After getting The Baby Bombshell from Netgalley and reading it I was hooked on the Shadow Creek gang. I really wanted to see Gwen and her mysterious Muffin Man get a book. So I jumped at the chance to read this when I seen it on Netgalley. Victoria James didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed this sweet, feel good read. I laughed a lot reading this story. I have been itching to read Gwen Bailey’s story since I started reading the Shadow Creek series. The third book; The Doctor’s Redemption, gave me my wish.

I adored the first two books from this series, the author managed to turn me into an absolute blubbering mess pretty much from the prologue for each book, and kept me in an emotional spin-dryer with the telling of each of the stories for the couples that books focussed on, right to their ends. This cover is OK. The composition is WAY off and don't even get me started on the author's name being the largest text on there. Cue graphic design 101 lecture.

Sigh...It pains me to have to give this book a 3-star rating. I ADORED book one and two of this series and was SO looking forward to Gwen and her muffin man. Alas, this fell WAY short of my expectations.

I think this may be my favourite book in the Shadow Creek, Montana series. As always, I loved this story by one of my go-to authors, Victoria James. We first met Gwen Bailey in Christmas with the Sheriff. Five years after losing one of her brothers and nephew in a terrible accident, Gwen has had it rough. When her other brother, Jack, took off for parts unknown, Gwen felt the need to take on the role of caretaker of her remaining family. In The Baby Bombshell, we got to see Gwen begin to take some tentative steps towards starting to live again and now, in The Doctor’s Redemption, we get her story.

“He’s been coming here every morning.”

Jack snapped his finger and pointed at TMM. “Oh. The Muffin Man.”

She was going to kill her brother.”

Luke Thomson, AKA “The Muffin Man” was amazing. After learning about the guilt he had been harbouring for years, I just wanted to wrap him in my arms and give him comfort. His story was so heartbreaking. Despite vowing to stay away from Gwen, a woman he didn’t feel he deserved, Luke couldn’t seem to stay away from her.

I loved the connection that formed between Luke and Gwen. He saw right through all of her insecurities and into the great person that everyone else could see. Both were able to help the other with healing and putting the past behind them.

I felt so anxious for Luke throughout the book and the longer he held on to his secrets, the worse my anxiety got. I silently chanted for Gwen to be able to see her way past the perceived “betrayal of trust” and see Luke for the wonderful man he was so that he could forgive himself. I wasn’t disappointed.

Such a wonderful story!! (And hopefully not the last we see of the Baileys and their loved ones) ...more

I really enjoyed The Doctor's Redemption by Victoria James.

The storyline was well written, the plot held my interest all throughout the book and the characters touched my heart with their story.
I was so into Gwen and Luke's story I stayed up late into the night as I couldn't put it down. I needed to see how were these two going to get to their much deserved happily ever after.

There are great secondary characters in the story, too, and it was fantastic to catch up with some of them again. I’m enjoying this series and hope there will be additional books to come - I want to know what has happened to Luke’s sister and read more about Ben, too! Another winner from Victoria James, IMHO, I have no hesitation in recommending this and other books in this series to anyone who enjoys escaping into a very moving romantic read!

I've loved Victoria James' Shadow Creek series, so to be taken back so soon after the last visit was a treat.

At the end of The Baby Bombshell, we were given a fair hint on Gwen Bailey's potential love interest and, already knowing that Victoria can write a very fine doctor, I was excited to discover Gwen's mystery customer, The Muffin Man, was Dr. Luke Thompson.

A feel-good story that made me smile!

I was pulled in immediately by this one. Luke just happened to find himself attracted to Gwen. Super! But, Gwen also happens to be a member of the family he wants to make amends to. But Luke had zero idea about that until one fine day. Needless to say, this created some tension and I couldn't wait to see what happened at Luke's "big reveal."

This book treated me to some laugh-out-loud moments. Gwen is a pistol, and I loved the things she would say!

Victoria James is one of my favorite authors and an auto buy for me. I’ve read all of her books so I know what she’s capable of. Sadly, The Doctor’s Redemption wasn’t her best work. That’s not to say that the story wasn’t enjoyable or that I didn't like it. It was enjoyable and I did like it, but it wasn't what I expected from a Victoria James story. Victoria is known for her ability to write heart-wrenching scenes, which draws readers in and leaves them reaching for a box of tissue. That was missing from this story.

The main characters of Gwen and Luke are very likeable. However, I had issues with them. To me, Gwen came across as being too needy. She refused to allow Luke to turn her down when she wanted to spend time with him. There was a reason why he kept making excuses to not be with her. I wasn't fond of the fact that Luke took things too far without coming clean with Gwen about his secret. The secondary characters were all great and helped to pull the story together. They were able to show what was truly important in life and love.

While The Doctor’s Redemption wasn't a huge hit for me, I loved that it eludes to the possibility of a fourth book, which I would definitely love to read.

