After all, he was now the sole caregiver for his three younger sisters. What woman would want to put up with that? Still, against his better judgment, he can’t help leaving her a gift now and then, anonymously add ...more

I had never read Laura V Hilton before, but I can tell you, after reading THE CHRISTMAS ADMIRER, I plan on reading all of her books! It was like reading an Amish version of Cinderella and I loved every minute of it. My heart was filled with laughter and faith as well as once I started reading THE CHRISTMAS ADMIRER it was very hard to put down.

The Christmas Admirer by Laura V. Hilton

Benaiah Troyer and Susanna King have know each other since they were children and Susanna always thought they would get married.
they began to court seriously as they got older but when his parents died he knew he should take care of his family and give up his hope of marrying so he broke up with Susannah and broke her heart.
They both loved each other and as time went on it was hard to live in the community and see one another often....very often because Be

As always I enjoy any story from Laura. She has the ability to draw her readers in from the start of her books!
When I first opened the book I thought this sounds like a Cinderella story. I do love fairy tales.
However; the more I read the more I couldn't put the book down. I read really late into the night last night because I just had to see how the story ended.
You know, and I'm pretty guilty of this myself it's really unbelievable how Susanna and Ben couldn't see past the ends of their noses!

When we first meet Susanna the author has us guessing who could be her secret admirer, yes she is a young Amish woman, and someone is sneaking into her home and leaving really sweet personal gifts.
Life continues for this Amish family and we see Susanna’s father moving on, now my impression of the new wife to be, is not good, but hopefully Susanna won’t have to deal with her for very long? If only her secret admirer would reveal himself, and they could forge a life together.

I am a huge fan of this author. I discovered her about a year ago,and have loved everything that I have read by her. This book follows suit. The characters Susanna King and Benaiah Troyer are likeable and written well. I was not a fan of Susanna's father. His character frustrated me. However, I understood his part in the story. I loved the story line. Learning to trust God is a very important lesson. I loved this book!

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit Blogging program. Al

There are a few things I can count on whenever I pick up a book by Laura V. Hilton.

Swoonworthy kisses

The Christmas Admirer delivers all that and more!

Besides the coziness of the snow and of the holiday season, there are moments of laughter and those swoonworthy kisses I mentioned. (Still fanning over here) I loved Susanna’s personality and knew she and I would be friends if such jumping between real life and fiction worlds were possible. Ben is definitely hero-material, a dashing ro

I enjoyed this Christmas story and the way that it spanned the time period between between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The novel had some great characters and some extremely horrid ones!

I absolutely loved Susanna! She was strong, yet respectful. She was caring and she was kind. I really felt for her and the hurt that she had been living with for the past year, due to the breakup with Benaiah. And, oh my goodness, Benaiah! Well, the romantic tension between these two was amazing. Some wonderful s

Laura V. Hilton never disappoint in her writing and The Chritmas Admirer. Kept wanting to read to find out what was going to happen next. Suzanne King's secret admirer had me going from the start. Her father going to remarry and moving to Iowa. Benaiah Troyer was hardworking caring for his parent less siblings and elderly grandparents. A tragedy brings Suzanne and Benaiah together to work out their feelings for each. Will Suzanne have to move to Iowa? Will Benaiah be able to buy her dad's busine ...more
Being from the Ozarks region of Missouri (that corner in the southwest part of the state for the uninformed) Jamesport isn’t in my backyard. However, I have family in Trenton which means that I’ve have opportunities to visit the area, because that is backyard. I don’t know a lot about the community and lets face it, if I’m making a 5-6 hour drive (depending on who’s driving) I’m going to see my people, which doesn’t always translate to going a rural town over to visit the Amish. Especially when ...more

When I read an Amish story by author Laura V. Hilton there are certain things that I know to expect: important lessons- check, Quaint Amish community- check, a story with twists and turns- check, true love- check, and most importantly- swoony kisses- check. Well at least for me anyway. This story starts off a bit on the downside. We find out that after Benaiah’s parents died tragically almost a year ago, he also broke off his engagement with Susanna for that and more personal reasons. However, t ...more

Susanna and Benaiah were engaged. But after his parents died he broke up with her because of a miscommunication. He had five younger sisters and grandparents he was left to take care of. Benaiah did not want Susanna to marry into so much responsibility. Mysteriously she started getting gifts each month with a note stating it was from a secret admirer.
At the last minute she finds out her dad is going to remarry soon and move them away. Her heart only pines for Benaiah though

A wonderful Christmas story by Laura V. Hilton. This book is one you will not want to put down. Loved the characters very well written.
Ever since Benaiah and Susanna were young they have loved each other. Planning for a life ahead but the death of Ben's parents makes him turn back and call it off with Susanne. Susanne thinks she has done something wrong and can't figure out why he would breakup with her. He doesn't want to burden her with caring for his family. When she is use to not struggling

As in previous novels, Laura V. Hilton has impressed me with her insight into the hearts of numerous individuals. Her characters come alive with a credible and developing presence. Amish tradition is well researched through experience and observation.

In Christmas Admirer several issues develop into a story of varied individuals and how they affect one anothers' lives, and intermingle in painful situations. Relationships are strained to the point of breaking, but the comfort and wisdom from seas

The Christmas Admirer is a delightful Amish story immersed in Amish tradition and interlaced with love. Can Beniah Troyer get past his obstacles and claim Susanna King as his wife? He loves her but he can't see any way to overcome the problems of his circumstances. Beniah has obligations as a caregiver for his grandparents and sisters. How could he possibly ask Susanna to take on all that?

