AT The Edge: 4.5 Almost Perfect Stars!

This was almost perfect. An exciting storyline, hunky Seal Hero and an admirable heroine. Emma is in danger and Ryan is determined to protect her, but he wants to protect her too much. The attraction is instant and very hot, but for some reason Ryan doesn't want to give in to it. I'm not really sure why he's trying to stay hands off with her. If he pursued her instead of the other way around, this would have been a solid five star for me. Despite that, I love the writing. This does end on a cliffhanger.

Edge of Surrender: 4.5 Almost Perfect Stars!

Edge of Surrender picked up right where the first book left off. In the first book, it was almost perfect except for Ryan's hesitation at getting physical with Emma. You know he's attracted to her but he kept trying to put her off and I wasn't sure why. In this 2nd book, Ryan realizes he can't keep her at a distance and allows himself to have her all the while protecting her from an unknown enemy. Once again, I say this was almost perfect. What kept it from a solid 5 Stars was the rushed ending. It felt a little incomplete because of it, but I'm hoping it's because there is a third book and we'll see these two again. Also, we got Jake and Alexa's romance as a very, very brief side note. A possible book coming our way for these two?

Perfectly entertaining!

I love Laura Griffin's books and I knew I had to read The Mission Begins before the next book in the series, Cover of Night was released.

Both novellas, At the Edge and Edge of Surrender, are short but they do pack a punch. They are full of action, suspense, romance, and camaraderie. I have no idea how Laura Griffin is capable of the strong character development in such a short book but she's able to accomplish it! Even better, she's able to make the secondary characters special too.

The main couple in both short stories is Emma Wright and Ryan Owens.

Emma is the daughter of a US Congressman. She has been working as the personal assistant for a US Ambassador's wife for a while. Their latest good deed trip has taken them to the Philippines. When the book begins they are leaving the Philippines when the plane crashes making Emma the sole survivor.

Ryan is the leader of the Alpha Crew unit, a super elite team of Navy Seals. His team is in charge of the search and rescue mission of the plane crash's survivors. Alpha Crew believes hostiles are close by. The sooner they can extract Emma the better.

During this highly stressful situation, Emma and Ryan realize they are attracted to each other but one mistake can be lethal. Distractions are not needed. Ryan tries to keep his distance but nothing else matters when he realizes Emma's life is still in danger when they are both back in the USA.

I loved both novellas. They were so much fun to read. Easily devourable in just a few hours. Ryan and Emma had tons of chemistry. I can understand how things progressed so much faster in a deadly situation like these characters found themselves in. Everything moves faster in this scenario. I like the other members of the team too and I can't wait to read their stories.

Cover of Night is next for me.

Cliffhanger: No

4.5 Fangs

This volume contains the first two books of the Alpha Crew Series. I already read and really enjoyed them separately. It was good to get them in one volume and read them again back to back.

At the Edge is the first book in this volume. When Emma Wright's plane goes down in the jungle, she is rescued by a SEAL team commanded by Ryan Owen. The ordeal isn't over for her though, as she has an enemy who wants her dead. Ryan is determined to protect her, and is torn between his duty and his attraction to her.

I really liked both of these main characters and the steam between them. Watching their relationship develop was fun, and I enjoyed the suspense aspect of the storyline. I thought the balance of romance and suspense was good.

The Second story in the volume is Edge of Surrender. I loved getting more of Ryan and Emma in this one! I really like both characters, and this one, like the first, was fast paced and kept my attention. I enjoyed the continuation of their story, and thought this was a really good follow up to the first book of the series!

I am really enjoying the Alpha Crew Series and find the books engaging and great to read! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I will just lay this out there so there is no misunderstanding. I love Laura Griffin's books. I have never read one that has been less than a 4 star rating and she is a consistent 5 star for me.

AT THE EDGE
Sexy, Sweaty SEAL. What more do you need to know? Well, I'll tell you just a little more. Emma is the assistant to the wife of the United States Ambassador to the Philippines. Their plane goes down on a remote island and Emma is able to get out and try to communicate their SOS. A super secret SEAL team, Alpha Crew, is dispatched to the rescue. Ryan finds Emma and they have an instant attraction, which Ryan is fighting like crazy - he loses.