I knew this one was going to beautifully emotional. I had the tissues handy especially for the last part of the book. Gwen is ready to live life again for herself and she has her sights on Luke. I love the nickname she gave him, the Muffin Man or TMM. My heart just goes out to Luke. He has so much guilt inside him and keeps pushing Gwen away because knows he can't have her, but that doesn't stop him from yearning for her. The first 3 books were nice, but slightly uninspiring. They were shorter than I expected and a bit disappointing. Each book contained “fade to black” scenes and were very “clean, almost religious” reads. I am going to stop at 3 even though there are several more books in this series.

This is a fun romance in the Shadow Creek, Montana, series that I just loved. Five years ago, Luke was driving in an accident that killed five people. He returns to Shadow Creek to try to find a way to apologize and make amends to the people he hurt. Somewhere, along the way he began stopping in Gwen and Lily's chocolate shop after work each morning. He sees Gwen every morning without having any idea who she is. Ms. James is an author whose books I could read one after the other and never grow tired of her stories, because she writes incredible characters with back stories that more often than not tug at my heart-strings; and stories with fast-paced plots that hook me from the very beginning and leave me with the biggest smile at the end, because of what the hero and heroine have to overcome to be together, and certainly, this story was no different. The way this book started with the prologue sets the fast-pace of this story, and had me reading quickly, determined to discover what the hero is going to do. He has so much guilt that he needs to absolve himself of, if he's to be completely happy, and the only way that's going to happen is to confront his past.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, spell-binding and had me hooked, as it illustrates the power of love and forgiveness and the beauty of redemption and hope. When Gwen learns what Luke has been keeping from her, will she be able to forgive him when he had ample opportunity to explain his reasons for being in Shadow Creek? Moreover, the dialogue was a wonderful combination of intense due to the main characters back stories and teasing due to this couple's growing relationship. Their banter definitely ups the sexual tension, as Luke does his best to resist Gwen. However, Gwen doesn't make things easy for the hero to resist her. She knows what she wants, and after suppressing her needs and desires for the last five years to take care of her family after tragedy struck, she's determined to get everything she wants -- love and happiness. The question is -- is Luke the right guy for her?

Both the main characters were enthralling, and I loved every moment the hero and heroine interacted. Sometimes, it was fun and amusing and at others, it was deep and had me wanting to cry, because of their in-more-ways-than-one connection. Luke knows he's risking his relationship with Gwen by not revealing his secret, and it made me empathize with him. When would he realize that what happened years ago wasn't his fault? Will the secondary characters be able to help him overcome his guilt? Furthermore, Luke is strong and brave for the reason he's in Shadow Creek, and I could understand his need to face the past.

While Gwen, she's been through a lot with having lost two people she loved and then feeling like she had to be responsible for her family when things got tough, so it's understandable why she finally wants to do something for herself. As her family is finally starting to heal from their loss and finding their second chance at happiness, so isn't it time she did the same? Also, I liked how kind and caring she is and the effort she goes to in getting to know Luke. Will he accept her invitations? Then there's the nickname the heroine had for the hero, and I liked that he felt comfortable with her calling him it, because it certainly fit with his order whenever he came into Gwen's shop.

Overall, Ms. James has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry was intense and the ending left me completely content, despite the fact that I cried when Luke explained his reason for being in Shadow Creek and was met with various reactions from Gwen and her family. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because readers discover how far Luke and Gwen have come in their relationship. Does Luke finally believe that love at first sight exists? I would highly recommend The Doctor's Redemption by Victoria James, if you enjoy a story with fun banter, wonderful characters in both the main and secondary, and a plot where the characters have some tough obstacles to overcome to be together. I would also recommend this book and the other stories of this series, if you enjoy books by authors Melanie Shawn, Noelle Adams, Jennifer Shirk or Samantha Chase. ...more

Of course, in her case she's referring to a customer that has visited her chocolate shop every day for the past few months, and though they don't talk beyond the basics of ordering and the routine good-bye wave, it's, sadly, been the most attention from a non-related man in a while, but she wished she could engage him in conversation. Gwen decides to host a speed dating night at the shop she owns with her best friend and sister-in-law, Lily (see book two, The Baby Bombshell, for her and Jack's story.), knowing she needs to either do something to see if the feeling is mutual or move on. She knows how precious life is, how temporary it can be, after losing her brother, Michael, and young nephew, Matthew.

Luke couldn't help noticing the gorgeous woman at the chocolate shop, but when he discovers who she is, he gets nervous. He knew the day would come when he'd cross paths with another member of the Bailey family, having already met Lily when he treated her for injuries. He's also disappointed, knowing he and Gwen can never be. She's off-limits because of who each of them are, and his part in her family's pain would destroy her. Yes, he wasn't officially at fault per the report, but it doesn't stop him from carrying the burden of responsibility.

When Luke and Gwen finally talk, she asks him out and Luke, albeit with the best of intentions, tries to make excuses, but inevitably hurts her feelings instead. Unable to let her believe he doesn't want her, he verbally woos her and then proceeds to kiss her. It's explosive and yet not enough at the same time. Unfortunately, due to the storm, her brother and brother-in-law decide to check on her, interrupting the hottest moment of her life.

Luke informs her nothing can come of it because he's not looking for a shared future again after losing his wife, nor is he staying in Shadow Creek as his time there is up in six months. After having their own version of speed dating and getting to know one another, Gwen is hurt when Luke seemingly walks away without any hesitation. But the best laid plans and all that...

