My Book Club's latest selection...I don't have much to say about it except if you love Hallmarky books that are written on about a 5th grade reading level with characterization that reads, "But with eyes like that, Rain never blended into the crowd.", then you'll love it.

jadi begini para rekan durjana tercinta, menurut seorang durjanawanwati ini buku ide-nya bagus, sayangnya eksekusi gak terlalu bagus, ceritanya terlalu datar buat sang durjanawanwati.

Talk about a made-for-tv movie to be featured on the Lifetime channel! Not my cup of tea---too cheesy and Hallmark-y (is that a word?). You could just hear the violin music playing in the background of this one. Yeah, it was a good, clean, easy read, and offered a good lesson on forgiveness and how we should be slow to judge others because we don't know their whole story, but SO much of it was too dramatized. The little plot shocker at the end of the story was too "YEAH RIGHT,(w/ eye roll)" for ...more

One more for the "best read" group ---

'pergi duluan'.

********If you liked the book, don't read this********
Funny thing, this story echoed my own experience,
you see before my husband Benjamin and I got married, we dated in High school, then when I refused to put out Benjamin ran away to central america for two years, where, despite frequent attepts on his virtue, which he carefully chronicled in letters sent to me every wednesday, he remained as pure as the driven snow just as he had left (you know, like most juvenile delinquents). Except of cour

While reading the reviews on this book, I was so excited to open and read. However, this book was NOT what I was expecting. I feel like the author was trying to hard to produce another acclaimed novel with a Title that entices, but failed to deliver. The adolescent verbage used by the characters cheapened the novel a bit. I would not have titled this book The Wednesday Letters due to the fact that the letters, although an integral part of the book, was not what the book was about.

I am a sucker for books that include lots of letters. In this one, the letters are key to the story but don’t dominate the narrative. The undertone of faith and forgiveness is very clear and makes everything fall together beautifully.

This was one of the stupidest books I have ever read. Well, to be honest, it was so poorly written that I could not do much more than skim it. If you want a book about forgiveness and redemption, or choices for goodness sake, read East of Eden or Crime and Punishment or something worthwhile. Had it been merely "cutesy" or stupid, I would say, yeah, go ahead and read it. SPOILER: The problem, however, was that this MALE author suggested that his female fictional character believed God had sent a ...more

This book attracted me because I'm a sucker for any book that involves letters. I've read a couple of others recently that I've enjoyed. Maybe one star is a bit harsh for this. I did finish it after all. But, there were a couple of moments that I considered not doing so. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that the book was short and there was a mystery element, so I figured I might as well hang around and see what happened. I'm surprised this is a NYT bestseller. It is not, in my opi ...more

This is a story of adult children who come home to bury their parents and find boxes of letters their father had written to their mother every Wednesday during their 39 years of marriage. Lots of secrets and lots of truths and how faith and forgiveness are the lessons good parents teach their children at any age. It reads fast and I cried.

This was a sappy little sad book about a couple that dies on the same day. The husband writes love letters to his wife every Wednesday. It was a little boring I had to force myself to finish this book. I guess this book was not what I expected.

I just finished this book. It was okay. I read a lot of reviews on Amazon about it saying they didn't care for the preachy, conservative-Christian viewpoint it touted. I didn't see an overbearing theme like that come across at all, and I was surprised that so many reviewers didn't care for the book for that reason. All the choices and reactions of the characters felt genuine, and while to some the choice of the main characters' mother may have seemed "ultra-conservative," I thought it was sincer ...more

I don't even know what to say. This was BAD. How is this not marked as Christian literature? And by that, I mean TERRIBLE Christian lit! There are so many things wrong with this book. I don't think I feel like discussing all of them. But a few stick out like sore thumbs. 1) There was ZERO character development. 2) Everything that happens is told rather than shown. 3) Christian references were used as a crutch to explain away bad things that happened to this family. It was like reading an instruc ...more

Forgiveness is the purpose of this feel-good novel about a young man who comes home to find his parents dead in each other's arms. Malcolm Cooper is on the run for assaulting two men in a dark alley one night. After years of losing himself in the Amazon jungle, he is notified that his parents have passed away and Malcom must decide if he will come to their funeral and risk being arrested, or stay in Brazil to avoid facing his lost love, Rain.

When Malcolm finds the courage to make the trip, he an

Okay, I like this book but I have some problems with it. I was really hoping for a feel good story and it was kind of disappointing. I liked the idea of the Wednesday letters. It is sweet to think that a husband would do this. I like the idea of redemption that is discussed in the story but it really bothers me when LDS authors don't just make their characters LDS! I mean what is the big deal? It wouldn't be like they would have to explain everything about our faith but if you're going to have c ...more

I know there are evidently a bunch of people out there who will beg to differ since this is a NY Times Bestseller......but REALLY??!! I found this book to be poorly written and predictable. Ok. This received solid three stars from many of my friends. What? By the end of this relatively short book I couldn't wait for it to be over. Melodramatic, Sentimental and Condescending. All at once, folks. If I couldn't handle this at Christmastime, there's no way I would have ever liked it. Plus, the audio had all the feel of a stake conference talk. I like stake conference okay, I just want my book to have some reality to it. This was just too moralistic. You don't have to give something thr ...more

The story was pretty good. A good plot anyway. The writer on the other hand was kind of jumpy to me and didn't fill in all the details that needed to be in the story to really draw you in. Sometimes I had to guess with details about the charaters and even about half the conversations left me wondering because they didn't quite seem complete.