It seems that something other than a malfunction brought the plane down. Who and why, are the questions because now someone in after Emma in the United States.

EDGE OF SURRENDER
It seems that something other than a malfunction brought the plane Emma was on down. Who and why, are the questions because now. Someone in after Emma now that she is back in the United States and asking questions no one wants to answer. On her way to a meeting with the FBI Emma is kidnapped. Ryan is beside himself and frantic to track her down. Emma manages to get free and she and Ryan now are tracking down the who and why this all happened.

This book literally starts in the middle of the story and just doesn't have enough punch. Both books, taken together just aren't as good as Laura Griffin's other work. Sad for me to admit, but plot and character development are lacking. 3 1/2 Stars.

It was so convenient having both parts of Ryan's and Emma's story together in one book. Ryan's part of an elite Seal team, they seem to have an even closer relationship then normal. They are truly there for each other no questions asked anytime. Luckily for Emma, because without Ryan and his team her life would have been a lot shorter.

I have read a couple of this author’s Tracers series books and loved them, so I thought I’d try this book. IMO, not the same caliber of books.

Emma Wright’s plane goes down in the jungle of one of the Philippine Islands. Alpha Crew is sent in to retrieve the passengers.

Emma’s character is a mixture of brash and immature. She’s headstrong and isn’t afraid to use her connections to open doors to find answers to her questions to clear a friend’s name. Yet, she acts completely immature and puts herself at risk when Ryan does something she asked him not to do.

Ryan is team leader for Alpha Crew and worked very hard to get there. He is drawn to Emma from the moment he sets eyes on her file photo.

When trouble follows Emma home because she refuses to let a friend take the fall for the plane crash, Ryan rushes to protect her.

Didn’t really feel the connection between these two. Sex feels like it’s used as a filler. There isn’t much background given on either main character. There is a brief introduction to the other members of Alpha Crew. The story ends with an HFN. The series is just getting started. I hope that means we continue to see these characters develop because there are so many questions still about these two.

This is books 1 and 2 together that make up the whole book of Emma and Ryan’s story. I am not a fan of cliffhangers, especially when each book is not a full book size. The first book is 122 pages and the second one is 114 pages for a total of 236. These two actually stop at 92% and we get an intro to the next partial book in the series that takes you to the advertised 272 pages. It’s beyond disappointing when an author does this.

This is a new full length book combining two previously published novellas. At the Edge and Edge of Surrender kick off a new series about a team of Alpha SEAL's and the women who win their hearts. This book is the story of Emma Wright and Ryan Owens. When Emma's plane goes down in a jungle in the Philippines, Ryan is part of the team that goes in for the rescue mission. Emma is the soke survivor and Ryan is the one who finds her and gets her out of that jungle alive. A few months later, back in the states it seems that a cover up about what really happened to the plane is in play and Emma is trying to get to the bottom of the situation and find out why. She seeks out Ryan trying to get the truth out there not realizing the danger she is putting herself in doing this. It doesn't take long for danger to find her then she once again finds herself being saved by Ryan. They may have been able to ignore the attraction they felt before but now they are spending a lot of time together and ignoring it is no longer an option!

This is a fantastic start to what should be an amazing series. It's fast paced, high action, and twists and turns in the story that keep you reading page after page. It has a great group of characters and should give us some amazing stories. I highly recommend this one!

At the Edge is the start of the Alpha Crew series and brings us Emma Wright and the leader of the Alpha Crew Lt. Ryan Owen. When the plane Emma is on crashes, Ryan and he team are sent in to rescue any survivors. This story continues in Edge of Surrender where it is discovered the crash wasn’t an accident. Ryan will do anything to keep Emma protected, but when he causes her to question his trust she leaves. Now alone and in danger will Ryan and his crew get to her in time and will she forgive him and let him help to find the truth and keep her safe. I look forward to reading more

I was given an Advance Readers Copy for my honest opinion.

