Using the story of David and Goliath as the background, Louie Giglio writes the wonderful book on overcoming the "giants" we face in our lives—giants like anger, fear, addiction, etc. The solution is clear, these giants not just can fall, they MUST fall! Through personal stories and strong biblical teaching, Giglio makes a wonderful case for the freedom God wants each of us to have in our lives. Now to be clear, I have heard teachings relating the story of the biblical giant killer to overcoming ...more

A solid book that is clear and accessible; and full of biblical truth. Giglio takes on the most common Goliaths in readers’ lives and declares their defeat with well placed confidence.

This is a simple truth well told, and recommended. It feels harsh to critique it but I longed for more depth and perhaps it was my own lack of attention that led to me feeling it never quite got out of the shallow end. For a message that is surely universal I too often felt I wasn’t the intended audience. Giglio’s

This book had two worthwhile things to say. First; in the account of David and Goliath, David represents Jesus, not us. Second; Jesus delivers us for God's glory, not our own. Much of the rest of the book was a mediocre rehash of worldly wisdom (pop psychology) that is not very helpful and not what Christians, or anyone else, really needs. Although, to be fair, the author did frequently point to Jesus as the one who can provide what we really need. I just wish a lot of the more worldly wisdom ...more

This was my first time reading a book by Louie Giglio and I’m impressed. His story telling is phenomenal and his writing is very relatable. His ideas are not to grand. This is one of the few books I’ve read that doesn’t spend a ton of time magnifying the topic without ever presenting a solution. You could stop at the end of every chapter and walk away with a plan on how to tackle giants. Very practical and useful. It’s also an easy read. Just 240 pages and it feels long at times but it’s very ...more

I attended several Passion conferences as a college student and have heard Louie Giglio preach at Passion City Church on trips to Atlanta, and I was excited to grab his latest book, because he always brings a WORD. This one was no different-- bold, unapologetic, Bible-focused, powerful, and convicting. Centered on the story of David and Goliath, Giglio talks about how fear, rejection, addiction, anger, and comfort all must fall, and let me tell you, it will PREACH. The story isn't cliche (even ...more

I love this view of David & Goliath and the application to the giants in my own life. It's a picture I won't easily or quickly forget. A couple of the giants I readily knew in advance that it was standing before me. As I listened to the other chapters, I could see bits and pieces of them around me. Fear, rejection, addiction, anger, comfort ... they all surround us and seek to keep us limited. Doubtful. Impotent. But we can be different. With the encouragement in this book, I am confidently ...more

This book was very practical and insightful. The author gave me a fresh look at the familiar story of David and Goliath, and made application in ways I hadn't seen before. The book talks about specific giants that we encounter in our life, and the two that were most poignant for me were fear and addictions. Great book, very reminiscent of "Gods at War" by Kyle Idleman, but with more of a storytelling style.

This book was an incredible read! It was so simple and easy too, packed full of practical knowledge. My favorite portions in each chapter involved Louis Giglio’s dissection of the root causes of each of our “Giants”. For example, fear comes from three primary roots - conditioning, controlling, and concealing. There were so many giants I didn’t think were at play in my life, with which I’ve actually been facing very obvious struggles! But, God is so much greater than those giants, and if I keep ...more

I love Louie Giglio, and I love both the opening and closing chapters of this book. The middle chapters, which dealt with specific giants felt a bit too “topical sermon, stretching Scripture to make a point” to me, but I’m still giving it 3.5 stars because of the conviction and encouragement of the introduction and closing.

Maturity is not any level of peer success one might attain, but rather the level to which one has moved Christ to the center of all decisions and service. This easy to read volume focusses on removing the barriers that bind us - which need not be.

Louis Giglio's confidence in God to take on the issues in our lives that appear as big as Goliath is infectious. Identifying the giants of fear, rejection, comfort, anger and addiction, he transparently shares about his own struggles with the need to control and receive approval which grew into anxiety. However, using the insight that Jesus played the role of David by conquering our giants for us, Louie invites us to God's presence. David's own words of worship in Psalms, lead us into worship ...more

The thesis of this book takes a little different slant and is well worth the read. It is very light reading, but the philosophy contained within is profound. It will take some time to digest the information and make it practical. Interesting read.

My God this was a phenomenal read! I loved everything about this book. Took me 3 months, but it was worth it. The nuggets and jewels of wisdom and inspiration in this book was fantastic. The scripture references were awesome.

This book really dives into the story of David and Goliath and sort of "corrects" the way many of us view it. As a kid we are taught about the story and as we grow up we believe ourselves to be like David in this story. However, Louie makes us under that we are in fact NOT

God wants us to live free from the demoralizing voice of that giant, and because God wants to get glory in our lives by showing the world that he is greater than everything we face in our lives, then that giant's got to go down.

What are the giants in your life that keep your from living life freely? Can you identify them? In the passion that is known of Louie Giglio, he is passionate about Christians living life freely to give God glory. Another words, without this freedom from

Excellent book. Everyone will be able to get something out of this because we all have “giants” in our lives that need to be defeated. Thanks to Jesus, we can find victory!

How do you gain victory over your toughest challenges? How do you get rid of an adversary that constantly steals your joy and passion? How do you live a life of victory rather than succumb to defeat and give up? Those questions lie at the heart of author and pastor Louie Giglio latest book,

Using the story of David and Goliath as a backdrop, the author suggests that each of us face one or more threatening giants. He specifically addresses

“You are closer than you think to a life that’s not diminished any longer. A life of true freedom. A life that fully radiates God’s glory.”

There are some problems that will not leave. Some obstacles rear their ugly heads over and over again. It doesn’t matter what we do, what we change, what we pray; they are always there. You can call them stumbling blocks. You can call them whatever small, cutesy name you want, but the reality is anything but. These problems, they are giants. Demoralising,

Despite the fact that he says you don't have to slay your giant because Jesus already did it, there are a lot of places it felt like I was being told to still stand up and fight my giants. Also, I take issue with the idea that Jesus slayed things like fear and comfort and addiction. While it's true that faith can bring healing into those dark places in our life, Jesus conquered sin and death. Jesus is not the antidote to everything that bothers me. There is much good advice in the book but it ...more

Goliath Must Fall is a great read! Just a few quotes:

Life is short. God is big.

Whatever giant we're battling might be big – but it's not bigger than Jesus.

Jesus is enough.

The book walks you through the story of David & Goliath. Luis uses the story to help us address the Giants of fear, rejection, addiction, anger, and comfort. Great read!

Giglio is an excellent storyteller who mixes memoir with Biblical exposition. He breathed new life into the story of David and Goliath, a familiar story for me of a teenage shepherd taking on a Philistine giant in the valley of Elah. I hadn’t considered some of the scriptural parallels Giglio revealed between David and Jesus. Before reading this book, I would have raised my hand if someone asked, “How many people think we are David in the story?” David’s conversation with the giant reveals whose ...more
