Freya Coleman is a struggling artist who can hardly get by. With a past she would rather not revisit and a future that didn't extend past her next cup of coffee, something had to change. Freya just didn't know how much.

Liam Henderson lives in the spotlight. His wild nights and latest conquests make every woman want him, and every man wants to be him. The rockstar has a carefully constructed persona to keep everyone out. That is, until a drunken night gets out of hand and he finds himself with the winning hand in a poker game, and the prize is a feisty redhead. A prize who just might break down the walls he has been so desperately hiding behind.

Thrown together, these two are a disaster waiting to happen. A disaster the world is eager to watch and comment on until their fingers drop off. What starts off as a fake relationship to improve Liam’s image, blossoms into so much more, and Freya is swept up into the world of bright lights and illusions. Everyone has an opinion when the lights are shining on their beloved rock god Liam Henderson, and they are eagerly waiting to tear down anyone who is bathed in the famous glow.

Can happily ever after exist when the whole world is watching?

"Beastly Lights is the perfect book. I LOVED the ending, though I hope this isn't the last we see of Freya and Liam. I think this is the best book I've ever read, I la la loved it." - Sylvia R

"THIS BOOK GETS REAL! My heart ached at times and raced at times. I cried, I laughed, I got angry, I got excited. It truly had ALL the feels. The mischief that Freya stirs up when she first arrives at Liam's penthouse is laugh out loud funny. I highly recommend this one!" - Maya S.

I'm gonna keep this one short and sweet. Hopefully. Liam was a famous rock star who was extremely adept at manipulation Freya. He got her to be his maid, to move in with him, to pretend to date him, and to eventually be his real girlfriend. He was selfish, arrogant and self-entitled. But that was to be expected because he was rich and famous and a huge party lover and predominantly promiscuous. Freya helped to calm him but didn't feel like she got much out of the deal. She had a hard time accepting his stardom.

There's some character depth and an interesting plot. I just couldn't connect with the story. I didn't like Freya. She was immature, irrational, ungracious and ungrateful. All 3 stars go to Liam. He showed the most growth and I can appreciate how much the author put into his characterization. He was easy to like and I only wish that this book had more of his POV. Oh Davis was a sweetheart that I was happy to meet as well!

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:
Heroine (Freya): 20s?
Hero (Liam): 28yrs old
Plot: 3/5
Grovel: pretty good
Cheating: none
HEA: yes with pregnancy
Triggers: none

Average score: 3/5

Best Line: “You can’t buy my forgiveness.”

Worst Line: so many just from the first few chapters:

“how anyone could fall in love with a man whose hairline was already receding at twenty-five is beyond me.”

And

“I stole the coffee from Mason anyway.”

And

“All I wanted was to steal twenty dollars from his wallet, and instead I got an unwanted job”

Personal Review:
A pretty good romance from a new author. It took a while for the heroine to grow on me because I did not like her at all in the beginning. I did like the hero’s grovel action but did become disappointed in some of his behaviour.

Random Ramblings
•Just as I was starting to like the heroine she goes and makes a shallow and bitchy comment
•And then she goes and steals from her brother….after breaking into his home

•The blurb was misleading as I read it believing it stated that Liam randomly won the prize of having Freya as a maid when in fact he was the one who initiated it and suggested that she should be a prize in the first place. Here’s the bit of the blurb:

“That is, until a drunken night gets out of hand and he finds himself with the winning hand in a poker game, and the prize is a feisty redhead.”

•It was harsh that the adoption didn’t go through
•Davis was a sweetie
•I was grateful that the author didn’t subject me to the typical visions of a rockstar manwhore
•The articles were repetitive and annoying
•I’m pleased they waited to have sex
•I seriously don’t get why authors do an epilogue in the future without showing any actual progress like having kids or getting married. It’s a waste, in my opinion, to have the story ending with a proposal or a pregnancy. It is like setting up a joke but then not finishing it…I NEED CLOSURE!!