I am always skeptical when reading an author for the first time, Laura Griffin was a pleasant surprise. The Mission Begins is the first 2 books of the Alpha Crew Series).

Emma is my kind of main character, she is reliant, resourceful and independent. She is thrown into situations, crashing plane/kidnapping, getting rescued by a hot SEAL, Ryan.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is a must read for you. I have added the next book in the Alpha Crew Series to my must read list.

These two books read as if they were the first two chapters in a longer book .
As standalones they seem to be missing something .
The Author usually writes terrific , fast paced thrillers with a romantic theme that I usually enjoy .....with excellent characters , that you can relate to and with a good plot .
The sex scenes in theses two books seemed to be there as fillers - not to connect you to the characters and their emotions .
Book 1
Emma Wright's plane is brought down in the jungle in the Phillipines ...........all the others aboard are killed .
A ultra -elite Seal team , Alpha Crew, led by Ryan Owen are sent in to rescue any survivors .
They find that not all were killed in the crash , the pilot had been shot in the head ...... Emma is missing .
The race to find and rescue her before the killers do is on .
Ever resourceful Emma manages to remain hidden until Ryan discovers her and with his crew manages her extraction back to the USA ........the attraction between them is instantaneous but can go nowhere .
After being de-briefed Emma discovers that the Pilot is being held to blame for the crash , that it was an accident .She resolves to clear his name - she knows that it was not an accident and not his fault .
BUT there are those who do not want the truth to come out and are determined that Emma cease her actions whatever the cost, even her life .
Ryan torn between his duty and his desire for Emma must find a way to keep her safe from her invisible enemy , whilst she seeks the answers .

Book 2

After a night of passion Emma takes off leaving Ryan high and dry .......He is not the only one looking for her and must find her before the enemy on her trail does first .
Emma is still fighting for justice , seeking the truth - which might be closer to home than she thought .
She realises that she needs help from Ryan and together the seek to find truth of the crash......their attraction grows evermore powerful . Can they hope to find a future together and to survive the forces after them ?

These books , as I said above, read as chapters in a longer novel - whilst I felt the characters were a little flat I feel that the coming books about the rest of the Alpha Crew will provide a light enjoyable read if the Author gives the them more depth .

I was given an arc of this book by the Publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review .

This book release contains the first two books of the Alpha Crew series. Alpha Crew is a special task force team that few people know about in the USA government, FBI, etc, and which is assigned missions that noone is supposed to know and some of which are too dangerous and special to be executed by ordinary military teams.

AT THE EDGE
In this first book is where everything gets started and Laura Griffin introduces the main characters of the series and the series of events that grouped together the protagonists. Emma Wright, daughter of a congressman, is working in Philippines as assistant to the US ambassador’s wife Renee Conner. She is in a flight when their airplane crashes on an island in the middle of the jungle and all her survival instincts kick in. Ryan Owen is the leader of Alpha Crew team and he and his team are assigned the mission to land to the island, search for any survivor and bring them back in alive. However, when Emma and Ryan will meet their chemistry will not go by unnoticed by neither one. Ryan and his men manage to save and bring her home, but after 5 weeks when Emma will go to this home town looking of him, an attempt to kill her will put them on a run. And though they have found a temporary shelter, after a night of sex, she will take off on her own and she will be kidnapped sending Ryan to madness.

EDGE OF SURRENDER
The second book picks up from Emma’s kidnap and Ryan’s efforts to find her and save her. However saving her is just temporary. They are on the run with noone to trust not even FBI and though all hell breaks their romance and love blossom. Jake Heath is one of Ryan’s men and he tries to help him save Emma. He will meet the FBI agent Alexa Mays in an attempt to clear things up, as Emma was about to meet Alexa just before she was kidnapped. Alexa is an amazingly beautiful women the type of supermodel and Jake really likes her. Though they have found themselves in a tough situation and with conflicting interests, there is chemistry between them which will have to ignore in order to work together and help save Emma.

