Utilizez și acum citate din această carte în articolele, referatele, lucrările de licență și disertatie pe care le-am scris. Umorul irlandez este cumva aparte. Glumele sale sunt așa: „Irlandezii sunt genul de oameni care dacă ar ploua cu supă, ei ar ieși cu furculițele”. Și cinste traducătorului că a făcut o treabă excelentă inclusiv atunci când poanta constă într-un joc de cuvinte/sunete specific limbii engleze. Deschid la întâmplare cartea lui Des MacHale când nu am ce face și vreau să mă amuz :))

This is a great book for dipping in and out off. There are so many little snippets of wit from loads of famous people. Like...

"My neighbour asked if he could borrow my lawnmower and I told him of course he could so long as he didn't take it out of my garden." - Eric Morecambe

"You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on." - Dean Martin

"We spend the first twelve months of our children's lives teaching them to walk and talk and the next twelve years telling them to sit down and shut up." - Phyllis Dilles

Generally good collection. The 1998 publication date gives it an interesting feel, and also explains the guiltless inclusion of so many Woody Allen quotes. The 20 categories are usefull. Although they are supposed to be funny, some lines reveal how times have changed because they have lost genuine humor and are now slightly cringe-inducing.

I am usually not a big fan of collections of quips and quotes. They can be hilarious, but after a while they get me bored.

This book is different: it is full of extremely witty snippets, grouped and indexed in a smart way. The perfect book to read while doing other things. Enjoy it!

This collection of quotations organizes the quips into 19 categories with a 20th chapter for miscellaneous sayings. It has no index or list of authors. The overall tone is cynical and sarcastic.
