Librarian's Note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN B06XV66VNS

He drives her crazy - and not in a good way. But she can't get him out of her head.

Katella Hanson hasn't made the best choices. After her grandfather was murdered, her boyfriend and first line center of the Newport Beach Seagulls, breaks up with her because he can't handle it anymore - whatever that means - and demands to be traded to a different team. When he comes back a year later in order to practice with the team, Katella goes into a downward spiral, hooking up with another team mate and then breaking things off once he found someone he was more serious with.

She's a hot mess and she needs to get her act together.

It doesn't help that one of the team's new acquisitions, James Negan, is the biggest jerk she's ever met. Sure, he's sort of good looking in a rough way and he's an excellent hockey player. But he's a jackass and Katella has sworn off hockey players.

Until he kisses her one afternoon in the team's gym.

Now, he's all she can think about, even with her ex coming back to the team and trying to make up for leaving her.

The AllStar weekend is coming up, and for the Gulls, that means doing their annual AllStar Auction, where the general population pay an obscene amount of money to come bid on a date with each player, raise money for charity, and congratulate the team's AllStar selection. Katella doesn't expect to bid on Negan but she does. And she wins. Negan owes her a date and he's all too happy to oblige. Now, Katella must sort out her residual feelings for her ex, this new attraction to a man she thought she hated, and decide what she really wants at the end of the day.

Warning: This novel deals with Alpha male hockey players who aren't afraid to swear, get rough, and fight for the women they love. Don't read if you like your heroes polite, refined, and restrained.

Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.

I'm still loving this series very much. Not only do I love hockey but I love these stories. The characters are very wonderful for the most part. I will admit after reading this book i still think that Seraphina is better than Katella. However, I do enjoy both sisters. I was happy that Katella finally found a guy that makes her happy and she is comfortable around. I just hope by the end of the series they are still together.

In this story, Katella Hanson gets it on with James Negan, a new player who gets on her nerves by making juvenile comments. There is some discussion about team rules that forbid dating between players and team employees but somehow Katella has still managed to date several players. There is some unfinished business with her ex, and his, that comes to fore when she bids on Negan at a charity auction. I liked some of their banter but I got a bit distracted by continuity errors.

I think the author struggles a bit with remembering what she wrote previously, and should consider getting a bunch of nitpicky beta readers who focus on consistency.

In the first book Katella was said to be 27 which sticks to the mind because she makes an awful lot about how 27-year-olds are supposed to behave although I was not aware there are specific rules about that. She is mostly regretful because she hooked up with another player in the team for a rebound and some people are slutshaming her for it. Even Katella herself thinks of her fling with a player in the team as a trainwreck. But 27-year olds have sex and there doesn't have to be anything wrong with it. But I digress. This book happens some time after the first book but she's no longer 27, she's said to be 26.

There's a fight between Katella's ex Matt (is his last name Peterson, or Peters? The author isn't sure) and Negan that happened straight after Negan heard a conversation between Katella and the ex. There is no clear indication that Katella left the scene before Negan showed up and the fight started but she is not aware of the fight later. She sees her ex afterwards looking relaxed and handsome and notices no injuries on him, but when she sees Negan's black eye he tells her that Matt looks worse than him. And lo behold, five minutes later when Katella sees him Matt has facial injuries. Negan asks her to come eat spaghetti with him and she says yes, but then they seem to just forget about it.

It is said that Negan is very tall but she gets off the treadmill to be more level with him. When she sees Negan emerge from the locker room after a game he's still got his mouthguard on and carries his helmet and stick. Why is he taking his gear home? What on earth did he do in the locker room if he never even took his mouthguard off? Why is it Katella's job to ice his bruises? I thought NHL teams have people to take care of the players' gear and injuries.

When they are planning the charity auction it's said to start at seven pm, but on the actual day of the auction, Katella starts preparing at five o'clock, takes three hours to get ready, plus the time to drive there, so it's twenty past eight, give or take, but she's only 20 minutes late. At the party, Katella introduces herself to Melanie twice.

The first time Negan's ex wife is mentioned her name is Andrea but subsequently it's Edina.
Dimitri's ex is named either Deena or Deanna.