Both books are fast-paced with constant change of scenes. A real action story with suspense and twists and turns. I really loved the world and the plot, I just could not put down the book. I’m looking forward for the next book.

4 Stars! Alpha Crew: The Mission Begins is a compilation of Laura Griffin's Alpha Crew Series books #1 & #2.

Meet the Heroine & Hero:

Emma is the assistant to a US Ambassador's wife. They are currently serving in the Philippines on goodwill missions bringing vaccinations & good sanitation practices to the people. Her father is a US Congressman. She's pretty, resourceful & has plenty of spunk.

Ryan is a Navy Seal & is the leader of a top secret, super elite team within the Seals. He is gorgeous, strong & sweet.

The Story:

On the way to their most recent goodwill mission, Emma's plane goes down over the Philippine jungle & she is the lone survivor. She has to figure out in a hurry how to survive on her own while also trying to signal for help. Ryan's ultra elite Seal team is tapped to go into the jungle & rescue any survivors of the crash. They are able to locate Emma in short order & of course there is instant attraction between Ryan & Emma.

Once back stateside they part ways since the mission is over. But after a few weeks, Emma starts to have questions about the findings in the crash investigations, because things aren't adding up. She's asking questions all over the place & is now being followed & her life threatened. Seems there might be someone who doesn't want the truth to come out. Enter in Ryan again once he is made aware of her situation. He hasn't been able to stop thinking about her & wants to keep her safe.

Ryan & Emma now have to fight an invisible enemy to figure out what is going on & to keep themselves alive, all while not knowing who in the government they can trust.

The Verdict:

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun & fast paced read. It had a believable mystery that kept me interested the whole way through with a few hot, sexy times thrown in. This is a great weekend or road trip read! I'm glad that this particular edition had both of Emma & Ryan's books in one since they were on the shorter side individually. This was my first Laura Griffin book & I will definitely read more from this author.

Wow! This is Laura Griffin in a whole new way. I have read and loved all of her Tracers series, but this was nothing at all like that. It was a lot sexier and action packed. I adore military style suspense, but I wasn't sure how Laura Griffin's style would translate into this genre. I shouldn't have worried. She just completely invented a new style for herself, and it worked brilliantly.

The chemistry was off the charts, and both Emma and Ryan were likable characters. They meet under extreme circumstances after Emma's plane crashes. Ryan is part of the team sent to find survivors. He finds Emma, and things only get more interesting from there. Emma knows something was off about the plane crash, and she is determined to find out what. Ryan knows more than he is letting on, and he just wants to protect Emma. Unfortunately for him, she is not the type to be babysat or coddled. Ryan finds that out the hard way.

In part two of this story, Emma and Ryan discover the conspiracy and secrets go much deeper than either had imagined. Emma has disappeared, and Ryan and Jake are frantically working to discover what happened, and Ryan determines he will stop at nothing to get her back. With help from Jake and an FBI agent, Ryan finds Emma just in time. He determines that Emma needs to disappear again...with him. The two go on the run working behind the scenes to determine who orchestrated the plane crash and who wants to make sure Emma is no longer a survivor.

I really was sucked into both part one and two of this series. The characters were likable and believable; the chemistry was sparking, and and the suspense didn't let up. It was everything I love about the military style suspense genre and everything I love about the writing of Laura Griffin all rolled into one. How could you go wrong with that? The only thing missing is the rest of the story behind what's going on between Jake and his FBI agent. I sure hope those two are getting their own story soon.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for review.

