'A Big Kid Bed is Coming' is a sweet adventure created to help kiddos love sleeping (and staying in) their new 'Big Kid Bed.' As parents, we all know that as children grow older, they face many new milestones and transitions. Like adults, kids need to dig deep for their inner courage and bravery to navigate these new tides. Anything new at first is well...new! And new things often are accompanied by some big nerves. That's why we created Louie. The sweetest, most brave elephant around. Gift your child the experience of conquering this new milestone with a buddy by their side and gaining some newfound confidence. Louie will not only show them that a 'Big Kid Bed' can be exciting but also adventurous and fun! The best part? A restful, great night's sleep. A Big Kid Bed is Coming is the first book of its series; we hope you enjoy it. Sweet dreams! "With sweet rhymes and beautiful illustrations, this children's book inspires bravery and greatness." - Lauren Steed, New York
The quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face fear or difficulty. Merriam-Webster
Bravery isn’t always bold or flashy. Often, it’s the quiet courage we summon in everyday moments—the small, powerful decisions that shape who we become. It’s a spark that ignites self-discovery, builds resilience, and lays a strong foundation for lifelong confidence.
At Brave Kid Press, bravery is everything. We believe it's a skill, a mindset, and a muscle—one that can be nurtured from the earliest years of life. Whether it’s trying something new, speaking up, or facing an unfamiliar challenge, bravery opens doors to growth and helps children feel strong, capable, and seen.
Our books are created to support those moments—to help kids build inner strength, emotional resilience, and a belief in themselves. We’re here to show that bravery isn’t about being fearless. It’s about moving forward, even when something feels big or scary.
Meet the Author: Liz Fletcher
For Liz Fletcher, bravery isn’t just a theme—it’s the heart of her journey as a mother, artist, and author.
A lifelong creative, Liz has always been drawn to storytelling and expression. She earned her BA in Graphic Design and Fine Arts from the University of San Francisco and spent years immersed in artistic projects. But it was the birth of her first child that awakened a new purpose—one rooted in raising brave kids.
As a new mom, Liz noticed a gap in children’s literature: Plenty of books taught skills, but very few spoke to the emotional bravery required during significant childhood milestones—like potty training, trying new foods, navigating BIG emotions, or meeting a new sibling. She wanted more than just instruction for her kids. She wanted empowerment.
That vision became Brave Kid Press.
Her debut series, Louie’s Little Lessons, follows a brave little elephant as he takes on all sorts of big kid moments with heart and courage. Through Louie’s stories, Liz helps kids (and parents) see bravery in all its forms—whether it’s managing big feelings, advocating for themselves, or stepping into the unknown with curiosity.
Now a mom of four, Liz pours her lived experience into every page she writes. She’s seen firsthand how storytelling can build a child’s inner voice—and her mission is to help young readers everywhere discover that they are brave, too.
Why Bravery Matters
Bravery is more than a moment—it’s a mindset. When we teach kids to lean into change, speak their truth, and believe in themselves, we’re not just preparing them for childhood—we’re equipping them for life.
Through every book, every lesson, and every Louie adventure, Liz Fletcher is making one thing clear:
Bravery belongs to everyone—and it starts in the stories we tell.**
I love the concept of this book; helping kids to be courageous, to be positive about change, and to embrace the new - in this book - a new BIG bed. The author has an excellent grasp of the natural child's imagination and capacity for invention. A new big bed (and a red cape - a detail I loved, ) transform a cute little elephant into a comic superhero who captains his bed which becomes a huge ship, the elephant flies into the cosmos and explores Space, and even uses his bed blanket to make a tent. Many children fear having a big bed after the "security" of one with bars, and this little book fulfills a need for reassurance about becoming a big boy or girl with a more "grown-up" bed. The story is loosely rhymed in places and is rhythmic, helping kids to learn sounds and recognize patterns when they read. Very occasionally, the words were a little clunky, but overall it was good. The illustrations were colorful and fun, but I would have preferred hand-drawn, less angular illustrations with softer outlines in what is a bedtime book.
Louie is a toddler elephant who like most toddlers is curious and inquisitive. He loves playing hero and finds adventure everywhere. Louie has one problem. He is getting too big for his crib.
His father is putting together a new bed, but Louis is unsure. Then he decides he might as well try it out. Soon he is imagining turning it into a pirate ship, a spaceship and a magic carpet. He now longer loses sleep and is happier than ever.
I never had difficulty transitioning my children from crib to bed. For parents whose toddlers are fearful, this book will reassure them. Recommended especially for ages two through five.
Louie (elephant) has lots of magical powers. There are lots of other animals around where he lives. Louie has trouble sleeping. The sun is down & the moon is up. Louie’s bed is nice & soft. He is off to dreamland.
Will Louie finally be able to sleep?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great colored illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s educational adventure story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational adventure movie, or a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Here is a wonderful book about transitioning from a crib to a big kid bed. It shows how uncomfortable the crib is with the Help of the crazy illustrations. I highly recommend the book for all kids, no matter the age, who are getting a big kid bed. Louie is an Elephant Hero he finds adventure wherever he goes. He went golfing and found Dinosaurs eggs. Louie also has magical powers and soars across the sky. What is Louie not feeling so well about doing? What does he do?