At the auction, there is a bidding war between Katella and Edina/Andrea. The starting price is 500 dollars (why is Negan's starting price higher than the AllStar players who start at $250?) and it ends at 5000 dollars, and their bids add 250 dollars or more at a time, but somehow, after they got to 2000 dollars quickly they then spend 20 minutes bidding. It is said that the bids had already surpassed 4000 dollars but in the winning bid, the auctioneer (Katella's sister Seraphina) asks Katella if she will bid 3500 and she replies 5000. It must have been very boring, slow auction for the audience if they took 20 minutes to consider these bids. After the auction, Seraphina is upset because some gorgeous woman bid on her crush. But she was the auctioneer and would probably have caught the woman's name afterward when the payments were sorted out.

Negan and Katella's first argument in the book is about what sort of gift baskets the players should donate and Negan makes a stupid comment that had me wondering what kind of basket he would come up with but the baskets were never mentioned again. .

Chapter 19 starts with this passage:

"Katella’s head was swimming. She wasn’t sure how to respond to Negan’s comment. Not that she had the time to respond at all. He was off to play before she had anything to say."

This was a huh, what? moment if anything, because Chapter 18 ended with Kate talking and telling him to go play, and his previous line was "But you-". He hadn't said anything shocking that she failed to respond to.

There was an altercation with his ex and it is said, "Somebody must have seen what happened because security was making their way over as they spoke." But later: “Security wasn’t called and no one was around to know what happened.”

Negan's reaction made no sense: "What surprised him was the instinct in him to protect Katella, even against a woman. He had never hit a woman and wouldn’t think to do so now, but his instincts wanted to restrain Edina even if that meant harming her to protect Katella. And that scared him. To have no self-control that followed logic because of one person scared him."

Huh, what? He makes it sound like it would have been better to let Edina/Andrea to keep hitting on Katella because she is a woman. I don't think so, pal. Assault is assault, whether of the male or the female persuasion.

I am sure most readers wouldn't even notice some of these but I tend to get stuck on continuity errors and they take me out of the flow of the story when I go back and forth checking if I remembered things wrong from before.

Steam level: Some sexual content. This is a line from a sex scene: "His hands found her hips. Somehow, he didn't even have to open his eyes to find them." They're standing so his mouth is on her nipple at the time so I think it would be pretty easy for most people to work out that her hips are likely to be found slightly below her tits level.

I got this as part of a box set from Booksprout and this is a voluntary review.

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
Cover has an almost frosted looking appearance with a barely visible title. Creatively, it is appealing, but it has nothing to grab and keep the eye when scanning through pages of thumbnails for the next "must read" book.

> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Third-person

Katella is the older Hanson sister, in charge of event planning for the team. She's having to deal with an ex-boyfriend that was signed back onto the team after dumping her right after her grandfather died and the newest hothead veteran on the team.
Negan is a sarcastic instigator. He left his old team after his divorce to start anew, however, his cheating on his wife seems to cling to him though no one has sought to ASK about it.
It was a somewhat confusing plot, especially in the beginning when it was not immediately clear who the lead male was supposed to be - or if this was going to become a M/F/M menage. Secondary characters mostly consisted of the team. Chemistry was okay, but the "sex scenes" were not good - at all - and if I ever read a scene like this again, it will be an automatic DFN:
"He only spilled himself inside of her after he shattered her. She was like a boiled noodle, boneless and fluid, unable to make anything in her body firm and stable."
*gag* Sorry.
Cast dialogue and interaction felt believable, most of the time. The plot had a solid concept, but average delivery. Predictability was low. Conclusion was satisfying.
Overall, this was an average read for me with mediocre characters and a plot that allowed my mind to wander too frequently.

⭐ ⭐ **** Disclosure of Material: I received a copy of this book from the Author/Publisher with the hope that I would voluntarily leave unbiased and unsolicited feedback. I was not asked, encouraged, or required to leave a review - nor was I compensated in any way. I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising". ***** ⭐ ⭐

Edited to add:
Sorry, but this is one instance of how the elemental scoring of content is much higher (4.0) than personal opinion. If I went by personal preference and opinion, this probably would have received THREE stars for a few reasons.
I just could not get passed that noodle reference.
The writing style felt better suited to Young Adult or New Adult rather than mature adults. Perhaps as this author continues her journey as a writer she will grow and mature in persona as well as writing, but it was hard to buy that her lead characters were the age as they were written.
The plot failed to hold my attention. My mind began wandering around 40% and I truly struggled with maintaining any desire in seeing how it would end for these two.

