At twenty-four, Clarinda James has lived a traumatic life. One of the last images she saw before losing her sight was that of her parents' death. The nightmares of that time still haunt her every night.
Taken in at nineteen by her sister, Clary didn’t know there was going to be a price to pay, a price far greater than her blindness. It’s not until Blue walks into her life, she realizes it’s possible to experience the joy of warmth. In her darkness, Blue will become her beacon, her guide. Little does she know that she’ll need to count on Blue more than she thought she would.
She has to…if she wants to stay alive.
Blue Skies is on the lookout for a woman. Always there to support his brothers, Talon and Griz, he’s not a stranger to the craziness of love or life. Nor is he a stranger to making it clear that comments surrounding his name are out of bounds. Despite the often effed-up situations his brothers find themselves in as a result of their women, he’s more than happy to settle down when he finds his missing piece.
After three weeks of seeing a gorgeous redhead in a café, he refuses to let the opportunity pass him by. Building a tentative relationship with Clary is no easy task; she’s damaged. It’s not until he discovers the truth behind her darkness that he willing lays claim to her. He is determined to protect her, no matter the cost. She is irrefutably his.
The minute Blue Skies noticed Clarinda James, he knew she was special. He had no idea she was blind or that even though she could hear his voice and was interested, she had no clue it was mutual. After a few disastrous meetings that still left their interest in one another in the air, Clary finds out her sister has been behind a series of mishaps and that her life was a lie. When Blue finds Clary under the protection of his MC club, he has no doubt she will one day be his. However Clary deserves to be courted properly but Clary has other ideas.
Part of the Hawks Motorcycle Club series, this was quite different than the others as the Clary was a bit more vulnerable and came out of her shell. I liked that Blue finally found a woman for him and she is perfect. Look forward to more in this series.
This is easily my favourite book from this series! I loved that it featured a blind h with a possessive-almost-obsessive alpha h with me-Tarzan-you-jane mentality. The last couple of biker reads I had were pretty intense with the grit, action and damaged MCs so it was refreshing to read an MC book that toned down the crazy. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loved the secondary characters, it was great to read cameos of MCs from the previous two books. I do wish that the H's blindness wasn't dealt with so swiftly and conveniently after her problems were sorted though. I would've liked to see how Blue would've handled the situation then. I'm definitely looking forward to Stokes book - I felt for sure the next book would be Billy's and Picks story after finishing this book.
I'm not sure what it is about this series but it never fails me. It's a very light hearted MC Romance series but I love it all the same. The characters stick with you and the men love and respect their one true woman. Blue has wanted that world ending kind of love for a long time. With dirty blonde hair and piercing blue eyes tons of women have wanted him but none of them have been worth keep until he meets Clary. Clarinda has been blind for the past five years. She was the only survivor of a fire involving her parents and lives with her sister believing that she will never be able to see again. She goes to the coffee shop every Saturday where instead of seeing how beautiful Blue is, she smells his intoxicating scent. What I admired most about "Black Out" was the fact that Clarinda feels like your everyday normal person and what's even better is Blue treats her as one. He does not blink an eye about her being blind, he is attracted to her all the same and I love that.
Second time read and just as wicked as the first loved it Ooh wow another hot sexy read and Heartbreaking so beautiful I couldn't put it down a must read . You will fall in love ❤❤❤ come fall in love with Blue and Clary.
2.0 RATING- I know several of my GR loves this series. I do not. I'm not sure why in the world I bought and read this. The first book in the series was a DNF for me (the first book I ever returned to Amazon for a refund). Unfortunately, this author just doesn't work for me in a major way. I will definitely remember that in the future before my one-clicker gets a way from me.
Lila Rose has done a wonderful job describing the 'coming alive' of Clary, a young woman who was emotionally traumatized and physically injured by a tragic event at an impressionable age.
Clary lost her sight, her parents and her independence at an age where the world should have opened up for her, but instead it closed itself off. Dependent entirely on her sister she goes through life for the next five years trying hard not to be any more of a burden than she already is. Or rather, made to feel. It is difficult for her to differentiate between what is real and what is perceived, because her world is small and her frame of reference limited to only few.
Blue is envious of the peace that has settled over his MC brothers after love has claimed them. It is something he wouldn't mind for himself, but when he approaches the quiet but beautiful woman in the coffeeshop he has spotted for a few weeks now, he's afraid she will bring too many complications with her and walks away. It isn't until a month later that he realizes the mistake he made, when he found her in his bedroom at the club compound, bruised and battered.
