Pieces of Us

Rate this book
When Ryan met Emma, he knew she was way out of his league. The last thing he expected was to fall head over heels in love with her.

Emma always felt out of place with her family’s social status and her own friends. Meeting Ryan, the boy from the other side of the tracks, opened her eyes to another world—a world that made her happy and made sense for once.

That is, until her father became terminally ill, changing the course of Ryan and Emma’s future together. They were once happy, now torn apart, but are the reasons valid or is someone else pulling the strings?

Pieces Of Us by Katharina LeBoeuf is the prequel to Letting Love Go, a Damaged Hearts Series novel.
Pieces of Us is a short story.
Meet Emma Leroux and Ryan Adams as highschool students.
Their social status is totally different. But Ryan makes her so happy. Till her father gets ill. This changes everything.

Christ on a cracker! I need the first book NOW! Hurry up April 18th!
From page one I was drawn in. I enjoyed every single thing about this prequel and I need Emma and Ryan’s story NOW. I loved the build up to the story that is to come. I liked Emma, she wasn’t judgemental and spoiled. She liked Ryan for the person he was; she didn’t try and change him. I adored Ryan. He was a total sweetheart. His shyness was beyond cute. He instantly knew that Emma was out of his league. In MY opinion Ryan was out of EMMA’S league. Yes Ryan was from the ‘’wrong side of the tracks’’ but he was a gentlemen. He treated Emma with respect; he got on with her father and was there for her when she needed him. What did he get in return?! Emma believing her b*tch of a mother! I understood that Emma was doing what she fought her ill father wanted, BUT it didn’t stop me from wanting to slap some sense into her. SHE KNEW WHAT HER MOTHER WAS LIKE, WHY BELIEVE HER?! ← I had to let my rant out, I’m sorry I’m NOT sorry. My heart hurt for Emma and what she was going through, but I felt more sorry for Ryan. All he did was love Emma, and all he got was a broken heart. I absolutely adored Ryan’s bond with Emma’s father. That last conversation between them in the hospital not only broke my heart but warmed my heart.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow, easy to love and easy to devour in one sitting. As you can tell by my review/rant, this short prequel wormed its way into my heart and made me passionate.. To defend Ryan.
One last thing; Emma’s nickname for Ryan, Rye bread was is super cute!

I'm not going type any kind of description, as Pieces of Us is a tease to what is coming around the corner. The taste of Ryan and Emma's story at the beginning has whetted my appetite for more. It's short, sweet, but packs a big punch. Basically one questionable decision by someone has now brought down big consequences. I was left hanging, and I CANNOT wait to read Letting Love Go since this super talented author has me highly addicted with just a few short pages. This is why I can do nothing less that give it a perfect rating, as usually the short prequels never hook me like this ever! Not to mention that most of them don't have me emotionally attached to the characters but Katharina LeBoeuf did just that, because I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! So with all of that being said, I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING this powerfully addictive Prequel Novella be read by all before Book 1 of the Damaged Heart Series comes out!

This short story of Ryan and Emma's story is both endearing and heart-breaking, for young love to suffer that much that early. Hopefully, we'll find our answers on the next book! I can't wait!

3.5 Stars for Pieces of Us

Pieces of Us is a prequel novella/short story by Katharina LeBoeuf. This was my introduction to this author, so cannot say I know where the story goes from here. I believe there is at least one novel published from the information in the back of the book. I do not know which was published first, ie, I know some authors will have a popular series and later go back and write a prequel to give readers an idea of the mc's in their younger years. Other authors start with the prequel and move on. Both formats can work well, so I am not sure why I am so curious about the origins of this one.

The constraints of the short length make it hard to truly get attached to characters, but there was enough meat to find myself asking more questions about Emma and Rye. To me, that is a measure of attachment to the characters, and therefore a very good thing in a situation like this. I may not run immediately to Amazon to pick up the next book, but I feel like will in the not too distant future.

Ryan and Emma are in high school in New Orleans when they catch each other's eyes at a fair at Emma's school. The "meet cute" Ryan orchestrates works well for these two kind of shy characters. For adolescents (and sometimes even those much older) ferris wheels, carnival food, and winning a trinket for the girl can be quite romantic. It works very well here to introduce the characters to us and to each other.

From here, it becomes an opposite sides of the track story (do they still use that term? I'm not even old enough to remember the days the term derives from, but I can't think of any that has replaced it. But, I digress.) Emma comes from affluence - I loved the description of her private school from Ryan's POV. I don't have the exact quote handy, but I laughed when he expounded that the school was such a hotbed of future power that the governor probably sent his kids down from Baton Rouge just to attend. Ryan comes from...less. (There lies one of the downfalls of the length of this prequel. We learn very little about Ryan's circumstances.)

Emma's father is portrayed as very open minded, while her mother is written as exactly the kind of snob you would picture when thinking of the high society, looking down on all below stereotype. The chapters are written in alternating POVs from Emma and Ryan, which is a style I have really come to appreciate.