A More Intense Story Than The Others

This is the second story in the Slapshot Series. This book focuses on Katella Brown, co-owner of the Newport Gulls hockey team, and James Negen, second line center on the team. Last season Katella's grandfather was murdered and her boyfriend, Matt, dumped her and demanded to be traded to another team. This season he has returned to the team but instead of returning to his first string position, he is fourth string. James Negren, usually called Negen, is new to the the team. He is an intense person who enjoys getting under people's skin and pushing them into reacting. He seems to take great joy in needling Katella. More than one person comments that it's like being back in junior high where the boy picks on the girl he likes just to get her attention. This puts him and Matt at odds with each other. They even get into a fist fight about it early on in the story. Meanwhile, Katella is conflicted because she still has feelings for Matt and doesn't know if she likes or hates Negen. There is a fun scene where Katella gets into a pissing contest with Negens ex-wife at a charity auction where the players are being auctioned. Negen is an intense character and that intensity permeates the story. He can be painfully honest and doesn't suffer fools. This was an enjoyable story and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

So I read the blurb and was interested, I read the author's warning and was hooked. I have come to love this author and in particular I am making my way through her Slap Shot series. Holy hotness so far, sport romance to a whole new level. Of course, the sport of choice here is the Gulls hockey team. Man oh man, what a team of hotness and intrigue do we got going on here. This book is about Negan and Katella. Katella is a mess in life at the moment and has a history with hockey players. Her ex broke up with her and traded to another team but a year later he is back. If that isn't challenging enough Katella meets and believes she hates Negan. Well, we all know that feelings, of any kind can only mean one thing but when that feeling is hate.....remember when you would be upset and tell your Mom that a boy would throw rocks at you and pull your hair, it didnt necessarily mean he hated you. Great read, can't wait to read more.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Katella and Negan. This is the second story in series and looks at a different pair while still interacting with the rest. Katella/ Kat is still reeling for the death if her grandfather and trying to be strong for her sister, Seraphina. She was dating Matt for two years when he dumped her. Now he's back to skate with the team and she's been acting out, first having a rebound with Xander and getting smashed. Now she has James Negan giving get grief and teasing her constantly. Matt and James keep sparring verbally over her they've even gone to blows over it. The story builds on how Kat and James try to fight there attraction but just can't. Even when their exes are causing problems for them the chemistry is still there. can't wait to see what happens in the next story with these two as well as everyone

This is amusing, unpredictable and sweet. James is a cheeky wise-ass, who acts out towards Kat because he likes her but doesn't want to. He's a fierce protector and likable character. Kat is feisty, explosive, confused and caring. Matt is a grade A jerk who strung Kat along until he could run away. When Matt comes back to the team he acts like he can tell Kat how to act and who she could date. That doesn't sit well with her or with James, so James increases his attention to Kat because he wants her to concentrate on him, not Matt. There's lots of drama and fireworks between the three of them, but in the end love prevails.

Oh this book is soo good.
Katella Hanson's life changed after her grandfather was murdered. Her boyfriend Matt quickly broke up with her and asked to be transferred to another hockey team. She was broken hearted and didnt make the best decisions. Now a year later, he is back playing for Newport Beach Seagulls and is even more confusing when James Negan starts behaving like a boy in primary school. When ever Kat is talking to the team Negan is quick ask stupid questions and Matt doesn't like it. But Negan doesn't care he just like winding Kat up. Or is there another reason for his teasing??
This is a fantastic second book in the slapshot series and I'm super excited to read more.

Black Eyes and Blue Lines (Book 2); Katella is the older sister of the Seagulls GM and wants nothing to do with running the team. Luckily she's their event manager so she gets to have all the fun with little to no responisibility. But her ex-boyfriend, who ran when she needed him the most, has just come back to town and is making her life hell. When one of the most recent trades, James Negan, overhears a conversation between Kat and her ex, he is shocked with how quickly he will do anything to defend her. But Kat has had enough hockey boys; between her ex and a fling with another teammate, she needs to stay away from the hockey boys.

I laughed so hard at places in this book. The heroine and hero were constantly striking sparks off one another. I regretted that Kat had such a "bad reputation." The male characters could cat around and were "macho" because of it but since Kat was a female, she was labeled a slut.

Other places in this book made me so mad, I wanted to reach through the pages and smack some sense into some of the people in the book. Then I had moments that had me saying, "Aww." If you rate books on the number of feelings evoked, Ms. Myers would top all the charts.

This is the second book in the slap shot series and if you are not a fan of the sports romances then this may not be for you. I myself am not a big fan of sports romances especially since we don’t really have ice hockey where I live. I did enjoy this book quite a bit. Matt and Katilla have a past one that did not end well for Katilla as he left when she needed his support. He interferes in her love life now that James another player is on the scene. Will there be a happy ever after for them?