Now it was her turn to be happy, loved, to have a meaningful relationship. She felt sorry for herself, unattractive, and was uncomfortable in her body. Yet her attraction to The Muffin Man gave her inspiration to do something about it, to change things, to pamper and focus on herself. There's a lot of gentle, delicious lustfulness in the story that had me smiling and sighing. Luke and Gwen are a great match, they are perfect for each other. They support each other, they share interests and are not afraid to voice an opposite opinion. I wasn't sure at the beginning if Gwen was actually attracted to Luke, or just to the feeling of falling in love, but those feelings are put to test and have to survive the fire.

Love, angst, joy and regrets are all mixed in and churning in the hearts and minds of the protagonists as they are working towards healing, a better, happier tomorrow. Atonement and forgiveness take time, time to mend and accept the past mistakes and casualties, but falling in love can change everything and it can happen in the blink of an eye.
A sweet, appealing, and alluring tale, a part three to the poignant and touching series that has won my heart over completely.

Told from dual perspective, Gwen and Luke (aka The Muffin Man) have an intriguing connection that neither can deny but a massive secret threatens to put a spanner in them finding happiness. Gwen is a young woman who, with a little help from her friends, is determined to embrace her life, including finding happiness and love with the sexy stranger that she can’t get out of her head. Luke is a sweet but troubled character who is in need of redemption after a tragic past but Gwen proves troublesome in his original plan as she worms her way into his heart.

The Doctor’s Redemption has a heavy emotional undertone but what I really liked is how when mixed with an insta-attraction and love, their relationship is steadily built up in a fitting way for the plot. For fans of the series, the curveball in this plot is definitely one you don’t see coming but added that something extra to make it an interesting read to watch how things played out. While heartache and tension are simmering along close to the surface throughout, be assured this can be read as a standalone with a HEA. The only niggle I had was that, while I was thrown by the plot in a good way, I felt torn because I liked where things were leading but it just felt like I wanted a little more after the reveal because it felt like not much happened after that; I still enjoyed the book but kept thinking more would come.

Victoria James is one of my go-to authors when I’m looking for something sweet but with enough spice and a good storyline to escape into for a few hours and this definitely ticks all those boxes! Definitely recommend.

This book is book three of the Shadow Creek, Montana series and while it could stand alone, one should REALLY read the first two books of the series for maximum impact. You should also read them because they are fabulous. All sex happens off-screen, and there is very minimal cursing and no f-bombs, so if you avoid books with those things in them you do not have to worry with this one.

I am fairly new to Ms. James' books but now that I have read a couple, I want to go back and consume everything she has ever written. After reading The Baby Bombshell, I was very anxiously awaiting this book and I am so glad to say that it not only didn't disappoint, it exceeded my expectations. I very stupidly started reading this one at 11:30pm, figuring to read for a half hour and get to sleep by midnight. Yeah, that didn't happen. At 1:30am I finally *forced* myself close my Kindle and go to bed, even though it killed me to stop reading. I was pretty sure that I knew who The Muffin Man was when I read Baby Bombshell, so I was excited to read this book and find out that I was right, but I'll be honest and admit that I did not even begin to consider what TMM's background story would be. That revelation dragged me into this book to the point where I finished it in 3 hours because I just couldn't stop reading until I got to the end of the story.

The Muffin Man/TTM (whose real name is Luke) and Gwen were perfect together. They had a mutual attraction to each other from the start, but while Gwen started to put herself out there to try and gain his attention, Luke kept his attraction to her firmly under wraps. Despite his outer cool shell, Luke's unexpected and uncharitable inner thoughts about Gwen's dear friend Ben made me snort-laugh and just reaffirmed his feelings for her. The crux of this story was the undeniable attraction and affection between Gwen and Luke. I couldn't get enough of the two of them together, and I found myself just wanting to hug them both. Gwen has lower self esteem (I LOVED the speech she got in the dressing room, oh my gosh) but she didn't stop trying and she was the kind of character that I love and could totally see myself being friends with.

This book made me tear up more than once. Luke trying to cope with his past was gut-wrenching, but it was also incredible and made me like him more than I already did. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a story that is incredibly well-written and surprisingly emotional but that isn't too heavy and has a beautiful, well-deserved happily ever after. The Doctor's Redemption is a sweet story about Gwen and Luke. Gwen is a strong heroine, who is used to caring for people. Luke is secretive, but so sexy.

This book made me anxious and hopeful. I really felt like we were watching Gwen grow and evolve as her life was going through changes. Luke needed her just as much as she needed him. Finally, Gwen gets her HEA! Such a twisted tale in this family. Love the small town atmosphere and all the love despite the tragedy. This is the third book of the series but stands well on it's own. Fans of the series will enjoy catching up with the previous couples.

Oh goodness! I loved the heavy emotion,the redemption, the finally feeling alive, the deep connection, and the family dynamic of this book. Gwen was such a strong beautiful woman with a heart equally the same. And Luke, I wanted to embrace him, was so broken and downtrodden. My heart felt for both characters.