Emma is a personal secreatary to ambassador’s wife and she was in a mission to one of the islands in Philippine and on her way back to the main land. Her plane crashes and she is only survivor from the crash. By the time she realized she survived the crash, she need to get help. So she decided to find the satellite phone and go higher ground for reception.
Ryan and his team in Alpha Crew is on a mission to rescue any survivor from the plane crash. When his crew found the wreckage of the plane, he saw there was a survivor among the passengers and he needed to find her quick.
Emma was finally rescued by Ryan but nothing was easy. With her injured ankle she couldn’t walk well and she didn’t want to left alone while they went to scout for landing for their extraction. So Ryan decides to stay behind with her. Emma was thankful Ryan stayed behind with her but they are not safe yet. When his team was back, extraction by the air wasn’t available and militant group is approaching fast..
Ryan lifts Emma on his shoulder and they are on their way to the shore for another way out.. She couldn’t how Ryan smoothly ran down the mountain to another location. He was there with her until she was rescued..
Emma wanted to dig deeper... She has been back in the states and she has been poking around the plane crash and it is creating more problems. She wanted to see Ryan again and ask. But Ryan can’t give any clear answer to Emma.
Emma was in danger again. She is being followed and almost got into an accident. Ryan was there to rescue her again and he brought her to safe house. When they were alone, they gave into their passion.
Ryan promised to keep her safe at any cost except she was kidnapped. Now he had to get his crew to rescue her again.

Story moved fast with lots of suspense and I did like Emma and Ryan. It doesn’t end with typical HEA but it had it’s own HEA. I would’ve liked to know more of Emma and Ryan.. Hopefully in the next book since other crew member have their stories, I hope they will be featured as well.

I have been trying to find the words to help me explain the only sentence I can give this book.
It is what it is.
The story has lots of action readers come to expect from military style romantic suspense stories as well as sex. What I found lacking in this story was the character development. Over half way though the story and I still didn't understand why Ryan and Emma were together. In fact at one point she asked the same question. I get why he was helping her it what anyone in the military does they help when help is needed. They had sex and more sex as the bad guys were chasing Emma down.
As a reader the sex was nothing more than filler when instead Laura Griffin could have been building the characters helping readers connect with Ryans team mates. I struggled to connect with Emma she was suppose to be a strong female character instead she made stupid decisions.
As a reader I want to connect with the characters instead I found them flat and the story is another one of the many hot alpha male story built around sex and action. When everything dies down I am pretty sure theses two characters will end up leaving each other. Even though the author leaves ready with a happy ending.
This story is what is. Nothing special. Nothing memorable and a quick sexy beach read for those who do not need substance.
Edge of Surrender lacks story and writing I have enjoyed by Laura Griffin in the past.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the advance copy.

4 - 4 1/2 stars!

The Mission Begins is a compilation of At The Edge and Edge of Surrender, books #1 & 2 of the exciting new Alpha Crew series. The novellas, previously released separately, are both parts of Ryan and Emma's story. With an interesting storyline, complex characters you can't help but love, secrets, lies, betrayal, intense situations, danger, and intriguing twists, it'll pull you in right from the start, and keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. A fantastic beginning to this awesome new series!

I really enjoyed both of these novellas. There was lots of suspense, action, a bit of mystery, but since Emma figures out pretty quickly most of what's going on, there wasn't a lot. Ryan and Emma are great together, definite chemistry between them, and after working out their trust issues and some other things, they made a fantastic couple.

There was a lot of potential for these stories, and had they been longer, or both been novel length, I think it would have improved them overall. There was some character development, but it would've been nice to have more background for the main characters. The end of the second book was kind of abrupt with what felt like a HFN type ending. The first ends with a cliffhanger, but it instantly started with the next book so it wasn't a problem. Overall, issues aside, these were great stories, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I strongly recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Excellent short and action packed, start to an exciting series. From the 1st chapter I was captivated and intrigued. On the edge of my seat, reading At the Edge, as the scenes just flew by. Lol. Emma is a lone survivor as the plane she was on, crashes in jungles of the Philippines. Lt. Ryan Owen and 3 other members of the Alpha Crew are tasked on bringing back any survivors. Ryan and Emma have intense chemistry and even after Emma is rescued and returned safely home, she can't stop thinking about Ryan and what happened with the plane crash. Her continued investigation has led to someone trying to kill her and Ruan trying to protect her. This book does end in a cliffy and I am on to reading Edge of Surrender!!!!! Loving it so far!

