Mary Crawford has been lucky enough to live her own version of a romance novel. She’s married to the guy who kissed her at summer camp. He told her on the night they met that he was going to marry her and be the father of their children. Eventually, she stopped giggling when he said it and he had the last laugh as they celebrate three decades of marriage.
They have two children. The oldest is a Doctor of Osteopathy. He is across the United States completing his residency, but when he’s done, he is going to come back to Oregon and practice Family Medicine. Their youngest son is in high school and hopes to be an EMT when he grows up.
Mrs. Crawford writes full time now. She has written and published over thirty books and has several more underway.
She volunteers her time to a variety of causes and has worked as a Civil Rights Attorney and diversity advocate. Mrs. Crawford spent many years working for various social service agencies before becoming an attorney.
In her spare time, she loves to cook, decorate cakes and of course, obsessively, compulsively read.
I was given this ARC for an honest review. I chose to review this book due to the fact that myself had postpartum depression. The facts were correct and yes it was a clean book. I had trouble keeping my attention trained on this book however. It could be because it was a first person book and I have difficulty relating to books that are written that way. The book was not bad in its self. I just found it confusing and not sure where I was at times.
When Tayanita receives a cold call regarding buying vinyl siding, neither her or the caller, John, expected it to turn into a help assistance call. Both were having trouble coming to terms regarding their pasts, John because of his blindness and Tayanita because of the choices she made when she was younger. Come take their journey through obstacles to find love and happiness.
I was so captivated with this beautiful story. I was so in touch with the characters and how they had learned to overcome their physical and emotional disabilities and move forward. Some even had a second chance at love. Ketki is a 13 year old who is autistic. She is very intelligent in the real world as well as in the technology field. I loved her attitude and humour as a teenager. Tayanita suffered from postpartum depression. She thought for her family's safety, it was better for her to walk out of her daughter and her husbands life. Who would guess out of her loneliness, that one phone call from a stranger about purchasing vinyl siding would change her world forever. Lieutenant Commander John Ashford was a former Coast Guard rescue chopper pilot. While on a rescue mission, he had a freak accident that almost cost him his life. Will Nita be able to deal with his secret caused by the accident? I would definitely recommend this amazing book, Rectify as well as the series. It can be a standalone. I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.
It’s about time we get Tayanita’s story, as we’ve not seen ‘her side’ yet, even though followers of Crawford may know the name. She’s not the monster she may have come off as at all, so it’s only fair.
I’ve read several of Crawford’s books over the last couple of years, and I think I said this before, but there’s definite improvement in her style, the more she writes. For that, I have to give a big thumbs up! She has a knack for developing likable, yet complicated characters - that means one of my favorite things to read: drama.
Once I was about halfway through, I realized I was missing it when I put it down and had a need to know more - so she succeeded in sucking me in. The continuity issues and timing questions at time distract me - not too drastically, but enough to make me briefly pause. I’d give the overall experience 4 to 4.5 stars for sucking me in, but then I’d deduct one for the continuity issues that. Overall, that puts me at around 3.5.
Looking forward to advancing in this series with Ketki’s story and beyond.
I read these out of order. I read rectify before tough. But wow just wow. It's been a long time since a book has made me do an ugly cry.. and while at work to boot!! I have to say these last two ( tough and rectify) have been my favourite so far!! I love that Mary touches on many different disabilities in life , whether they be physical, mental or emotional, and basically draws you a map in words so precise and in depth and most of all REAL!!! Life is rough and the things we all experience all are but her characters feel so real to me I forget I'm reading a novel. I feel as I'm with a friend experiencing these trails and speed bumps in life. I hope there is a follow up book on Ketki!! Love love love
Post partum depression is really scary. In this story we learn about the different levels and layers of it and how it can destroy a family. Not just the mom's struggle but also the husband and child's. If you have read the series in order you get pieces of it and then this is how it still affects the mom 13 years later.
We also learn about disabilities as they can occur due to a job. Nothing is sugar coated and we learn about acceptance and sharing the pain.
Such a great series! Many differences are shown and how humans go about accepting is the key~
You got to read this book. I touch my heart. As you read this book, you will know what I mean. I fell in Love with each one of these Characters. She brought these characters to Life. Not, giving anything away, I can't really say to much about these Characters, but you Got to Read This Book. If, you don't you will be missing out on a Great Book. I couldn't put this book down. A Must Read
Knowing this character from previous books I was worried about being able to get into a frame of mind to actually like her character and root for good things. I tend to take the things that happen in my book worlds very seriously and personally. However, I enjoyed this one. It did a really good job of keeping the family together while adding to it. The aspect of blindness was a unique and well done addition.
I enjoyed reading this book. I love the fact that it talks about subjects that others may be afraid to talk about. Although I probably should have started this series at the beginning rather than at book 6. I will definitely have to check out the others.
I loved this book, great story about second chances in life. Definitely recommend reading Mary Crawford's books in order because its nice to be able to relate all the characters.
Tayanita ran from her problems. John is stuck in the middle of his. A chance phone call ignites an attraction they cannot deny, and fills the empty parts in their hearts and lives. Overcoming their difficulties may just take two.
Each story in this series is unique and stand alone. However to me part of the joy of reading them is the interwoven characters and the focus on dealing with disability challenges.
This was very well written. I loved that the main characters were different. The different dealings with mental illnes, blindness and autism and the realness of the characters was amazing. Everyone should read this book.
Rectify is a beautifully woven tale of damaged souls finding help and healing together. I enjoyed the character evolvement and interaction. This was a most enjoyable read.
This was another beaut story in the series. I liked that she was able to deal with her feelings of walking away from her ex husband and baby instead of hurting het.
Again, I find myself writing a review for one of Mary Crawford's Hidden Heart Novels, this time Rectify. Despite being far outside of Crawford's probably demographic for her books, I have found myself captivated and enchanted by her sweet, stories that focus on characters that are flawed and/or challenged in some way physically or mentally. She reminds us that we all have our pasts and we all have our crosses to carry, but that doesn't mean we can not find true love and true happiness. As I've said in the past, I seem to have somehow wound up as one of Crawford's beta reader team and that's absolutely fine from my perspective. Her books are easy to read and very enjoyable interludes in a literary world of violence, terror, and horror. Crawford's books are romances with "real" characters and that's what I most enjoy about her writing. Fans of Crawford's work will be well aware that most of her stories revolve around a loose group of friends and families, who have in common the tattoo business Inked'N. Rectify is no exception, with the main character being Tayanita, former wife of Mark and mother of the autistic and incredibly talented (now a teenager) Ketki. In a serious bout of Post Partum Depression, Tayanita chose to walk away from her marriage to Mark and baby Ketki, rather than face the possibility that she may harm either herself or Ketki. She has been extremely successful at rebuilding her professional life, as a Scrub Nurse Supervisor, but no so much her personal life. She hates herself for what she did to Mark and Ketki, all those years ago and envisages a life spent on her own. Enter john, a former Coast Guard Rescue Chopper Pilot whose sight was taken from him in an unfortunate workplace accident. Can John help her rediscover the love Tayanita has been denying herself all these years? This is a fantastic story, well-written, as always by Crawford and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who loves romance and especially romance with a hard edge and a message. Five stars from this reviewer for yet another Hidden Heart triumph from Crawford. Keep 'em coming, Mary. They never fail to lift my day.