With her heightened senses, Clary sought safety with the smell she recognized, the smell that reminded her of the man who had offered her the promise of more. Something she had been too timid to go after. Something she would grab with both hands would it come by again. When what she thought was a safe haven, turned out to be a sick form of hell, it was the kindness of virtual strangers, and the protection of what appeared to be dangerous man, that gave her back her life. And her spirit.
I am a SUCKER for stories about people who by all appearances are weak, but who are given an opportunity to assert themselves and end up shining. Stronger, fiercer and bolder than ever before. Clary is one of those people. She comes across as timid and frail at first, but holds a core of strength that becomes more and more obvious as she starts making more choices based on her needs as the story evolves. Blue has a protective streak a mile wide, as any self-respecting alpha male does, but grows wise enough to allow Clary to assert herself and grow into the independent woman she needs to be.
Most of the cast of characters are familiar from the previous books in the Hawks MC series and I so enjoyed the dynamics between them. It is like going home for a family gathering when I pick up one of Lila Rose's books.
I enjoyed this book, however what started off really good, turned into a bit of a ' oh come the hell on' for me until about 30%, then it sped up and the drama increased only to have the main suspense storyline to end surprisingly early on and in my opinion it was a bit of an anti-climax. Then it plodded along and suddenly it was all 'OMG!" and the drama picked again and it was rush, rush, rush till the end!
I like my MC heroes to be so OTT in lust/love with the h from the start of page one, so much so that they won't take no for an answer, and Blue, although still thought of Clarey still didn't get his arse into gear straight away. I did love the characters and although it was a bumpy uneven read it was still a good story.
Black Out was such a refreshing twist on the recently popular MC novels. I am still surprised by how much I enjoyed this book mostly because I found myself laughing and just enjoying the characters early on. It was an adventure and just plain fun to read, with some off the charts steamy moments. Perhaps Clary’s blindness makes her more endearing from the get go, at least for me, but her sweet naivety and vulnerability could win anyone over. It’s not every day a main character has such a obvious character flaw, most are hidden deep inside but Clary’s is forefront in every moment of her life. Clary may be blind, but she's anything but helpless, at least where Blue and his club is concerned. Clary barely survived a fire that took her parents lives. Losing her eyesight was just another loss for her. Thrust into a new and unseeing world, Clary is forced to live with her sister. Immediately meeting Clary’s sister I hated her. The way she treats, talks and blames Clary is repulsive. In many ways I was sad and angered on Clary’s behalf, but being blind and trying to live alone is a hurdle Clary does not believe she is ready for. Clary goes two places: the library where she listens to audio books and the café where she can relax and hopefully hear/smell- the impossible to not be HOTT- Blue who also frequents the café. There may be an instant attraction on both their parts and trust me it’s believable even though Clary can’t see but this is no insta-love, insta-relationship between Blue and Clary. Building something between them will be no easy road with life, family and Clary’s vulnerability barring the way.
Though this is an MC novel, it’s not MC heavy meaning there is more focus on the relationship than the dynamics of the club. Sure it’s still there and Blue being a member is very important to him, but then again so is Clary. I once again would like to point out that this book has some hysterical moments. I mean how many times have you a sex scene in which the heroine gets poked in the eye with a dick. And don’t worry, I’ve ruined nothing, the scene and a few others will have you clutching your belly. Black Out is the third book in the series, but it’s the first I’ve read and I was not once lost, confused or separated from the story. Other characters from the previous books are featured a bunch and having met them, I am eager to go back and read their stories, however, feel free to jump in as I did. The author does a great job of keeping the storyline on track and easy to follow. Though it’s not jammed packed full of drama and action, there are still enough moments that make this a very enjoyable read and one that will keep you up late into the night. MC fans will be pleased and so will everyone else.
The Hawks MC have gone straight, one by one the brothers are finding and fighting for love. This story had Blue and Clary missing each other, over and over. As soon as one of them gave up they would again meet and both felt that spark.
Clary was amazing. Even when the hits kept coming she stood strong. Helped that she found her "people" in the club, their women and Julien and Mattie. Her honesty was incredible, and the passion she gave herself over to was stunning. The words that fell from her mouth often had my laughing out loud! Girls night was absolutely HIlarious! Love that she holds her own, even when such strong personalities (looking at you Hell Mouth-Deanna) could easily overshadow her.
Blue was not what I expected. He was kind of an a$$ in book one with Zara and Talon. He dotes on his mom and brother, loves his MC and can't get the beautiful redhead out of his mind. Even when he thinks she has blown him off he comes to her aid when she needs him. His need to protect her, claim her and be better for her...swoooooon!