In the 2nd book of this exciting series, Edge of Surrender, we have the conclusion to Emma & Ryan's story. This picks up after Emma has been kidnapped and Ryan does not know who took her. Another short quick read, packed with action and hot sex. The bad guys are caught, all nice and fast. Emma and Ryan admit their love for each other. The story is well written, it just seems really abrupt at the end, especially since Ryan is leaving on another mission and he and Emma are going to make the long distance relationship work between them. Not a bad read but it could have been fleshed out more.Together I give the books 4.5 stars!!!!

First Book in a New Series by Laura Griffin: So much action. Loved every single second.

Emma Wright is left to fend for herself after something terrible goes wrong with the plane she's on. A highly elite SEAL team come to her rescue. Lt. Ryan Owen and his team are sent to look for the plane which has gone down. It is carrying government people. That's they were called in.
The thing is Emma knows this take down of the plane was no accident. Something gets a little fishy when she starts to ask questions about it.

Will Ryan and Emma work together and get the answers she's looking for? And will it put her at risk? See what happens..

Part 2:

The ride continues but what happens next is not good.

Someone is after Emma.. The action intensifies. Ryan's main goal is to protect Emma. Does protecting her with his body count? Emma can't trust anyone, and at one point thought the FBI was trustworthy which was a mistake. So she's left with a decision to make. Which will she choose?

You have to buy the book to find out.
Loved it.

Love all Laura Griffins books.

This brings the 2 books together (Alpha Crew 1 and 2) and so hang on, they are action packed!

At The Edge
Crazy good and twisty like a roller coaster ride! This book starts with a bang right from the prologue and then chapter one and then fighting through the rain forest and running for their lives in San Diego.

Edge of Surrender
This book picks up right where part 1 stops and thank goodness for that! I was on the edge of my seat and it was not a comfortable place to be. The twists and turns keep you guessing about what is going on and who is involved and what is going to happen. The chemistry between Ryan and Emma is explosive and makes you cheer for them to find that happy ending. I really recommend this series and hope it continues.

I had read both books previously for review and was thrilled to receive this combined ARC and get the chance to read them again. It was just as thrilling the second time through and I read this in a quick afternoon when I should have been sleeping since I had to work that night.

Another fab Military Romance author to join my collection!

At the Edge - Emma and Ryan don't meet under the best of circumstances. Emma is an aide to a diplomats wife and when the plane they were travelling in crashes, she is the sole survivor. When an elite SEAL team is dropped in to find survivors, she meets the handsome and super savvy Ryan.

They sure a passionate interlude but she decides that it was just adrenaline and danger and that Ryan has a girl in every port. But she has never tangled with a SEAL before! The story continues in...Edge of Surrender

Ryan is still fighting his attraction to Emma. She is left reeling by the conflicting signals she gets from him. But when she is once again in danger Ryan (and Jake!) swoop in to save her once more.

I did feel that the ending was a wee bit rushed and I'd have liked it rounded off into a HEA rather than the HFN it had. It has set the lovely Jake and Alexa up neatly but I have a feeling that there is going to be a wait for these two, they are definitely a long slow simmer!!!

Emma is the sole survivor of a plane crash in the Philippine jungle. She thinks she will die there until Ryan Owens and elite Navy Seal and his crew comes to her rescue. Sparks fly, but was it the dangerous situation they found themselves in making their head spin, or was it more?

Action packed drama mixed with some really intense passion make this a highly enjoyable read. Emma was a great female lead, she is strong and capable and can think on her feet. Of course Ryan everything you want in a hunky Navy Seal. I usually don't like the insta-love trope, but it worked in this story. But, I have to say it was the action and all the dangerous situations Emma and Ryan found themselves in that really got my blood pumping. The romance was just a bonus. The supporting cast of characters really round the story out and added depth to the story.

The story starts with a bang: plane crash, unexpected twist, good character set-up. Then it leads into what I thought was going to be a typical "Laura Griffin-tense-well-written-thriller".

