We all have that voice inside our heads.

The one that speaks to us incessantly. That voice we trust to make the right decisions, to keep us on a positive path, even when others try to bring us down.

But what happens when that voice changes?
When it’s no longer a voice of reason, a voice of comfort giving us a pep talk when we need one?

What happens when that inner voice tu

It's hard for me to put into words my feelings on this book. Its a book that both terrified me and intrigued me. For people to know what you as a bulimic, hid behind closed doors for so long, is so terrifying. The way the illness makes you feel and hurts you. The control the bully has. Yep! Its hard. So when this came up in discussion. And the idea that Gillian had. I saw this as a new step, in way of therapy for me.

Now I am not a rockstar in the making and my folks and siblings are very much m

Fighting Weight is an emotional and personal journey. Alina is you, she’s me, she’s anyone that struggles with voice in their head. When she meets Slater, everything isn’t magically better. But as she follows her journey, her hero is there to fight along side her as she wins her own battle. Slater may be famous and untoucbleable, but when he meets Alina, her spirit shines even when she tries to hide it. This rock star romance blew me away and left an imprint on my heart.

This book was very emotional for me. I briefly suffered from Bulimia as a teenager. I could identify with so much of this book. Yes, it was a romance book. But more than that, it really explained in a fictionalized way, the psychological toll that this disease takes on a person. I was lucky (no pun intended). My mom was a supportive person who got me right to a doctor. But as you can see from this story, not everyone has a great support system. Whether it be a bully or someone that me

More than 5 stars!!!!

Alrighty people, make sure you have your tissues handy as you are definitely going to need them for this beautiful read. This author REALLY excels at writing books that contain topics that at times can be hard to read about, heavy topics such as addiction, mental health issues and bulimia. As mentioned by the author, this book does contain a HEA, so whilst the story may give you some tears, the ending is really sweet and well worth all the tears shed to get to it.

How do you put into words how profoundly moving this story is... 5 stars just isn't enough! This book is truly not for the faint of heart... Gillian doesn't hold back in this gritty, real, emotion filled story of Alina and her daily struggle to overcome the beast that is bulimia! The prologue gives us the first insight into how devastating peoples words can be to a person's self esteem... that and the heartbreaking tragic loss of your only real support system and you have the recipe for disaster ...more

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

So I was lucky to receive a early copy of this book. And like with her previous book Tainted love Gillian Jones has blew me away. She is one of those authors who can take a sensitive subject and can make you live through every single emotion every single feeling, everything that the heroine has gone through and turn it into a beautiful story.

What Alina went through was so heartbreaking and so sad, I was crying my eyes out. It was heartbreaking for me to

Damn, this book near killed me. Being someone that has struggled with their weight my entire life this book really hit home and I could see a lot of myself in our heroine. While I never took my weight loss tactics to the extreme that she did, I could empathise with her every choice.

This is no easy read and incredibly honest and real but despite her issues, love has the power to change everything. Alina is alone apart from her brother, but he is not always around and the voices in her

I have really sat and thought about how I could write this review without it sounding like everybody else’s. But, do you know what! I can’t. I have read other reviews and everyone agrees that in some way shape or form we can all relate to this story.
A Bully doesn’t have to be in human form. A lot of us have had or still have a Bully! Or, somebody close to us, we have watched and still watch them fall into this black hole, some a lot more than others and I thank them for letting Gilly use their e

Gillian Jones, you deserve a standing ovation on this tale of a very real and sensitive subject that people in today’s society suffer from every day. This book had me on a roller coaster ride of lows and highs; its perspective on the subject of bulimia is raw and emotional.

This story plays on the heartstrings. I cannot fathom what it took for Gillian to write such an emotional read but it was brilliantly brought to life and you feel every damn battle this girl goes through. I’m in love with thi

What a emotional deep book that truly pulls at your heart. This book is truly one I’ll never forget. The author brings you fully into a world that deals with bulimia and abuse and makes you feel the characters into your bones. I cried and yelled and even had to calm myself while reading this book because it truly makes you feel hopeless at times so much you wanna reach into the book and help. Everyone has a past and demons but we all need to realize we’re strong and we can fight and not give up ...more

Gillian Jones can take real life, and all of it's realist, cruelest, heartbreaking parts and weave it into something so absolutely beautiful... all while staying true to what the story's about.

This book made me sob - ugly cry, constant tears, snot down my face sob. It wasn't a pretty sight, but I loved every bit of it!

It shone such a light on something that so many people are in the dark about. And there was a love story wrapped into all of it that was so pure, and hopeful.

Sadly, I know that I wouldn't be able to find right words for this book, but I will try my best. This story... It broke me and at the same time revived. I felt like on rollercoaster with my emotion being all over the place. Even while I wrote this, I was misty-eyed.
This story made me bleed tears. It made me laugh. It was heartbreaking and agonizing. It was beautiful and captivating.