While I feel there is potential for a good story here, and I appreciate the concept of a novella to introduce it, I feel this would have benefitted from a bit more length. More detail of their feelings, to really make the reader feel these two belong together, have something worth fighting for, could only enhance the story.

On the technical side, I found very few editing or proofing errors, and it is well formatted. This is a completely clean read safe for all ages.

This story was so short I read it in, no joke, 10 minutes!
While I understand this is a prequel to introduce the characters for the authors Damaged Hearts Series, it felt so rushed that I don't feel I actually got to know the characters.
And while I also understand that these characters are teenagers, I couldn't stand that Emma was so naive. While her father was going through his illness, she allowed her mother to control her emotionally knowing how her mother felt about their social status.
As a whole, I have to wonder what the point of this prequel was. Although I haven't read the first book in the Damaged Hearts series yet, I'm not sure that the prequel lent anything towards developing and giving readers a better understanding of the characters.

Only short but it is the first book in this series, it starts the whole story off and is the beginning of a seven year journey for these characters. Young love is never an easy thing, coupled with losing one parent and another being very controlling it is almost impossible. As I have read and am reviewing all this series I can promise it is worth getting this one to read first a lot of things that crop up in the next two books stem back to this first story. I was lucky enough to win the first 3 books in a competition but I would have happily bought them all. The writing is good and has a great flow, the story is consistent so no gaps.

This is a great little prequel. This is the background of Ryan and Emma's relationship and what went wrong. They're from opposites social classes. Emma's mom feels its important to look good so she manipulates things so her social standing will look good. However, in the process she may have hurt her daughter. Ryan and Emma will go on to different lives and this is the stuff that hapenned that made them go their separate ways.

This is a prequel to The damaged heart series and give you an idea of what is to come. Two people who are different find themselves drawn to each other. Ryan and Emma have to fight against their own feelings as well as others trying to pull them apart while dealing with tragedies and life issues. This book is well written and it does exactly what a good prequel does… It makes you want to dive in for more.

Emotional and Captivating

Though this story is short it totally drew me in and kept me captivated til the end! It was very emotional watching their relationship struggles due to social status and an unexpected event ripped at my heart.Yet I look forwarding to the next book because I still have hope that these two can find a way to overcome their obstacles that life has thrown at them

Amazing!

Pieces of Us is just the start of something wonderful in the Damaged Heart Series. I think many people can remember young love. But for Ryan and Emma there is just so much more for them to deal with. The storyline and character's were really well thought of. I cannot wait to see were this series takes us!

The warning is there, it's a prequel, but the story is so fast moving, I found myself reading faster and faster, being sucked into the plot. Then I was at the end and wanting more. Ryan and Emma's story is totally believable. It could happen to your son or daughter. The Damaged Heart Series starts out strong. I suggest having "Letting Love Go" on standby to move right into!

Pieces of Us

An enjoyable short prequel that introduces the characters and their background. I liked how it flowed and how it touched on a very important issue of social status and how it influences some people and their choices.
I look forward to seeing what happens next.

I love the story of Ryan and Emma. My heart broke for Ryan when Emma ended things between them because she believed her manipulative mom telling her that her dad didn't want them together. Katharina what a wonderful introduction to Ryan and Emma can't wait to see where their story leads. Looking forward to the Damaged Heart Series.

Wonderful new author !!!!

Ryan and Emma.....an amazing introduction

Katharina LeBoeuf has written an amazingly addictive prequel to her series. Ryan and Emma were just beautiful together. This may only be the prequel, and a short novella, but Katharina has put so much into it that you will be wanting to read the rest of the series as they are published. I cannot wait to start reading the full length novels just to see where Katharina takes their story.

I am hooked on these characters. My heart was broken, hopefully in the future, it will be mended. I cannot recommend this prequel strongly enough.

OmG. This prequel to Letting Love Go, is so good. I am just going to say that it will leave you wanting Letting Love Go right away. I am so glad I have an ARC of it waiting for me on my kindle, that I hope to get to very soon.

This is a really quick read and its about how the characters meet. It is short and sweet but it is going to piss you off. This is the only prequel I have read that left me emotionally drained. Great job on the authors part.

This is free so why not go grab your copy today!

Young love is so fragile. Emma is a "rich kid", she doesn't have that persona though. Her father taught her well. She has respect for all those that show respect. Ryan, or as Emma likes to call him, Rye bread lol is the "kid from the other side of the tracks" . Rye has had too many bad experiences to believe his luck when he meets the girl of his dreams. In just 45 pages it was amazing how this author made me feel each of these characters personalities. I cannot wait until the next book comes out later this month. I really need to know what else transpires. Great read.... I read it twice😉+

Pieces of Us by Katharina LeBoeuf
“First Love, 5 stars”

This is a novella so for me it’s hard to review without giving too much away. Emma and Ryan are polar opposites, he’s poor, she’s rich. Emma is well educated and Ryan has done enough to get by. They meet by chance and cant resist the pull between them. They have the kind of love most people look their whole lives for. But when tragedy strikes will they be able to stand tall against the enemy? Read Pieces of Us to get a taste of Ryan and Emma.