However, this is "Laura-Griffin-lite". There are lots of chases and intimate scenes, but little actual investigation and crime-solving. Emma, the protagonist, has the whole thing figured out so there is really no crime-solving. The ending comes about abruptly and through no crime-solving on Emma's part. Instead, I had the feeling Ms Griffin reached the allotted number of written pages so she wrapped it up as fast as possible.

This version features two novellas joined together in one book. Good thing or the rating would have gone down another star. I don't go for those money-grabbing cliffhangers that keep continuing would should have been one novel.

Even though Emma’s father is a Congressman, she’s been very independent and has been as a PA for a US Ambassador’s wife. When their plane goes down in the jungle, Emma finds herself the sole survivor. When the rescue team Alpha Crew leader Ryan sees a picture of Emma, he’s determined to not leave the jungle without her. Something about her calls to him.
I didn’t expect that I’d like these two novellas, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read through them quite quickly. These novellas actually gave a full story that I enjoyed. We got to learn way more to Emma that met the eyes and I liked unravelling it all as Ryan did. I look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend.

"Alpha Crew:The Mission Begins" blurb gives you all you need to know to read Ryan and Emma's story. A romantic suspense, the action starts from the beginning in 'At the Edge' and doesn't stop until the last page of 'Edge of Surrender'. Rereading them in one book was better than when I read them last year waiting for the second novella. The reader gets Ryan and Emma's full story with romance and suspense. I look forward to more of the same in part 3 of the series as it is Ethan's story, another of the Seal team. Well done to whomever put parts 1 and 2 together and giving readers what we want in Ryan and Emma's complete story and their HEA. I would like to thank NetGalley and Pocket Star for gifting me "Alpha Crew:The Mission Begins". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.75 Stars!

Previously published as two separate novellas this book brings the two together in one volume and you get a much fuller story.
In AT THE EDGE, Emma is the lone survivor of a plane crash in the Philippines and Ryan is the leader of the Alpha Crew of SEALs sent to find and rescue her. He hadn’t counted on his attraction to the strong young woman.
In EDGE OF SURRENDER Ryan and Emma are stateside but Emma’s investigation into the crash is raising the ire of some nasty guys and Ryan ends up rescuing her again. Maybe karma is telling them they need to be together.
These two stories read like an action/adventure movie. Make sure you are well rested because you won’t want to put it down.

Griffin does a good job of building intrigue in the suspense side and intensity in the romance side. I'm glad they released this book with #1 and 2 because both are required to get the full story. Emma is the assistant to an ambassador's wife and when their plane goes down, Ryan is on the team sent to recover survivors. But of course, that's only the beginning. After returning home, they both quickly realize that something bigger is going on and Emma unknowingly holds the key. But Ryan is determined to save her and to find and diffuse the threat against her. Typical heat and excitement that I've grown to expect from Laura Griffin. I look forward to more in this series.

Great book! Liked the author before this series and definitely enjoy her even more now. I will be reading book 3 next. This was a quick read filled with action, that made me sad when it finished only because it was so good. I loved that the characters were both strong and had great characteristics that didn't rely on the other one. The female lead did not just sit around waiting for someone to save her but did what she could to survive the situations she was in. She was smart and quickly figured out issues. I would recommend this as a read!

Wow, Laura Griffin has a series here. Thank goodness its the first two together. I recommend having them both because Book 1 leaves you hanging literally. There is danger, plane crashes, militant groups, sexy SEALs, betrayal, love, and of course hot sex scenes. It's two books that leave you desperate for another page. They also give you glimpses of the others in the Alpha crew that you know will eventually get their own stories. I personally cannot wait to get in deep with all of them.

A big Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery/Threshold books for the ARC for my honest review. This is the first one in this series that I have read. I liked it but thought the transition between Part 1 and Part 2 could have been a lot better..very abrupt. I rate this a 3.75. It was a crazy read...it has a plane crash, she gets kidnapped, shot at...and the list goes on. Wild ride. If you enjoy intrigue and special ops this is for you.
