Behowl The Moon

"Now the hungry lion roars, And the wolf behowls the moon..." This beautiful book weaves a story of nighttime adventure and frolic using Puck's lines from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Act 5.2. Fairies and animals caper through the moonlit countryside through park and pale, over hill and over dale, before they all settle in for a long, peaceful sleep. The perfect bedtime story for small Shakespeare fans and their parents.

As I was reading this to my toddler, I thought, "Oh man, this is going to be a bust." To my great surprise, he loves it. The language is complicated, because it's Shakespeare, but it's also sort of beautiful...even if I'm not really sure what is going on, haha. My son is really interested in all things "spooky" right now, so the illustrations in this one really appeal to him.

This charming book, written and illustrated to introduce children (and some adults) to Shakespeare, is a magical delight. The book is well-constructed to hold up to young hands. The illustrations are simply marvelous. Highly recommended to parents and Shakespeare aficionados.

What a delightful bedtime book! It offers plenty opportunities for animal noises and gestures, and you (or your kiddo) will notice something new in the illustrations each time.

This book manages to be literary, creepy, and delightful all at once. Lines from A Midsummer Night’s Dream are set to pictures of animals, spirits, and witches on a nighttime adventure, ending with everyone settling down to sleep in a board book.
