Exhaustive coverage of pursuing a career as an Indie writer.

SK Quinn means every word she says. And I am yet to see someone understand the highs and lows of pursuing a literary career (in that, an indie literary career) like she does. Well structured from having a mission statement as a writer to marketing multiple books. There were parts where I disagreed with her, especially about Social media. But then everyone's journey is different! If you are a writer embarking on the Indie Journey, this i

If you can only read one self-publishing guide, this should be the one. I am one of those people who loves to write but has a nervous breakdown at the thought of everything involved in self-publishing. As a result, I've read my fair share of how-to books and this one resonates the most. S.K. Quinn writes from experience and she does so in a way that is both engaging and also easy to follow. Boot Camp is broken down into logical steps and provides both practical anecdotes as well as much needed e ...more

The 10 Step Self-Publishing BOOT CAMP book had a lot of helpful tips for pushing forward with a self-publishing career. Granted, since I've just finished the book, I can't say how many of the practices have been helpful for me, but there are several I want to try. I appreciated how in-depth S.K. Quinn went regarding her methods, and that she had information to back up her suggestions (as well as the caveat that, of course, the market is constantly changing and what works at the moment might not ...more

Highly recommend if you have any interest in becoming an author. Chockful of information and step by step plan. I'm telling everyone who wants to write about this book!!

I read this after reading an incredibly detailed book on the subject. This one felt more like a "You can do it!" sort of book, and I tend to not appreciate the encouraging books. I wanted a more up-to-date version of the detailed book - and instead, this book effectively said, "All that stuff you just read? Throw it out the window!"
There were a number of places in the book when I wished the author had camped on a subject a little longer, or explained it in a way that communicated to me better

An excellent field guide for the new author seeking to plunge into the daunting jungles of self-publishing. The author has put together a tidy and easy to read guide that covers quite the gamut of things an aspiring author should know, if they're thinking about publishing a book themselves. I wish I had access to a book like this when I first set out to write and publish. I would've avoided many pitfalls and misconceptions. And even though I had already taken the step to self-publish, I still fo ...more

I read this book based on a recommendation from one of the Facebook groups I belong to, and before you ask- no I don't remember which one. I've read a few other how-to books, but this one has been one of the best so far. Her casual style made me comfortable and I felt like we were talking over drinks. She was never condescending and I did not feel like she was bragging. I like that she talked about her personal stories, but she also included success stories from other people. I learned a ton in ...more

An inspiration for indie writers

I have been pursuing traditional publishing for years. My debut YA novel landed me a literary agent but after being on submission to publishers off and on for two years, it never sold. I decided to self-publish it because it's the book of my heart and I just want it to be out there for people to read. This book inspired me and made me excited to begin my journey as an indie writer. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is considering self-publishing.

This book is AMAZING! I have been debating whether to go the indie publishing route or to keep trying the traditional publishing route for quite some time. This book finally gave me the courage and info I needed to take the right step for me. Thank you S. K. Quinn for writing this. Your selfless service to the writing community is so very much appreciated! I just wish all my writer friends still doubting themselves because of the broken traditional publishing model would read this.

I highly recommend this book for the beginning author since it walks you through many of the current best practices to turn your manuscript into a book-for-sale. There's not as much there for the intermediate author, but I still found a few useful tips (mostly book recommendations for further reading).

Great Book on Self-Publishing

A tremendous amount of information for new writers in one book. It's a shame that it will be unpublished.

The information is well laid out and easy to understand and confirms what every author eventually learns: we must keep writing.

Mandatory reading for new authors

Ideal for the indie author or the trade pub in training. Improved over the previous version with an easy to follow 10 step approach and updates on the various publishing markets and tools

A quick read and good read to add to my bookshelf about writing craft and the business. The writing is easy to read and informative. She talks about her method and the high-lows of self-publishing and getting your work out there. I will definitely read more by this author.

SK Quinn is also Susan Kaye Quinn and she has another pseudonym for her romance novels. [mission: find out what it is] She is also an actual rocket scientist with a PhD in engineering.
She has written nearly 30 novels and her books often don’t fit in a standard genre box. Hard sci-fi. Steampunk Indian princess stories. Or as she calls them, her geeky tech stories.
Her original aim was to make enough to put her sons through college.
Any income from her pen-name goes to a ‘special project’.

10 steps to launching a self-published book, and the smaller steps that make up those 10 big ones.

I read this from cover to cover, in small increments over a long period of time to give myself a strong foundation to build on. this is definitely going to be a book I pick up and re-read specific sections. There is a wealth of knowledge in its pages.
