nature of ...more

Most mystery readers know this author as Avery Aames, author of the cozy Cheese Shop mystery series, However, if you are looking for another cozy mystery, keep looking; this isn't it. This is the author's second foray into the suspense/thriller genre. And thrill it does. There is nothing predictable about this story; Gerber takes us on one thrill ride after another. The hero, Chase Day, is a likable, everyday sort of man. A former Naval officer, he now teaches War History at a local college. He ...more

I have read and loved many of Daryl Wood Gerber's cozy Cookbook Nook series, and also her Cheese Shop mysteries written under her pen name of Avery Aames. Day of Secrets is more of a thriller mystery and definitely has a different tone and intensity. The book starts with the main character Chase Day receiving a call from his mother, a women he has thought dead for twenty some years. She asks him to come to the trailer they lived in and to hurry. He arrives at the trailer to find that his mother ...more

Imagine getting a phone call from your long dead mother, racing to meet her, and finding her shot and dying. This starts a fast paced thrill ride that keeps you guessing.

Chase Day is a man that has had more than his fair share of issues but he's worked hard to overcome his past. He has gone from troubled teen, to solder, to history professor. He drops everything to try to piece together the past he thought he knew. Too many details will spoil the book, but just buy it and read it. If you like fa

I loved the complexity of the characters and the plot in Day of Secrets. Chase Day received a call from someone he thought was long dead...his mother, asking him to meet her. When Chase arrives, his mother is barely hanging on, but manages a few words. This sends Chase on a mission to find the father he never knew, and to figure out who killed his mother and why.

I flew through this story on my Kindle. I didn't want to put it down until I traveled all the twisty paths the author was taking me on.

This was a suspense novel that hit me like a breath of fresh air. As someone who thoroughly enjoys thrillers, it is usually difficult to find one that you cannot predict. I was unable to predict where this book was going and found it bothersome to have to put down without necessary good reason. Wow. That was the first word that came out of my mouth when I finished this book yesterday evening on my evening break. The second phrase was "Holy Toledo that was intense!" Both of which are dead-on accurate.

Chase The Day, yes, that’s the first, middle, and last name of the lead character in Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber that I had the displeasure of reading. DAY OF SECRETS is an enthralling, fast paced thrill ride. From the first sentence, I was compelled to see what happened next, devouring each word.

Gerber steps out of her comfortable cozy mystery genre to firmly make her mark in the world of suspense and thrillers. Her characters are well developed while still leaving some things to the reader’s imagination. The story comes to a satisfactory conclusion, but I was left wanting the story to go on. To me, that is a sign of good story telling.

Gerber has written a gripping story that is filled with deception, lost love and more than a few great chase scenes.

And then he has a message on his phone from the mother he believed was dead. He gets to her as she lies dying, and thus begins a dizzying assault of twists and turns and trying to figure out how, and
