What they don’t know can’t hurt them…or can it?

In the year 2030, the government has seized control of healthcare. Routine treatment is administered to patients and monitored via in-home telemedicine. Hospitals have been replaced by Centers for Standardized Medicine (CSM). No one is a bigger proponent of the changes than reporter Cheyenne Rose, who lost her moth

It's interesting to read a doctor's fictional take on just how bad the future of medicine could be. This book is timely with the shifting medical landscape. Who should be in charge of medical decision making? Who should pay for it? I particularly enjoyed the medical advances the author imagined: "med screens" with actual people reminding patients to take their medicine, an MRI/laser combination with the ability to erase memories... I don't typically read thrillers and the last few chapters defin ...more

I loved this book! It had everything I look for in a good thriller: complex characters, unpredictable plot twists, and a threat that is made more frightening by being real enough to hijack my imagination. The story is heart pounding and complex but every character is well thought out. Everything comes together beautifully in the surprise ending. Now I'm just anxiously awaiting the sequel!!

The Healthcare System has crashed and the government has taken over. Now people are monitored in their homes, medicine is provided, and all care is ruled by the government. One of the biggest supporters is reporter Cheyenne Rose. But when a young boy goes in for a surgery and ends up dying from a simple procedure with the surgeon disappearing there has to be more to this story. So, Cheyenne decides to start digging into the real Centers for Standardized Medicine (CSM). But the more she digs into ...more

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Just finished the last 50 pages in a giant gulping rush! This is one of those novels where the author skillfully balances a dozen plot threads and just when you start wondering how in the world all of this will come together, it does. Believable characters and a chillingly realistic dystopian future for medicine make this a must-read. I found myself wondering how far are we, really, from a future where money is more important than humanity in healthcare?

4.5 stars. Physicians versus administrators versus the government...who should make medical decisions, and who gets to have care? How do financial considerations affect these choices? How bad can it get? This novel explores these questions thru the eyes of Cheyenne Rose, a TV journalist who is drawn into the story of one family and their medical saga. The book is fast moving and detailed, with plenty of twists and turns. A great medical drama!

Fantastic book!! I could not put it down - read it in 2 days. Absolutely recommend this futuristic medical thriller. It is a compelling mystery about a dystopian healthcare system gone wrong. The characters are fascinating and the story line is unpredictable. Extremely well-written.

Could not put it down! This futuristic view of the American Health System and what can happen to unsuspecting patients is fascinating and frightening at the same time. First time author Dr. Kristi Scruggs has a winner here with this thought provoking and timely thriller. This is a perfect book for book clubs as it sparks many questions.