Also wonderful how we learn a bit more about all of the characters in each story.
An original MC read, lots of passion, humor, suspense and honor. The families -both born and made-are at the center of what they all do and makes for an engaging read.
When this book was released I savored it, cause I didn't want to read it yet. But then I just couldn't wait anymore. And I was not disappointed. Lila Rose this series is AWESOME!!! From the first book till this one.
I loved Clary and Blue's story! From the first page when she was listening for him in the café and sensing him (his scent) I was hooked. Wanted to throat punch her sister though, seriously!!! But this book had all my favorite characters, Julian, Deanna, Zara, Talon, Grizz and then we meet Ivy as well. Awesome!!! I want friends like this...
If you haven't read this series, I suggest you start at Book 1 and you will not be disappointed. It will have you laughing out loud, shocked, sometimes teary, but when you read the last page, you will be like 'sigh'... :-)
Cannot wait for the next story.... LILA ROSE YOU ROCK!!!
Out of all the books in this series this one is my favorite, Blue his thoughts are those of a man who's about to get whipped by his woman, "why did I have to lose my balls when feelings came into play? I swear Clary wore a new necklace with my hairy sack swinging around her neck." Clary that girl is a go-getter she has precision and oomph to get what she wants, "he was already hard, and I liked I'd done that to him. I managed one stroke in before his hand went over mine. "Jesus, woman, you just don't give up..." Oh my God one scene was Blue doesn't know how lethal he really is, "eff, sugar. Are you okay? Christ, baby," I asked. Of course she wasn't okay, because -dammit all to hell- I just poked my woman in the eye with my d***." The boy is whipped and he has to act all tough around other people to make sure they know who's boss in the relationship, "what the eff, baby? Hell Mouth just stood there and told me you're gonna talk about my c*** and how good I give it to you, and you want me to keep it clean?" I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one.
This was the best book in the series in my opinion. The third book is about Blue and Clary. The story is quite intense with lots of dramatic action and a good sub plot. All the gang are still in the story. Griz had been my favourite but OMG....Blue is THE man! He is alpha, badass, sweet, hot, loyal, protective and possessive in the best way. Clary is beautifully written, you see her character develop beautifully and she is thoroughly likeable from start to finish. She is strong and feminine and perfect for our Blue. Lots of sex and swearing in this book so over 18's advised. Third in a series- could be standalone but better read as a series. The author has really improved with the flow of her writing and the whole feel of the book and character development. I'm glad I perservered despite reservations about the first book. Each one has just got better and this is one of my favourite reads of the year. Bring on Stoke's story next.
Wow. That's all there is to say about this. I know it seems that I say the same thing each time but Lila can do no wrong with her writing. I love her to death. If you haven't started any of her Hawk's MC series, you need to. Seriously. It's funny and tear jerking all at the same time. These men are hawt alphas with a heart of gold. I love them. Anyone who knows me knows that I am in love with Talon (Holding Out) but Blue just snuck up there and is now standing right next to him.
What happened?? I enjoyed the first two in the series but this one was so weak; both in character dynamics and storyline. The conflict(s) felt hastily thrown together. The romance was more sex based then anything and even the sex scenes were formulaic and unbelievably cheesy. It honestly felt like someone else wrote this with Rose because there were two different 'voices' and you could see when they changed.
Yass Blue has finally gotten what he wanted for a long time a woman he loves as much as his brothers love their women. I know one thing Clary, sister Amy was an evil bitch! For the way she treated her sister if it wasn’t for Blue Skies and his family, I think she wouldn’t have gotten her eyesight back. For five years she was BLIND which she didn’t have to be if she would’ve gotten the procedure done once she was out of the hospital, you know family can be worse than the people who aren’t your family, and people who aren’t your family can be nicer. I was glad Julian gave Clary that cell phone because lord knows if he didn’t she would’ve been sold and rape more likely and her sister wouldn’t have given two flying ducks either. This was a good book and I was not disappointed.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING CHARACTERS :D Wow, so impressed - I read three of her books today, and I can't stop, someone help me haha.
Hands down, this was my favorite book of this series - Oh sweet Blue. I found him charming since he first came into the picture trying to get onto Talon's woman, not because of that of course, rather because his sense of humor, his fierceness and loyalty brought me to my knees. The storyline was great, who would have thought her sister would be up to this - so glad how it ended. If you love sweetness mixed with loyalty and a strong woman not willing to take shit, this one is for you. Be careful or your heart will melt.