Overall Feeling:

Great Book. I think deep down we all wonder what it would be like to be famous, and Theresa Jane has done a wonderful job with this story. Not only has she written a very entertaining story, but has really hit the mark with two great characters. Things weren’t looking great for Freya when her only friend Darla was too busy to see her, and her art work wasn’t receiving any interest in the art world. Since she didn’t have a job, and living from day to day depended on selling her art, that was a major problem. Which was why she found herself in her brothers apartment looking for some cash. Mason was an Accountant, and he tended to have money, which he reluctantly helped her out from time to time. Freya was quite embarrassed when she walked in on a card game in Mason’s place, to be confronted with Liam Henderson, the gorgeous rock star. She was even more horrified when Mason used her as a bargaining chip in a bet. If he lost then Freya would become Liam’s new house maid, and of course that is exactly what happened. Now she felt compelled to save Mason’s job and carry out what she thought would be a ghastly job. However what Freya finds is that Liam is a much more complex man than she first thought, and he certainly has insecurities just like any other normal person. Liam thought that everyone he came into contact with only wanted to be with him because he was famous, and it was hard to let anyone get close to him. It’s going to be incredibly hard for Freya not to fall for him. I quite like the Authors writing style, and her ability to keep me interested throughout the story. I especially enjoyed the beginning of the story, being introduced to Freya. Her and Liam aren’t perfect and they are both a little bit damaged, which I believe always makes for a better novel. All in all a very satisfying read, which I would certainly recommend.

Freya Coleman is a struggling artist in the big city mostly left to fend for herself. Her brother too lives in the same city but they do not have a very good relationship as such she turns to him in only the direst situations. On one such night she finds herself being gambled away by her drunken brother to none other than Liam Henderson, the rockstar. Liam is known as a wild playboy who likes to party. When the worlds of these to collide; there is bound to be some fireworks. But the question is whether they will be able to overcome their own burdens and find their way to each other with the whole world watching and commenting?

Freya and Liam’s relationship was dysfunctional from the very beginning. Liam is quite a self-obsessed man with a sad past. Freya knows what harm alcoholism can cause not only to the one who drinks but also to the people around them, yet she keeps trying to change things hoping for a different outcome every time… whether it is with her father or her brother or Liam. Having witnessed the evil that alcoholism is closely, I know how difficult it can be for the people around. I failed to understand how Freya could even take a chance with Liam after witnessing her father and brother. I guess she is on the opposite pole end from me when it comes down to reacting to something. In any case, I could understand, to a point, what she was trying to do. But her strength shone through when she took the difficult decision of putting herself first. I really liked her when she realizes that she had given enough and it was her turn to live for herself.

I did enjoy the overall plot line of the story even though it didn’t surprise me at any point. The author’s narrative style is simple and language is dainty. It is really easy to get into the story because of it. The supporting characters were interesting too. I loved Anthony, Ryan, Jarred, Lucinda and the sweetheart Davis. My cribbing point with the book is that the author has shown enough of the ‘problem’ but nothing on how they tackled the problem. Freya’s father just turns up sober and gets her brother some help and Liam too cleans himself up while she was away. It was too easy and convenient. Real life is harder messier than this.

Overall, it is certainly worth a one-time read.

If you love a good romance story with endearing characters than you should pick up a copy of this book. Liam came off as the perfect gentleman. In fact, he was almost too perfect that you had to wonder if he was real. Luckily, he was the real deal. Freya was very lucky to have Liam. Although, it may not have seemed like it in the beginning. I loved how Liam instantly came to Freya's side and became her protector. After getting to hear Freya's story about her childhood, she needed someone to protect her. Sometimes I don't like when the woman comes off as weak but in this case, it worked. Actually, I would not really call Freya "weak" but more like fragile. She has had to take care of herself for so long that it was nice to see Liam take over and care for Freya. Every time that Liam called Freya's name, I felt the love.

This book just goes to show you that there is more to romance then just "sex". There is the matter of the heart as well. In Liam and Freya's case it was a love story. Yet, it is Liam singing and not just because he is the musician. That is because Freya can't carry a tune. If you asked Liam, he would agree. Theresa Jane scores a hit with Beastly Lights as it is a wonderful read filled with endearing characters!

One of the greatest things in life is finding a book, in which you become so utterly and completly absorbed in the story line and the characters that you cannnot put it down. Beastly Lights is one of those books. I absolutely loved it. I found the authors writing style engaging. She made it so easy to fall in love with the characters and their stories. I loved the character of Freya, I found her to be so relatable that you felt like you were reading the story through her eyes, experiencing her life right alongside her.

Beastly lights made you laugh and cry, it takes you on the most amazing journey with two characters who you will be completly emotionally invested in by the time you reach the last page.

I cannot wait to see what Theresa Jane has in store next.

I love reading a story about a sexy rockstar and when I had a chance to read Beastly Lights I was enthralled with the storyline. It didn't take me long to become completely engrossed and I have to say that Theresa Jane threw me for a loop that this was unlike any rockstar story I have read before. Beastly Lights kept me up reading until the wee hours of the morning. It is a "can't-put-down" kind of story.