I’m sitting here, trying to process everything that went on in Fighting Weight by Gillian Jones. I’m on the verge of tears thinking of everything Ali went through in her young life. How the woman who is supposed to love her most in the world looked at her as if she was nothing. My heart races with emotion when I think about how destroyed Ali must have felt listening to her mother berate her day in and day out. How that cruelty didn’t end there, but how she continued to suffer at the hands of her ...more
Fighting Weight has taken the top slot for my favorite book of 2018 as well as being an all-time favorite read for me. How could it not? This book is written with so much emotion, and it is an issue that affects so many women and men, and Gillian Jones handled it with so much sensitivity and love. I knew that the first moment I read her note to readers and her dedication.

Alina was just a child when her world was turned upside down. Her mother, who had once been so loving turned to alcohol, and t

With all the talk about this book before I received it, I knew that I was setting myself up for an emotional read. By the time I was reading chapter 2, I had that funny feeling in my stomach full of understanding, compassion and fear of where Ms Jones was taking us. An now I sit trying to figure out how to give the impact of this book the proper words to help it shine.

Alina is truly fighting the biggest fight of her life. Remembering the times in

Ms Jones has once again tackled a very serious topic in Fighting Weight, and I won’t lie some parts were heartbreaking and hard to read, but overall this was a story of hope and overcoming your demons.

Alina didn’t have the greatest start to her life, and after a tragic event and moving to live with her aunt and uncle life doesn’t get any better, in fact it gets worse. She feels so out of control in every aspect in her life, not only does she feel she’s not good enough, she’s told this constantly

I've read a couple of books by Gillian Jones now and she never fails to make me cry. Gillian writes these amazing books with such a deeper meaning to them. They're thought-provoking, moving and highly emotional. Fighting Weight is a book that's relatable and real. A lot of research, time and effort goes into her books, and this one is no different. Everything from the plot, characters, title, and meaning behind it all is so well thought ou

Let me start by saying this books needs and deserves more than 5 stars!
Fighting Weight is not your average love story but ultimately it is a love story, it’s raw, it’s deep and it’s emotional. It has the right amount of light hearted humour to break up the heavy subject matter. Gillian has weaved it when and only when it’s needed and she’s done it flawlessly.
The subject matter and the plot at times is confronting and hard to read but it’s honest and needs to be talked about more freely and this

First off this book is way beyond 5 Stars, I can’t even express how beyond it is. Second off this review will not do this book justice but I will try. When Gillian writes a book I can guarantee that you will feel so much emotion that whichever book that you’ve read it will stick with you for days if not months. And this is one of those books, one of those books that will reach deep down into you soul and just grab you and hold on with all it’s might while at the same time digging it’s claws into ...more

Fighting Weight by Gillian Jones is a deeply emotional encompassing a truly difficult subject ~ bulimia and fighting an eating disorder. Alina Cassidy and her brother Lucky only have each other, both fighting addictions and battling their demons. No one would wish their childhood on their worst enemy. Alina is trying to follow her dreams but "she" keeps holding her back and trying to trip her up. Reading and following her journey was heartbreaking, eye opening and hopeful all at the same time.

Grab the tissues, grab a glass of wine or sparkling water or coffee, and settle in. I had a hard time in the beginning - Alina goes through so much, so much, so much! The monsters do their best to crush her from the inside, and it's so hard to read. The writing is so beautiful, so REAL, so raw...

And then we have Slater, whose heart is as big as Canada, I swear! *Swoon* He makes Ali laugh - he makes ME laugh. The bands are amazing, the lyrics shared throughout the story are monumentally touc

A beautiful inspirational story of a young woman who fights a bully that is one of the hardest to fight, her mind. After growing up with a unfeeling mother and a cruel Aunt, Alina discovers a path that she thinks gives her control, but ends up controlling her. I knew going in this was going to be a hard read that was expect but the feeling Alina had of being unworthy hit me hard. Her addiction is not pretty, there’s shame, regret and tears.
My fave part is her great support system her brother what a great bond they have, he was always there for her even when he was fighting his own demons. The girl in the band, wow sisters for life. Fighting Weight
By: Gillian Jones
Let me start by saying the books I have read by Gillian she writes about very hard subjects.  I am sure you can see where Fighting Weight is going.
Alina has had too many people in her life telling her that she wasn't good enough.  That she needs to do this or that so that she doesn't get too fat.  At 13 her Bully makes her first appearance.  For years she falls into the trap her Bully has set and develops Bulimia and Body Dysmorphia.  After all the hell she

OMG! There should be more stars to rate this amazing book. Gillian Jones is a brilliant author who writes quality stories featuring 'real' people in which you can easily relate. Let me just put it out there...THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK FOR EVERYONE!

The struggle Alina has with her inner demon is so hard and damaging. It tears you apart with the raw emotions she goes through. The female role models from her childhood years make you wonder how she survived at all. Her inner strength and determination

Where to begin with this review. I'm not even sure I can fully put into words the impact this story has for me. You see, through many points in my life, even now, I know the inner demon Alinia tries so hard to fight. Some days it's an uphill battle and other days it's an easy defeat. What Gillian wrote about and captured in this story, I cannot put into words adequately. Many small nuances that were discussed and checks, I did and STILL do. For me, what started it all was simply the cover!

The beauty of the design, the way the colors went from light to dark and the haunting silhouette of the tree, as it held up the figure of the girl above its branches...