If you've read book one of this series they you know a little about Katella. Katella and her sister are owners of the Newport Beach Seagulls NHL team. In this book Katella is still getting over her ex breaking up with her and leaving the team. When Negan comes to the team Katella and him clash but I loved the crazy banter and how they had intense chemistry that went hot and cold. This is the second book in the Slapshot series and it is an entertaining story about a couple who go from enemies to lovers with lots of fun in between.

This is book 2 in the Slapshot series and it features Katella Hanson and James Negan. These two are kind of strange. She’s got her hangups and insecurities as she recovers from her grandfather’s murder and the break-up of a 2 year relationship. He’s got such a calm, even keeled way of looking at things but the one thing he REALLY wants is Katella and the depth of that scares him. This is a sizzling hot story line! There’s a lot of character growth in this book. I can’t wait to read the next one.

This story had a lot going on. It's Katella's story and her relationship with three guys when she finally decides to settle with Negan, who is the new player on the team. There's a lot of testosterone going on here and it was entertaining. Some of the flow of the story was bland though and I found myself thinking it was just taking too long. At the end, Katella gets the guy she wants.

A brilliant addition to the series, just could not put it down.

Read it all in one seating as Kat and Negan’s chemistry and word play just got my attention

I liked Negan’s humility despite his reputation of always trying to get a raise out of Katella. Getting to know more about him and that he was not a perfectionist in all he did made him human to me and I just loved that about him.

Katella is trying to deal with the aftermath of her grandfather's death, a hockey team and her a*** of an ex who ask to be treaded to another team. James or Negen is traded after divorcing his ex-wife and has a thing for Katella even if he shows it in a preschool way.
It was a good read with flaw characters and interesting situations.

This is Kat and Negan's story, and I loved it! They have immediate chemistry, although she thinks it's hate until they touch, then they can't stop touching. Funny aside - I loved that they both got a black eye from the other's ex. One of the things I like best about this series is that the characters are consistent from book to book, and they're all there for each other.

so so

This story had great potential but sadly it left me disappointed. Story was muddled by two hockey players and the sister of the teams owner. One was an ex who came back to the team after dumping her and the other was a recently divorced player who had joined the team. Didn’t understand the waste of time spent on the ex and it spoilt the story. Negan I liked and kat took time to warm up to, a so so story. Hoping the next book picks up.

Outside of Seraphina, Katella's sister constantly whining about not going after the goalie, this was a good read. Katella finds herself surprisingly attracted to James, an older hockey player on their team. I enjoyed this steamy hockey romance and look forward to the next book!

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

She is in a mess since her grandfather was murdered. Her boyfriend left her and wanted to be moved to another team. She hooks up with another but that breaks down as well. She has had enough of hockey players but then she meets another one. Then her ex comes back trying to get her to give him another chance. See what she will end up doing

Love...

This book was pretty good! Katella us one of the two granddaughters of the murdered owner of the Gulls. She is the one no one takes seriously or even really notices. Negan is one the new players on the Gulls and he takes notice if her. He picks on her, which makes her stand up and give herself a back bone. The two together find some unforgettable moments!

Katella and James definitely deserve their story and this is such a whopper of one. Katella has waited a long time for her happy ending and this is such a sweet story of becoming comfortable with who you are and being happy with the one you are with. Nice addition to this series.

Slapshot!

Kat has a complicated history with hockey players and now Negan is in the picture.
Talk about rubbing each other the wrong way!
But that chemistry can work in their favor when they learn to stroke in the right direction! Lots of heat, some sass, humor and meddlers make this a fun read!

We have Katella's story and when I read the first book I was interested I was a little let down with her. Katella let Matt treat her like crap and then would get all over Negan if he said something. Negan was right she needed to stand up for herself, however these two acted like kids instead of the adults that they were. Was glad that Matt finally apologized for his actions..On the the next one.

I haven't read the first book in the series, but it wasn't needed to love this story, James and Katella butt heads at the beginning, but that is just their chemistry. James doesn't know how to handle this relationship but wants it bad enough to go after her. I will read the first and continue reading this series as long as the author continues. After Dean Morgan, I've decided that James Negan is my second favourite hockey player from this series. He just gets on Katella's nerves so much; it's hilarious. He really is a middle-school child in the body of a 30/31-yr old divorced man. I laughed so much every time he teased Kat. It was adorable.