I highly recommend reading this series versus listening to the audiobook. The female narrator is awful!!!!! For a detailed explanation, read my review of prior installments.
*WARNING* story contains explicit sexual content I can't seem to get enough of this series. I love the characters. These strong, badbutt biker men seem to fall head over heels at first sight and these ladies always have some terrible baggage to deal with.
If you're looking for a enjoyable quick read, to put a smile on your face, this one here is for you.
I laughed a bit and smiled a lot while reading this book. Blue was really sweet and I liked him a lot. I find some female MC's really hard to like and rate a book low just because of them. However, Clary was smart and funny and I liked her.
Now, there was a thing which kinda pushed my buttons.
'My woman'
I'm sorry, I really am. After a hundredth time, I kinda got fed up with it. And when I thought nothing will annoy me more than 'my woman', I came across 'my man'.
Anything in small doses it's cute. A bit too much, and it's annoying.
I have been patiently waiting for Blue's story. I GOT IT!!! Woo hoo! I have loved Blue since Holding Out. Sorry, but I first wanted him w Zara *cringing* don't hate me! He is so sweet and sexy, what girl wouldn't root for him from the beginning? Ok enough about my crush on Blue...
I loved this story. How they met especially is just so swoon worthy. I didn't think I would love this man anymore. Clearly, that isn't true haha. Book starts off where you meet Clarinda. She goes to a cafe every Saturday to give her sister a "break" from caring for her. Clarinda is blind from an incident that happened five years earlier. (Trying not to spoil too much so you'll find out when you one click this book cuz you will ;) ). For three weeks, Blue has came and made her think about something other than her disability. She looks forward to hearing that bell chime when the door opens and hears his heavy boots walk up to the counter. After 3 Saturday's, he finally approaches and that's when their story really takes off.
Sadly, Clarindas' sister is a real c**t that treats her like crap. She messes things up for Clarinda any chance she gets so she'll stay dependent on her. Grrrr I wanted to slap this bitch! Abused physically and emotionally, Blue is just what she needs. She also befriends the Hawks ladies and Julian. Thank god cuz Clarinda finds out her sister is worse than she thought. Hawks MC to the rescue!
Once Blue finds out, he does EVERYTHING he can to protect her. Of course their love blossoms because of it and it's the best thing to ever happened to the both of them. Danger continues to get in their way but in the end, they come out stronger because of it, especially Clarinda!
I hope I didn't spoil too much but this book just sucks you in and you wanna tell everyone about it like if it actually happened to YOU. When any one was excited, YOU WERE! When someone was sad, YOU WERE! Happy? YOU WERE! This book is that wonderfully written.
I really LOVED this book if you couldn't tell ;). Lila, you continue to impress me with your awesome writing. You know I wanna live in your mind. I tell you enough, it's like a broken record haha. But seriously, thank you for finally giving me my Blue :)
Stokes story will be next in the series and I seriously can't wait. After what happened in Chapter 7 of Finding Out (novella in the Owned Anthology), I really wanna know who his "one" is and what is going through that mans mind. I know it's gonna be another sexy one Lila!
I have to give this a great big stonking 4.5 stars, I was hooked immediately after starting this and a friend of mine who I was talking to her at midnight and telling her I was about to start this book so off I went to bed and I opened this book just to see what it would 'feel' like and then all of a sudden it was 2am! See I was hooked!
OMG I cannot see anyone not being affected by Clarinda in this book. Bravo Lila you wrote Clarinda's character extremely well, she's still strong after everything she's gone through and considering her disability; well, she's a perfect heroine. I could feel the blackness around me too as though I was in Clarinda's predicament, very well written indeed and her situation really tugged at the ole heart strings. She had me routing for her all the way!
Now a biker book wouldn't be a biker book without the crass talking, leather wearing, macho acting hulk of a biker and yeah I know I've come into this series out of order but heck it was easy to follow whose who and I definitely want to get book 1 and start from the start after this! Blue was a perfect biker with a heart, I will duck as I say I laughed at his name, but then I think I was suppose too LOL - and no I am not telling you, go read the book yourself to find out. Another character that I absolutely loved was Julian! I want a friend like Julian and I want to be his buttercup too!
There are a fair few biker writing novelists out there now and I love it when I happen across one that encompasses you will all things biker-ish and not just playing at writing characters who like a lot of sex and using dirty language. Lila has created a great biker club and her characters have depth and great personalities. I really am glad I'm not a Hawks MC virgin anymore ;-)
I received a copy of Black Out in return for an honest review, my reviews are my own and are 100% honest.
