I longed so hard for all the things that make life life, and I never thought they'd be mine. But now ... now they are. Now I have something to lose.

Seren and Dom have fled their old lives on board spaceship Ventura in order to be together. They crash-land on a beautiful, uninhabited planet, which at first seems like paradise.

There is no one to answer to ... but no one to a

(I received an advance copy of this book for free. Thanks to Hachette Children's Group and NetGalley.)

This was a YA sci-fi story about survival on an alien planet.

Seren was an okay character, although she did irritate me with her assumptions at times. Having a big strop because she found out that her boyfriend had had a previous relationship seemed a little over the top to me, and she really needed to get her priorities straight.

The storyline in this was about Seren, Dom, Mariana, and Ezra tryi

I really enjoyed The Loneliness of Distant Beings and so I was intrigued to find out what lay in store for our castaways after living their entire lives until now travelling through space with no hope of ever setting foot on land. While I’m allergic to romance I actually thought the forbidden romance between Seren and Dom in the first book was adorable.

Imagine my surprise when after the initial awe of exploring this unknown land along with Seren, Dom and their companions I wound up bored. I wou

DIES IST DER ZWEITE BAND EINER DILOGIE, WESHALB ICH IN MEINER REZENSION SPOILER NICHT AUSSCHLIEßEN KANN ! WEITERLESEN ALSO AUF EIGENE GEFAHR !

The Loneliness of Distant Beings was one of my favourite books last year, so I was really looking forward to the sequel.

Seren, Dom, Ezra and Mari crash-landed after escaping the Ventura. The planet they're on is hostile, the weather on the island is unpredictable, and unknown danger is everywhere. But Seren and Dom are together, and that's all that counts.

Until things get so bad they have to leave the island and go searching for the mainland. Where they stumble into a bunch of secrets too close

This book was one of my most anticipated book releases of 2017. I remember finding out that there would be a sequel to 'the Loneliness of Distant Beings', which involved a big gasp and a happy dance.
Of course my copy arrived during my week-long trip to Scotland, which made the anticipation even bigger. I saw a copy lying in Waterstones in Edinburgh and I just wanted to start reading it, but I knew my copy was waiting for me at home. *Major self-control*
This is also one of those books that makes

I loved The Loneliness of Distant Beings, the first book in the Ventura saga for its spaceship-setting and the strange and proscriptive society Kate Ling created for her characters to rail against. With Soren and Dom escaping Ventura at the end of the first book, I was concerned that there was no way to follow up all that drama and excitement. There was no need to worry. In The Glow of Fallen Stars, Ling has created the perfect follow-up; having landed on the planet of Huxley-3, Seren, Dom, Ezra

The Glow of Fallen Stars picks up moments after the mind-blowing finale of the first book and so you do have to read them in the right order to be able to keep up. Lovebirds Seren and Dom, alongside Mariana and Ezra, have managed to safely escape the confines of their space sip Ventura and have landed on the planet they've admired from afar for so long: Huxley.

But a safe landing was only the very beginning of their treache

Der Schauplat ...more

If you're here and haven't read The Loneliness of Distant Beings, get out of here! Check out that review and pick up the first book in the Ventura saga before you come back here, because MAJOR SPOILERS abound, my friends.

Let's wind back a little bit to Distant Beings -- this was a science fiction YA firmly rooted in the idea of making sacrifices for humanity, sacrifices you'd never reap the benefits of and the implications that can have for individual mental health. It's a topic that has popped

The adVentura continues with the second book of this carefully constructed trilogy, wherein author Kate Ling takes us on a journey into yet another dimension; with a few liberally sprinkled plot twists and turns along the way. Fans of the first book are able to follow the four main characters as they navigate a 'new world' which they enter through a combination of rebellion, determination and a thirst for exploration. Underpinning this, is the love story that makes us revisit the good old fashio ...more

Wow! I thought the first book was great, and usually with trilogies, the second book tends to just drag out ideas set out in the first. Not so in this case. From start to finish, the reader is hurtled through an abundance of twists and turns as Seren and company take on the challenges that are thrown at them upon arriving on Huxley 3. The characters grow in maturity and lose the idealism of youth as they learn that not all that glows is what it seems. I read this book extremely quickly, testamen ...more

Beautifully written, gripping, moving and underpinned by optimism about human beings. The central character is a flawed, feisty, brave and remarkable young woman who I would love to meet. Highly recommended.

Having loved The Loneliness of Distant Beings I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the Ventura Saga - it doesn’t disappoint. Huxley-3, a challenging environment, is beautifully depicted as the characters come to terms with their new home. The story moves quickly and the unpredictable twists in the plot kept me hooked. The links back to Ventura and the impact of newer technology in space travel develops the saga in brilliant and unexpected ways. This is one of my favourite books this ...more

This was my most anticipated read of 2017 after I fell in love with the first book in the trilogy last year. It had a lot to live up to, which is why so many middle books I’ve read have been a bit of a disappointment. Not this time, though. I am so bloomin’ pleased to report that The Glow of Fallen Stars is amazing.
