Easter: Fact or Fiction: 20 Reasons to Believe Jesus Rose From The Dead.

Rate this book
Did Jesus REALLY and TRULY rise from the dead? Does Easter actually celebrate a historical event involving Jesus defeating death, or is that just a myth for religious folks to comfort themselves with? Fact or Fiction is far from your typical apologetics book! If you are a believer, this book will equip you to talk about faith in a way that is convincing, interesting, humorous and attractive. If you are a skeptic, then this book will challenge and push you in a friendly way, kind of like your friend at the pub or coffee shop would. You've probably never read a book about the resurrection that is quite like this - feel free to confirm that by taking a quick glance at the table of contents!

Fact or Fiction is designed to get you to ask questions so that you will consider the claims of Jesus. It is written for two primary audiences, the curious skeptic, and the curious Christian. If you are a believer, this book will point you to the glorious biblical truth of the resurrection, and the numerous evidences and reasons to believe that it actually happened. Hopefully, that will not only strengthen your faith, but will enable you to more boldly and biblically share that faith with others.

If you are a curious skeptic, then know that I’ve written much of this book with you in mind. I won’t try to browbeat you into Christianity, nor ridicule you for not having faith. Instead, my hope is that this book will be gently eye-opening, and will open the door for you to consider the claims of Jesus. Though there is no way for anybody on earth to scientifically, beyond a shadow of a doubt, prove (or disprove) that Jesus rose from the dead; the historic fact of the matter is that something significant happened on Passover weekend, A.D. 33. That weekend changed the course of world history – no reasonable historian, scientist, or sociologist would disagree with that statement. The million-dollar question What precisely happened during the weekend after Jesus was crucified? Was there a hoax perpetuated that has literally led billions of people astray, or did the most magnificent event imaginable take place? This book seeks to answer the question of whether Easter was a literal fact, or fiction.

Many of these “reasons to believe” are not precisely proofs, but thought experiments, allusions, metaphors, and even parables. Some of them are subtle, others are quite forceful. Some make significant truth claims that must be confronted, and others simply raise important questions to be grappled with. Some are fairly whimsical, some are emotional, and some are very intellectually focused. These reasons to believe are not meant to scientifically prove that Jesus rose from the dead, but to give reasonable evidence for that belief. Evidence that must be grappled with, and is not easily dismissed as superstitious or silly

Easter: Fact or Fiction - 20 Reasons to Believe Jesus Rose from the Dead is a book that offers 20 logical and historical reasons to believe that the resurrection actually happened in history. While there is no way to actually prove that Jesus bodily rose from the dead, and that His disciples actually saw Him - just as there is no way to actually prove any ancient historical event - this book makes strong arguments as to why belief in the resurrection is reasonable and the best conclusion based on the evidence.

It is a fun and challenging read, highly recommended for anybody considering the claims of Jesus whether as a believer or as a doubter. If you are a doubter, I think it would be worth your time to check this book out and see if your doubts are confirmed or dashed.

An interesting read I completed in a day. The book hits tough questions head-on with lots of evidence and quotations from a large variety of sources. The author uses fun stories that also illustrate the point of each chapter. While some of the chapters (later chapters esp) are almost solely stories, they are still relevant and illustrate the main point well. I'm not sure how you could read this and not be left with a) a strengthening of your belief on the Resurrection and deity of Christ (and a stronger ability to defend that belief) or b) some doubt in your disbelief of the Resurrection... Thanks for a well researched and well written book!

Well written and focused on major challenges to Christianity. Chase A Thompson draws on sources both within scriptures, and outside it. Sources from scholars of the faith to those opposed to it, to address challenges to often misunderstood assumptions. It's not just for Easter, and worth the read no matter where you are in your faith.

Words to Ponder

I must say I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to follow. I love the layout and flow of the writing. The passages made me stop to think and form my own opinions. Even after finishing this book I am contemplating reading it again.
