Rising Star is book one in the brand new series, Shooting Stars, by Terri Osburn. I have only previously read one short story by Terri but I fell in love with it. Why I never read anything else is the big question here. I decided to jump in now because this is a new series and well, just look at the cover. I can’t say no to a man that looks like that in his Stetson. This book was amazing. It was everything, fun, sexy, the Hero was seriously swoony. Sometimes when I fall in love with a book right ...more
I love music. I mean all music. Everything from Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline to Bad Religion and the Dropkick Murphys. I love Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, Pop. I love it all.

But I don't much like books about the industry. For me the music is a story on its own and I don't need to or want to look behind the veil. Calling a spade a spade, I find the "business of stardom" vacuous.

So I wasn't expecting to love this book. Hell, I was worried I wouldn't even like it.

I should not have worried.

A very sweet and charming story. And nice set up for a music/band series. Dylan was just practically perfect. All full of southern manners, sweetness, talent, witt and good looks. Charley was a sassy girl with big ambition and grit that I liked a lot. She had just a bit of QUICK/DRAMATIC reaction to their situation. It was a bit OTT with the speed she took action based on circumstantial evidence. The whole drama situation was kind of over done and unfortunately predi

My Musings

Oh my goodness!!! I LOVED this book. Terri Osburn just keeps getting better and better. I couldn't put this one down, and I hated for it to end. Great character development, and a fantastic plot. Can't wait to read the next one in this series. Happy ☺reading 📚!

Sweet read

Sugary sweet read/listen. Started off slow but then picked up. No real action just done predictable drama. It was interesting to see some inner workings of the recording industry and the PR blitz.

I listened on the way to work. Kinda of a weird narrator at times. I think I will check out the second book.

Fans of the tv show Nashville are going to love this series! This is a great story of a singer songwriter working hard to make it in the music business. He's had one shot and blown it so now he can't let anything get in his way. Dylan Monroe has everything planned out. That is until he meets one of Nashville's up and coming DJ"s Charley Layton. Charley is smart, sassy, and beautiful. Everything he never knew he wanted. But now that he has her how can he keep her and kick start his career?? Terri ...more

This book totally stands alone and does not end on a cliffhanger. It contains both cursing and on-screen sex, so if those thing will cause you to leave a bad review, you should probably skip this one.

One of the things that Ms. Osburn does beautifully is to write male characters who are darn near perfect. They don't have to be swaggering “alphas” (a term that in the romance world seems to be synonymous with 'total a-hole') who order their women around and act like total jerks to be sexy, they're

I am a huge country music fan so I was so excited from the blurb to read this story! Bonus for me it was better than I expected. This is a fast paced, fun, make your face hurt smile book. This is a book that gives every romance reader exactly what we want, that take me away and make me forget life for a couple hours.

Dylan is an upcoming Nashville star that is getting his second chance at his dream and Charley is an upcoming radio DJ trying to make it in Nashville. I loved the mix

To be honest, even if I hadn't been a huge fan of Terri Osburn's, I would have bought this book for the cover art! But seriously, I love this book so much I finished it in a day! Dylan, the upcoming country music star, well represented by the sexy cowboy on the cover, and Charley, the up and coming DJ on a popular Nashville station, were both extremely likable characters. There was a very palpable attraction their first meeting, with a rapid progression in their relationship which Dylan believed ...more

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is a very enjoyable book - and I am looking forward to more installments. Ms Osburn does a great job of introducing us to a new set of interesting people and the Nashville scene. There were plenty of side stories which could develop in the future, and a very satisfying core too.

This book does a really good job of getting us right into the music world, and unusually also brings in radio - which is of course an excel

This book was just okay. I felt like it needed more to hold my interest though which was an issue.

The book pretty much went as expected, with no major surprises.

This was the first book that I read from the writer Terri Osburn and to my delight I liked it very much. When I read the blurb I was very curious about the story because I have read many ‘rockstar’ books but this was my first book about a country singer.

‘Rising star’ is a contemporary story that is writing very fluent and that is a light and easy read . The story is told in both POV’s.
If you’re looking for a story with a good guy in it, then you really have to read this one. Dylan Mon

When I first requested a copy of Rising Star from Netgalley, I have to admit, It was simply a cover request. Sexy man in a cowboy hat, I could not resist! And I'm glad that I have no control over my brain when it comes to sexy men in cowboy hats!

Rising Star is the story of a struggling musician/songwriter Dylan Monroe and a new radio D Jay Charley Layton.

