This week, the court for Habieb Rizieq was held on the accusation of provoking group of mass attacking their ‘enemies.’ Still well-remembered, two groups of people, two different beliefs, two truth of self-assumption, were confronting each to each, they say, attempting to erect the truth. Truth? For whom? The mentioned-case is an notable example of how easy to fertilize hatred to the outsiders of certain ‘non-believers.’ Pluralism, even Islam recognizes the fact, is no longer, for this nation-In ...more

Selalu suka sama tulisan Mbak Ayu. First time I read her book, I was really surprised with the storyline. Fortunately it was published a long time ago before everybody is turned into a beast, I mean today there are so many people fights and becomes inhuman because of their own believes. But Ayu can helps me to open my mind and rethink that there's a lot problem that are happen because of believes itself. Ya just like today. ...more

I have to admit I probably would never have picked this book if it hadn't been in the Oxfam Novib book club series a couple of years aho. It didn't appeal very much to me from the cover text. Two rock climbers, one of whom sees supernatural things? I have very little interest in either subject. I think mountaineers have a death wish and rockclimbers are even worst. I am very unspiritual and don't usually have a lot of patience for it. Still, this book was a pleasant surprise.

to be honest, this book is beyond me...there were times (a lot of it) i can't help but wonder, what it is really about, but i can not say i didn't enjoy it though...

reading this book made me feel like a sponge absorbing the 'new' knowledge presented by these threesome, and provided by the 'iblis betina' herself, Ayu Utami. who knew that babad tanah jawi is really this interesting. i would never knew if not because of this once 'Wajah Femina'. She's really smart ya...

Sangat jarang saya menemukan karya yang begitu 'pas' dengan selera baca saya. Buku ini adalah salah satu dari top 10 list item saya pastinya.
Kisah, plot, karakter, serta bahasa yang digunakan sangat unik. It's like make you 'must-think' but somehow you understand it deep inside. Yah, begitulah saya menggambarkan buku ini.

One of the most thing I like in this book is about the kind of sense of humor reserved. I've gotta admit that most of the times I've gotta paused the reading just t

So far I've managed to finish half of the book. Bilangan Fu is a type of book that inspires as well as surprises me. I might not say it entertains but it's quite interesting to follow.

There are two main charachters in this book. The first is Yuda, a modern-thinking climber who make friends with Parang Jati, a geology student from ITB who's in a mission to learn climbing technique from Yuda.

At first, the very different personalities make Yuda feels discomfort with Parang Jati. Yuda embraces logic

Yuda, a young climber who hates city and all the modernization connected to it, have a several weird intimate and odd dreams that makes him become obsessed on something called Bilangan Fu.
Later, he meet Parang jati, a young man with angel eyes with 12 fingers who able to make Yuda change from "dirty" climber to "sacred" climber in order to protect the nature & hills.
The story is not only about young climbers with their dreams to climb several hills and mountain, but also about their identity, th

This books emphasize what differences in modernism, monotheism, and militarism. Modernism, reflected in one character, named Yudha, sceptic, rationalist, and capitalist. Monotheism is described by Parang jati, who tells us that all the form of monotheism can't save our forest, air, water, mountain from exploitation and violance, like the traditionalism did well. The last one, militarism wrap everything depends on it needs. It opens my eyes that all events previously happened in my life, murder o ...more

bilangan fu inspired me to look back classic indonesian tales–something i never think about. she "told" us how to respect nature, origin culture, and i do love her thoughts! meanwhile, the spiritual problem (intolerance, fanatical religious groups), it's not a new things for me.

well, her unpredictable opinion about something has been amazed me. friends said her previous book is better, i agree. there's no melancholy love story or uniquely politically character, as you find in saman. believe that

This book is SAD but yet DETAILED. There are same confusions in the beginning. But please ignore them because in the end everything will be explained beautifully. There is one part that annoy me a little bit where the author tried to introduce herself. But after finish the book, I kind of get why the author is being introduced by the character who is the storyteller. Overall, I admire the bravery of the author on the plot.

It was the first Ayu Utami's book that I read. It has lots of opinion about lots of things. It contents critics about nature, authority, dumb fanatism, and so many other things. It fills you up with so many things. Not all great and spectacular, but it really worth to read. Especially knowing that this book is the main book of other Bilangan Fu's series like "Manjali dan Cakrabirawa", "Lalita", and 10 other books that is currently being produced. ...more

Cheers to the very best living author of Indonesia!
a little comment here and there on this book, but after all,
we can shut our comment up as Ayutami ingeniously and meticulously wrote all the alibi she needs for whatever a great book ever need. Satisfying from all aspect, truly a master piece of Indonesia contemporary literature.

My hubby complains about its number of pages, but I love it!

The Indonesian younger generation, who get politically conscious (grin) after the 1998 reform, can learn more about Indonesian democratic transition and consolidation from this book.

I hate that Ayu made someone killed. But that was what happened in those years. Good young people were murdered. Even worst, it was extrajudicial.

So far, I don't like the vulgarity that brought by Ayu Utami in most of her novels. But anyway, I start to enjoy the story after I read about 70 pages. The story itself not Bilangan Fu - centered. Eventhough Bilangan Fu become the reason of the relation among the cast, but the emphaize of the novel is about the relationship it self and the modernity vs nature vs culture. ...more