Here is why...
Freya Coleman is a starving artist living in New York and when I say starving, she is at the point where she is breaking into her brother's apartment to "borrow" $20 just so she can eat. Unfortunately, she walks into her brother's poker game night where he is hosting none other than the famous Liam Henderson, rocker-badboy-extraordinaire. When a bet goes bad, Freya finds herself on the losing side where she is now in the services, maid services, of said badboy.
Where this story may seem far-fetched and an author could have left gaping plot holes, Theresa Jane covers every inch and you won't be disappointed as to why or how Freya ends up in the hands of Liam, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Once Freya ends up at Liam's home she vaguely wonders why she was even hired as a maid, since it appears that Liam is a complete neat freak. His home is stark white and bordering on OCD tendencies on how, where, and when things should be done.
This is where the story really grabs hold of you and you won't be able to put it down, but I'll let you decide that for yourself.
Freya is an artist. She's messy and she sees his stark white, orderly apartment as a challenge. On top of that, she detests Liam. She hates his partying. She hates that he treats her like the help, even though she is, she still hates it. She pushes back on everything he does and doesn't back down. Her inner monologue is hilarious. Her conversations with Liam are also chuckle worthy. I love every time she gives him hell.

Beastly Lights is told entirely in first person POV from Freya's perspective, but Theresa Jane does an amazing job of filling in the holes of letting you know just what is happening around Freya.
In any story told from this type of perspective well written secondary characters are integral in filling in all the holes or potential gaps. You need them so you know what the other main character could be thinking since we never get an actual look inside their actual thoughts or feelings. Theresa Jane did a great job at building a world around Freya and helping her figure out the badboy Liam. I fell in love with everyone who came into Freya's life just as much as I did with the main characters. The little four year old, Davis, is Freya's ally and hates Liam more than anyone should for just being four years old. Yet, he's the most adorable thing you could possibly read. Liam detests him because unlike the rest of the world who adores him and fawns all over him, Davis doesn't. Every time Liam and Davis interacted I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

This isn't like other rockstar stories, in that the first half of the story is centered on the living arrangement, where Freya is Liam's maid, and how she detests his very existence. The second half of the story you do delve a little deeper into the life of an actual rockstar, when Liam goes on tour and their relationship has evolved into something more, yet it's complicated, but I'll let you enjoy discovering it.

Trust me, you will love this book.

I've been in a book slump, real critical, hard to get into, tired of the same old thing. So when I picked up this rock star book I had the plot in my head already and figured I'd be bored as well.
Boy was I wrong. This book is out there, the plot is different. You are constantly left asking "what? Why? Did that just happen?" And wondering who is the bigger a$$in Freya's life.
Each of the characters is well described in built in a way you feel you know them good and bad. Not just Liam and Freya but also Mason, Lucy, Ant,Ryan, Davis etc.
it's a long story that is so deeply involved you never get bored. It's hard to put down and do adult stuff. With each new chapter is a new development.
The story though having adult issues (drinking/partying) is sexually clean and could be read by an older teenager.
If I had to pick a downfall it's the epilogue, I'm not a huge fan of wrapping everything in a neat tidy bow at the end.

I am voluntarily reviewing Beastly Lights by Theresa Jane after receiving an Advanced Reader Copy.

OMG What an emotional rollercoaster. You will laugh and cry and be angry with all the men in her life. I think the only one who truly loved her without an agenda was Davis. OK maybe his agenda was getting her to make cookies with him (he was only 4) but at least she knew where she stood with him on every level and it was without condition or force.

To be lost in a bet by your brother to a self centered, arrogant rock star and then forces to be his girlfriend. Then being stalked and almost killed and no one is ever there for you when you really need them. Their relationship grows more each day but neither is willing to admit their feelings. They are always one word away from nuclear explosion and each day she loses more of herself and doesn't know who she is anymore. Can they repair their relationship or is her finally disappearing in the night the best thing that can happen? Can she repair the relationship with her dad and brother or does she even want to?

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I’m going to give this book the benefit of the doubt. I’ll admit, when I picked up Beastly Lights by Theresa Jane, I didn’t immediately like the main characters, particularly Freya. My first impression of her was that she was jaded, pessimistic and a bit of a complainer. The way she narrated the story made it seem as if she was generally unhappy and unkind to those around her, often making negative in-head comments about her friends and relatives. It didn’t put this book off to a great start.

