He Lived Next Door
and pretty lies.
When I lost them
I chose neither.
I wrapped myself in silence.
My husband, my best friend, became a stranger who gave up.
He moved next door, and everything changed.

Be careful what you ask for because the answer may not come the way you think.
♦ Be advised: I don't usually read reviews for books before I read them unless the book I'm interested in has a lot of low stars. This could be an exception for a lot of readers, in fact, I'm not sure I would have read it if I had known. (view spoiler)[At 70%, the book's twist has a very strong religious/paranormal theme and continues through the rest of the book. There are some religious elements from the beginning but nothing as intense at the end of the book. (hide ...more
(view spoiler)[This book has major religious themes that were very blatant. As soon as one of the side characters told the H to pray, I stopped reading because I just can't deal with that in my romance. (hide spoiler)] There's an authors note at the end about her reasons why she took the book in this direction, and that's fine. Just not for me.

Ok, wow, I've had a hard time writing this review.
First things first: the book is not bad. I can see many people liking it and giving it very good rating. Portia's writing is as good as always, after all. But it is just not my cup of tea.
From the very beginning, I found Bryce way too cheesy. Seriously, if someone did to me what Bryce did to Chassidy (the whole "I fell in love with your voice so I need to find you even if it's the last th ...more
Couldn't stand the selfish, bitchy hypocrite of a heroine! Bryce deserved so much better than what he got with her and I wish he'd divorced her and moved on. After everything she went through, I should've felt some sympathy for her, but I didn't.
And I didn't even get to the God/angel part!
I don't think author is for me.
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
I'm not sure how to feel about this book.
Chassidy's life is falling apart. After losing her second child, she's decided to hold her pain inside and grieve alone. In doing so, she pushes her husband away and their marriage reaches a turning point that she isn't sure they can come back from. Add in a tempting agent and mysterious neighbor and you have a recipe for disastrous decision-making.
Bryce wants his wife back. The woman he fell in ...more
There is a paranormal aspect of the book (Angel/Demon). Also, there is a strong religious theme going on.
As far as I have understood from the reviews I have read, the last quarter of the book is heavily based on religion, belief, faith and finding salvation through religion... (hide spoiler)]
Nope, none of these elements are the ones I want to read about in my romance book. Although ...more
Today, I played a game I dubbed "Kindle Roulette." See, I download books daily, many, between 3 and 5 usually. I snag them up when they go on sale or as freebies, stocking my kindle with stories the way doomsday prepers stash canned goods and water bottles. This means that I have thousands of unread books waiting for my attention, and a terrible inability to make decisions, ever. Kindle Roulette helps. Quick swipe-scroll with my eyes closed and ...more
Well, this story went in a much different direction than I originally thought. Just when you think
you have it all figured out, the author surprises you. I like that!! He Lived Next Door is very different from what I am use to from this author. I was wowed by this author when I somehow picked up If I Break, 3 years ago...wait, how could it be 3 years?!? I have been anticipating every one of Portia’s releases ever since, which ha ...more
This book! 😵😍 So many emotions, and I loved them all! When Portia asked me to review this, I knew as soon as I read the synopsis I had to read this one. That's why it surprised me that it took a little while for me to get into it. It wasn't until around 20% that I started liking it, but as soon as things started to pick up, I knew I was in for a wild ride! I loved how this story progr ...more
A new standalone romance from the author of the fabulous If I Break series. This is completely unrelated to any of her previous books.
Chassidy is struggling with life. Following a double tragedy her life is falling apart at the seams and she is unable to stop it. She knows that she is pushing the love of her life away, but she feels so helpless under the grey cloud that she now lives under. One thing she does know is that the love she has for Bryce still remains, but is it eno...more
This book has nothing to do with Portia’s previous books. This is a completely new story.
I have to say this book blow me away I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book. It is different from Portia’s other books but just as good, once I started I couldn’t put it down. I will say a bit about the story but try not give anything away.
They are both going through some difficult stuff and Chassidy is struggling with it and she seems so lost she thinks Bryce doesn’t care and the ...more

I dived straight into this,
One I loved the cover,
Two, I loved the blurb,
Three, It's Portia Moore.
I've read previous books by this author and loved them, the heartwarming, emotional stories, so understandably I dove in.
This isn't my usual kind of read, it probably won't be your usual kind of read. This book will get so many different reactions.
I've been on a rollercoaster ride with these characters and I've never felt this befo ...more