A few years back Dylan had it all by the tips of his fingers until his all wasn't good enough. He was let go from his label and tossed aside.
Country music tells stories from a real-world viewpoint where love and loss can go hand in hand. Being a fan of the genre, I hoped Rising Star would use its Music City setting to showcase a romance worthy of a Country ballad. Unfortunately the story is more like Pop music; enjoyable but with little heart behind the words.

In the south, Country radio is king and nowhere is that more apparent than in Nashville. Getting a mid-day DJ slot on the popular Eagle 101.5 is no small feat for small town gir

I have been excited to see this series of Terri Osburn's start. I fell in love with her Anchor
Island Series and to this day I say it is my favorite series. Then Ardent Springs came along
and I did enjoy it and all the people from it but was not drawn into it like Anchor Island.
Terri always writes books that are full of humor and heart, and people that could be your
friends. Rising Star, the first in this new series is no different. It has the Alpha male

This was a fun one to read. I loved how Charley and Dylan met, but knew that Dylan keeping what he did a secret would cause problems. Dylan could have taken advantage of things, but he didn't, instead he showed Charley a good time with the low key things they did. It was fun to see their romance evolve, but I knew the issues that were coming, you could see it coming. It was interesting to watch Dylan get his eyes opened. I loved that even though Dylan didn't know what was going on with Charley, ...more

I have been a fan of Ms. Osburn from the beginning of her writing career. This book to me is a departure from her previous works. Set in Nashville its a story of an upcoming artist named Dylan and a DJ called Charley. Though it is a departure from her previous novels it was an intriguing plot that i have not read before. Not only is the story up Dylan trying to make it in the music business we meet several secondary charcacters. We meet Casey(whose the drummer in Dylan's bad) who is nursing a br ...more

Four and a half *Country Music* Stars! I liked this book. I didn't love it. It took me awhile to read due to meds giving me fits. Everytime is lay down to read I'd fall asleep. There were times when I was reading and could've sworn I'd read it before. But the deeper I got the better it got. It had its slow moments but wasn't bad. If your a country girl like myself or a country music fan. I'd recommend this book. I got my romance steamy at times. I also got my HEA. And a little look into their fu ...more
Love the chemistry between country star, Dylan Monroe, and radio personality, Charley Layton. Dylan is a really good guy which prevents him from seeing just how sleazy his manager is. The things Dylan's manager did to destroy Charley's and Dylan's relationship should have landed him in jail. Charley is a strong, independent woman who doesn't put up with anyone's bad behavior and Dylan really respects that. Elvis and Charley's grandfather are hilarious. Really cute story!
Not much of a start.

It was promising but got bored of it.

Charley was pretty much a nitwit and you'll know when at the moment you read it.
Rising Star brings together up and coming Dylan Monroe, a country western singer and Nashville's hottest DJ, Charley Layton when they meet on her birthday at a night club in Nashville. I loved the chemistry that started the first night and just kept getting hotter and hotter.

Dylan still had his tours and commitments that kept them apart and a manager with a problem working hard to get rid of not just Charley but his long-time band brothers too. The happy ending with a wedding, a perfect cake and

Sometimes the line between blogger and fan gets blurred. I started reading Rising Star as a blogger to clear my reading list. But my reading quickly became that of a fan, as I was quickly reminded why I was one of Terri Osburn's first fans. She drew me into the story with likable, relatable, everyday characters. Dylan Monroe may be an up and coming country singer but he's real. He's just a guy from Louisiana with manners galore. He doesn't want to be famous. He just wants to make music. Charley ...more

Rising Star by Terri Osburn
A Shooting Stars Novel, Book 1

I love books that make me want to step into and become part of them. This book made me wonder what it would be like to be a DJ on the radio as well as think about what being a star really means. Who is behind the person who makes it to stardom? Who assists and who doesn’t? What does it take to be the significant other of a star? What qualities are required to make it to the top? This book made me think and that is always a good thing. It a

Dylan has lived the single life but is now looking for more. He is a Southern boy, charming and well mannered.

What happens when the newest DJ and the newest country singer decide to spend time together? You get a hot story of romance and snarkiness.
Charley is going to make it without any man she believes in romance but it is not for her . She is going to DJ and make something big of herself. She didn't plan on Dylan. With her negative roommate telling her no men, and her other friends teaching her to give love a chance her head is spinning. On top of it she now has a serious complication and can't get