The main male lead, Liam, wasn’t much better. He was constantly drunk, jaded, and pretty much treated all his friends (and Freya) like trash. In fact, a lot of the characters were not only imperfect, but downright awful people, and it was hard to get past that for the first couple of chapters.

But (and that’s a big but), the story improved. As the story continued I found myself enjoying the stubbornness of Freya and the little disputes between here and Liam. There were moments when I genuinely laughed at her strange snarky comments and the way she handled Liam’s off-putting manner. This was a character, that although heavily flawed and marked by her past, was more than willing to stand up for herself and challenge the people around her. She didn’t let this rock star walk all over her. Freya didn’t bend for anyone—and not only did she not bend, she often pushed back. Over time, I grew to really enjoy her character and the dynamic relationship between her and Liam.

Although there wasn’t actually much maid-work going on throughout the story (make no mistake, that part of the plot was quickly dropped), the overall story was very reminiscent of some Korean drama’s I’ve seen. It was an interesting mix of dark drama, light-hearted comedy, and a bit of a power war between the main couple that made it really fun and interesting.

Although the book wasn’t a straight home-run for me—there were definitely some parts of the story that I felt could have used a little more polish, or at least been a little less obvious—I do think this was a promising start from a new author, and I ended up really enjoying it overall. I only ran into a few typos (not bad for an ARC), and I think overall, I enjoyed the book. If you’re interested in a fun contemporary read with a dynamic relationship at its core, I think you’ll probably really enjoy Beastly Lights.

The basic plot of the story was good but it took a looonnng time to get there. When it said 800+ pages I figured there must be a bonus book in there too (which is pretty common) but no. 50 (mostly long) chapters is no joke. There could be a lot of editing for content. There were some parts that just couldn't keep my attention and I put this book down many times and then it was hard to get back into.

It's really hard to like a book when I don't like the main character. Freya is a petulant brat that has to have it her way or she acts out like a child. She knows that Liam is a neat freak, bordering on OCD, so she moves stuff around and messes stuff up on purpose. She rudely paints a huge mural on his wall and gets paint everywhere without even a second thought. Not very endearing to me. Usually when a book is told entirely from one character's POV you usually have more empathy for that character but in this case it made me hate Freya even more.

The most annoying thing to me was that 90% of the dialogue was either 'grumbled' or 'muttered.' The rest was 'growled,' 'murmered,' or 'spat.' Apparently no one speaks clearly in this world. It made things dark, angry, and really frustrated me as a reader. It really bothers me when writers use the same words over and over but it is worse when it's how people talk.

If this wasn't an *Exculsive ARC* offered to me I would've stopped reading around chapter 14.

So much more than I expected

I went into this book with extremely low expectations. I thought it would be just like any other romance story, one that disappointed me with its flat characters and unconvincing romance but man, if I wasn't mistaken. This story started one way, with me only being slightly invested in the characters in the beginning to me not wanting to stop nearly 30% through. I laughed, I cried, I ran a full gamot of emotions reading this novel. I found myself loving Freya and Liam but also becoming insanely attached to all of the side characters, well except for Jeb but he sucked. I spent a good portion of the book wishing they could be the happy family they all deserved to be and am so, so glad they were able to. I would recommend this book to everyone I know that's even remotely into romance and I cannot wait to see what else this author is capable of.

We meet struggling artist Freya Coleman who hardly has a penny to her name. Now and again her brother Mason who is a accountant will send some money her way but they haven't the closest of relationships. Freya has had a rough childhood and has seen things that a child shouldn't have to. Freya is at a low point and her friend cant meet her so she finds herself breaking into her brothers apartment to 'borrow' £20 off him its not like that he is going to miss the money all Freya wants is something hot to eat and drink. The only money Freya gets is by selling her art work.

Freya manages to get into her brother's apartment and gets the shock of her life when she walks in and see's that Mason is holding a poker game and one of the guests at the poker game is rock God and the drop dead gorgeous Liam Henderson playing poker with her brother. Mason is a bit of a flashy prick and ends up using Freya as a bargain chip in the next game of poker that they play. If Mason loses he must hand over his sister to Liam where she will become his housemaid for a whole month and if his hand wins then Freya stays where she is but of course this isn't the case as Mason loses his hand and hands his sister over to Liam for her to become his housemaid.

