At number 2 Marylebone Road an old owl sits, day and night, all year round, no matter what – a complete contrast to the people and creatures who usually star in storybooks. Age 3+
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I really liked the drawing / visual style in this book and for a simple story there's a surprising amount to unpack. It has information in it about day / night and about the seasons. It also has all kinds of things that the very boring owl imagines from superheroes (both male and female) to princesses to dragons to robots. There's pretty much everything and anything that kids are likely to find appealing and I like that thought has been given to gender representation.