This was actually really close to a 4 or 5 star read for me. I couldn't put the book down for about the fist 12 chapters then it just kind of stalled a little for me, unfortunately there was also way too much stupid crap from Zara and crew for me especially at the end. I didn't care for Zara about half way through her book because she was so dense, I mean everyone needs to go to a bar and get drunk putting people in danger while protecting you when a psycho is after you. She proved to be a nitwit about that in this one right along with Deanna, we all know getting a mani and pedi is essential when someone is trying to kill you, kidnap you, and whatever the hell else was going on with Clary. It was just stupid. I won't even get into skank central at the end with the drunk night crap and the "rescue" crap, idiotic pretty much sums that up.
So with that said I loved Clary, for the most part anyway she was great unless she was around Zara and Deanna, she even got on my nerves in this one. Clary actually was doing just fine dealing with everything like an adult without those two. Julian as always was awesome. Blue and Clary were a great match, although I wish they had a little more building of their relationship after the action was over.
Overall it was a good addition to the series. I can't wait for Pick's book after something that happened in this one so I was kind of disappointed to see Stoke is next instead of Pick...but I will read Stoke's story and hope that Pick will be the next one.
I've been reading a lot of MC books lately, yet Black Out has taken its place in my heart as one of my favorites because of its uniqueness.
Even though Clarinda's life changed in an instant she still found her inner strength to continue to live and has vowed to live to the fullest.
Blue's life hasn't been easy but since being in the Hawks MC he feels his life is going according to plan. That is, until he sees Clarinda in the café and from there he feels the need to make sure she's in his life.
As Clarinda and Blue get to know each other we see what makes Clary fall for Blue, his kindness (yes, sexy Bikers all have it within them), protectiveness, boldness and fierceness. She doesn't feel worthy of his love because she doesn't want to be a burden to him. Oh, but sexy Blue makes sure to let EVERYONE, especially his brothers, know that Clary is his and his ONLY, and he makes sure Clary knows that she now belongs to him.
I loved the interaction between Clary and Blue, from getting to know each other to trusting each other and to giving each other their heart. **sighs loudly** There is plenty of sweetness, humor (the other girls in the MC), mystery, angst and SEX...my goodness was that HOT!!
I have not read the other books prior to this one but I will be reading them because I want to know their stories. ~ Kara, 5 Scorching Hot Stars
I've read almost all books in the Hawks mc world. This story is the best by far. This isn't a love at first sight story but it's a love at first scent story. Charisma is partially blind and every Saturday at the coffee shop she comes across a scent that draws her. Blue has been going to the coffee shop every Saturday trying to catch the eye of a certain red head. Imagine his surprise when finds out that the woman that caught his eye is blind. That means he can't use his looks to attract her, but has to come up with a new way to woo her. Every time Blue and Clarinda try to get together there's a major obstacle in their way. That obstacle being Clarindas' sister (that twisted nut job). Her sister is blocking her every chance she gets and when the reason is revealed Clarinda has to run for her life. She goes to Julian and in turn brings in the Hawks. Usually in all the stories Julian is the comic relief and has all the Hawk men cringing. But not in this story, he shows another side of himself that no one knew. That of protector. Blue has no idea what's going on at home. He's away on Hawk business (apparently the Hawks chapter in the other town need to be whipped into shape). When he gets back all hell is about to break loose. No one messes with his woman not if they want to end up in a body bag.
And once again another awesome book for this series! Clarinda has been living with her sister since she lost her sight and her parents in a fire at 19. Five years later she lives a EXTREMELY sheltered life with no friends and minimal contact with the outside world. Recent months however have found her with a few people who are taking interest in her, then there is the guy at the Coffee shop...
After three weeks of waiting Blue finally stops waiting for Clary to make a move an approaches her, after there first meeting however wires get crossed and further interactions are derailed. Soon after this 'the shit hits the fan' so to speak. Revelations are had and everything that Clary knew to be true comes into question.
Enter in Julian and Posse... dun, dun, dun! lol! So basically after that a lot more 'Shit' goes down. I really like reading about this side of Julian, Clary brings out a crazy over protective side in him that we haven't quite seen before. Blue of course is there as well and the spark that was there before only grows once Clary and him get a chance to spend time together. Some humor is added in as well, though with Lila Rose that's to be expected. All in all a GREAT Read! I'm going with 4.5 stars on this one!