A house fire forces the Troyer family to accept Susanna's hospitality, but her father's upcoming marriage le

The Christmas Admirer is my favorite book I have read by Laura V Hilton to date. I felt a connection to Susanna right from the start. I understand what she was going through when her Daed announced his plans to remarry to opinionated Irene. I did not like Irene! Thank goodness she was not a main character in this book. I did like Benaiah. I loved Susanna and Benaiah's chemistry together. I was rooting for them to be a couple but was quickly found out in the beginning that was not going to happen ...more

I enjoyed this story by author Laura Hilton, who is new to me. The characters are hurt and struggling to trust God, as are so many of us, which makes them believable.

In all honesty, there were characters I just did not like. How could a father treat his daughter that way? Maybe we weren’t supposed to like him or his girlfriend. Or maybe we were supposed to learn about grace and mercy. But still, I had some negative reactions, which makes a story good, because we shouldn’t like every character in

I love that Laura Hilton approaches Amish Fiction from a different perspective and deals with harder subjects. She doesn’t disappoint in The Christmas Admirer. You won’t want to put this one down, as you root for Benaiah and Susanna to overcome the obstacles they each face to find their way back to each other. Susanna’s dad made me so upset with his callus treatment of her, but her it shows how someone can get so wrapped up in their own life that they forget the lives they are affecting. Real ch ...more

Sort of a Cinderella story. This is my first Laura V Hilton book. And there are things that I like and things that aren't for me. The pace seemed to be both flow nicely and still be drawn out. Maybe it was just that I wanted the plot to not be quite so drawn out. I enjoyed the characters but like Susanna, Benaiah's back and forth frustrated me! I also felt REALLY bad for Susanna as I think some of the other characters treated her horridly, and towards the end I REALLY got frustrated and had to s ...more

This is my favorite book by the author. The characters are well developed as is the plot. I was immediately drawn to Susanna and my heart went out to her when her father made the announcement of his upcoming marriage. That was pretty callous of him as far as I'm concerned.

I liked the humor in this book and it is pretty easy to love Benaiah as much as you'll surely love Susanna. This is a fast paced and wonderful story that I recommend as you next read.

I loved this book! It has become one of my favorite Christmas stories ever. It starts right off getting into the plot of the lives of Benaiah & Susanna. The characters draw you into their lives so completely that you become a part of their community. It helps you take a look at your own life and how you deal with trusting the Lord and "facing the lion". Once you start reading you will have a hard time putting it down!

To start with I was excited to read this book as it takes place in my back yard of Iowa and Missouri. I always enjoy books set in places that are familiar to me. Next I like to read books with a holiday theme this time of year to help put me in the mood for the season. I had fun trying to figure out who was leaving Susanna secret gifts. That was a fun touch to the story. You would really feel Susanna's emotions throughout this book in the way the author wrote. She had a lot going on and had a lo ...more

This Christmas story was a miss for me. While I enjoyed some of the humor, I largely didn't connect with nor understand main characters Susanna, Benaiah and Susanna's father Peter.

My gratitude to publisher Whitaker House for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and the opinions expressed are my own.

Poor Susannah! Her one true love seems lost to her and now her father announces he is marrying a woman who obviously has no room for a step daughter. Her future is quite the dilemma.

Benaiah loves Susannah with a full heart and desires to marry her but has little by way of provision. How will he figure it all out? Will he be able to come up with a viable plan before he loses Susannah forever?

Hilton knows how to write about young love full of angst and trial. Her knowledge of the Amish community i

The Christmas Admirer is my first experience reading Laura V. Hilton's work. I enjoy Amish fiction and this seasonal story didn't disappoint me. We collect unique pieces from our favorite glass blowing studio on the Oregon Coast. It is no wonder I found this story of an Amish man with a glass blowing studio intriguing!

Susanna King has had one blow after another. The love of her life broke things off ten long months ago. As Thanksgiving approaches, her heart can't help remembering how happy she

With the weather turning colder, I am starting to seek out some enjoyable Christmas reading. Laura V. Hilton is new to me and, while I read very few Amish novels, the story sounded intriguing so I picked it up.

The main characters are both flawed and incredibly relatable. They have struggles trusting God (each of them has a different issue, but trust is the root of the matter), which I think many of us can understand with little difficulty even though the way we may live out our faith looks very

Laura Hilton’s The Christmas Admirer is a Christian Fiction book set in modern day Amish country. Benaiah Troyer has loved Susanna King for a long time and in these small, close-knit communities, it’s obvious from the beginning that this couple will probably remain a couple until the end, though there are some obstacles in the way of their true love. Though the story is predictable at some points, isn’t that the kind of read we are looking for when we want to simply relax with a good book? The a ...more

In one of my favorite genres, Amish fiction, Laura Hilton has made the cut!! I know now, that when I see her name on a book, I must put it on my "To Read" list!! Her ability to use scripture wisely and meaningfully , interweaving it within the plot is unique and one that not many can do successfully.

As the tale begins, the reader is at once caught up in the guessing game, who could be Susanna's secret admirer?? This young lady is described as such a sweet young lady . Someone is leaving her gift
