This is the perfect Holiday book for February. It straddles Groundhog Day and Valentine's day and then ends with St Patricks Day and Easter, just a nod to them. I love this wonderful little story.
Groundhog Day wasn't much more than a curiosity until the movie "Groundhog Day' came out in the 90s. I watch that movie yearly and I think it's brilliant. So now, I really enjoy groundhog day, but there isn't much else out there besides the movie. I found this book sitting at the library, just waiting f ...more

The author manages to kill two holidays with one stone by skillfully combining Groundhog's Day AND Valentine's Day. What an admirable feat!
In this warm and fuzzy tale, Groundhog can come to Moose's Valentine's Party ONLY if his pals can keep him from seeing his shadow on February second. Many scientific calculations and STEAM-related activities later, it all culminates in a very cute, funny ending. And, the artwork by Christopher Denise is all kinds of adorable!

Pretty darn cute. Sure, a few parts might be a wee bit twee but I forgive it. I like how the friends are sensitive to groundhog actually being afraid of his shadow. "But shadows aren't scary" one of the friends say to the others. "They are to groundhog," says another. So, they try to show groundhog ways that shadows can be fun or interesting. The illustrations are really fun and I especially love the stylish groundhog and the diagrams the friends make when they are trying to explain ways to keep

On February 1st, Moose starts planning a grand Valentine's Day party with the help of Squirrel, Rabbit, and Porcupine. They're inviting everyone but worry that if Groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd, he'll return to his hole and will miss the Valentine's Day party. They bicker for so long about how they're going to keep Groundhog from seeing his shadow that they miss Groundhog coming out of his hole altogether.

Lovingly titled, Ground(hug) Day mashes up four long-time holidays, one of them being Valentine’s Day. Nestled in beautiful scenery by New York Times bestselling illustrator, Christopher Denise, our animal friends show tons of heart. Anne Marie Pace pins the ‘tale’ on Moose’s Valentine party, where everyone important must come to join him. But when you have a friend who retreats at the sight of his shadow right before Valentine’s Day, perfect attendance becomes impossible.

Various holidays get their time and attention but, aside from one kooky movie starring Bill Murray and any number of knockoffs, this day is kind of a joke (except in Philadelphia). So it’s interesting to see a book about a bunch of animals trying to get the shadow-fearing animal to attend Moose’s Valentine’s Day party.

This picture book by Anna Marie Pace depicts a story about a Moose that is throwing a Valentine’s day party with his friends except for their friends Groundhog because he is still hibernating. Groundhog expresses to his friends that he is scared of his shadows and so his friends all convince him that there is nothing to be scared of and that shadows are cool. Then, it became too cold for Groundhog again and so he fell back asleep until St. Patrick's Day but then Bunny went into his hole until th

Moose and friends are preparing for their upcoming Valentine's Day party, but it just won't be the same without everyone there. But how does one convince a groundhog to stay out of his den when he's seen his shadow? A most pushing dilemma, but one these friends are more than up for...if groundhog will cooperate that is.
A charming story filled with heart, humor, and good intent, and overflowing with cheerful illustrations that'll bring a smile to your face.

There were so many wonderful things about Pace's GROUNDHUG DAY--the celebration of multiple spring holidays, team work amongst friends and the acceptance of the quirky likes and dislikes of others. Parents and teachers will be able to take this book into so many wonderful directions, all while being fascinated by the spectacular illustrations. You're going to want to hug this sweet story.

This book was so cute. We loved it. The illustrations were very well done. The text was delivered on the pages to help the reader get more from the story. I loved the group’s need to keep the groundhog from missing the valentines party. I loved the ending with st Patrick’s day and Easter. I loved that it was just a group of nice friends - a simple story.
A delightful mix match of holidays, this picture book is similarly adorable! With lush and colorful illustrations, Groundhug Day is makes you feel as though you've gained some wonderful woodland friends. This is definitely a new favorite picture book of ours.

This fantastically illustrated fable is a kind story of friendship (through the lens of woodland creatures), with a clever holiday twist. The narrative was beautifully poised, but I was slightly disappointed that the premise wasn't carried to fruition by the end - I so badly wanted to see the efforts of their Valentine's Day soiree.

Cute idea, just a bit Disney-fied for me. I can see many teachers and librarians reading this around February 1-2, and students could try several different things with shadows. I would encourage students to find out the traditions behind Groundhog Day. I had to wonder why they didn't just decide to have the party in Groundhog's den; it would have met all of his criteria.

I thought I might really like this one, since I really like the cover and the artwork.

The animals are sad when they discover that groundhog won't be able to come to their Valentine's Day party if he sees his shadow. They bicker a lot on how to solve that problem. Filled with references about holidays February through April with a nice opportunity for inferencing at the end.

Very cute book! Love the illustrations and story. My 7 month old son enjoyed the visuals as well. The ending was so cute! While it was a good book I'm not sure I'd grab this for a home copy though, as this was a book we checked out at the library.

This is a fantastic picture book that incorporates Groundhogs Day as well as Valentine's day. Two holidays that tend to happen around the same time. This story follows a group of forest animals friends. Moose wants to throw a Valentine's Day party, but him and his friends are worried that Groundhog won't attend the party if he sees his shadow. They work together to find a solution to their problem. They soon discover that Groundhog needs to see all the fun things shadows can be used for and that

Groundhug Day by Anne Marie Pace and illustrated by Christopher Denise, reminds me of the 1985 classic children's book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie! This book is similar to Laura Numeroff's words and Felicia Bond's illustrations. Both books are strong five star reads! In Groundhug Day, Moose is planning a party for Valentine's Day. Squirrel, Bunny, and Porcupine are all there to help him. There is a slight problem, however, since tomorrow is Groundhog's Day. If Groundhog see's his shadow he won

The story of a groundhog who might see his shadow and make winter last longer. The other animals do everything they can think of to keep him from seeing his shadow, but he does see it. But then, the animals don't give up once he's seen it. They try to convince he groundhog to stay out anyway. However he's not buying it. He saw his shadow. He's going back to bed. I loved it.