Liam has a reputation for being a wild party animal and isn't bothered by sleeping with a groupie now and then after all that is one of the perks of being a rock star. Liam also likes a drink or two. As soon as Freya arrives at Liam's apartment she is left a little confused as Liam's place is absolutely spotless so why on earth does he need a housemaid?. As Liam and Freya they begin to get to know each other and Freya begins to see the act that Liam puts on and the walls he has built around him as he feels nobody wants to know the real Liam Henderson just the rock star side of him.

Will Liam be able to finally let down his walls to this beautiful girl and see that she doesn't care about Liam the rock star she likes the real Liam or will it just be things go back to normal for the two of them once the deal has been done.

Feel the love

I'm an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock.

Liam seams to be a sweet heart... It never works... But Liam's life has to change... When he goes to a poker game and wins a maid his life changes for the best... Freya thinks her!ife is over... Her brother loses her in a poker game to be some rock stars maid.... What does she know about being a maid? NOTHING.... except making the mess in the first place.... Freya is a sweet woman... When she moves into Liam's apartment she think her life has ended... That it could not get any worse... But she is wrong... It is the answer to her prayers.... Laim and Freya are a sweet couple.... In the words of Thumper...

It was the character of Thumper from the "Bambi" who said (albeit ungrammatically) " If you can't say anything nice, don't say nothin' at all." Well, there are some nice things I can say about this book, but they are few. The basic premise is the stuff of storybooks: rich, gorgeous rock star meets ordinary girl and falls for her, in spite of, or perhaps because of, her disdain for him. Okay, artistic license. Go with the premise, regardless of how farfetched. But what follows is hundreds of pages of shrill, endless quarrels among shrill, shallow, self-absorbed characters, none of whom is interesting or even likeable. The author is in serious need of a good editor. So often, her prose is clumsy and gratingly repetitious. I did read the entire, overlong book so I could review it in good conscience, and feel justified in saying that, while the fairy tale theme may well appeal to certain readers, I just could not get past the poor quality of writing that suffocated any glimmer of creativity the story may have held.

Beastly Lights is a very good book and I don’t think the name does it justice. This story kept me reading (way past my bed time) and I did not want to put the book down. Theresa does a great job of creating a bond between the reader and the characters. Liam is the party hard playboy rocker and Freya is the everyday girl with a bad past. Frey is kind hearted and takes more BS from the men in her life then she should ever have too.

I’m not a crier but I did cry at two different places in this book. There are some typing errors but besides that I think this was one of the most emotionally charged books that I have read in a long time.

I did receive this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A failed artist, Freya become gainfully employed when her lawyer brother get her a job as a live in house cleaner for Liam Henderson, rock star extraordinaire. There is one recurring problem, he is obsessive compulsive regarding cleanliness and she is a bit of a slob. Long and repetitive conversations slow the pace down considerably. Editing would help an okay romance become much more.

I received this book through a Publisher's promotional giveaway. Although encouraged as a courtesy to provide feedback, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. This is a really engaging book with characters who just flow from the pages. They are fully developed and the way that they are presented, and their interaction, really made this book one that was highly enjoyable. This reads much more like a fiction book than a romance. The word flow, the pacing of the story, the storyline itself and the dialogue are all elements that mesh well together but the characters are what really brings it all home for me with this one.

This book was very surprising to me. Honestly, this book might have one of the best 'stories' in any book that I've read in a while and it actually held a plot. The story was not hard to follow nor did it leave out any important information. I did think this story was a little long and took forever to play out. This would have gotten 5 stars if not for the few grammatical mistakes, and the fact that I did not like the newspaper/article inserts within the book.

This book needs to be rewritten the main characters storyline was not flushed out. This should have been a 5 star read of 2 artists feeding off each others creative mediums. However, because the protagonist’s character was not fully developed and the love interests storyline was the book fell flat. I hope the author tries again because the guts and stage were set for a bestseller. I wish I arc read this 😔

Beastly lights by Jane. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it. For me, a male, it was a chick lit that took ages to resolve. I am amazed at the attention to detail in the dialogue and the descriptions. Freya was the main narrator though Liam had a short stint. Being also from Melbourne, Australia, a coffee loving place, I could concur with the two coffee machines.

Destruction, disaster, desire. Two people with pain and disaster apart of their everyday life. Freya an artist by nature and a piece of property by her brother. She was bartered away like she was nothing to Liam, redisental bad boy of the rock scene. The read was intense in place and a solid impact in other. I found Freya had Liam had a volitale chemistry that mixed well for them.

Do
Yourself a favor and do not read this/listen to it whatever. The story line sure would have been good. Freya is just beyond immature and just stupid- and didn’t communicate. This little book made me beyond mad- but whatever.
