I thought I’d known what angry looked like on Black before all this. I hadn’t.

Black takes Miri with him to New York, where he thrusts her into a world of Wall Street, talk shows, fancy dinner parties and being hounded by paparazzi. Although he’s playing the part of smirking Wall Street pirate, all of this is part of his new business venture, which, as far as Miri can tell, consists of hunting down and killing every single vampire in existence on Earth.

Mostly, however, Black wants Brick. He flat-out won’t stop until he’s cut the head or heart from the vampire king who put him in that federal prison in Louisiana.

Alarmed at the changes she sees in Black, Miri grows increasingly worried at the lengths he seems willing to go to bring the vampire kingdom down. Between his nightmares, mood swings, late-night disappearances, a new infatuation with swordplay, and outright lies, she can’t help worrying about his mind, too, and if trauma is fueling this obsession even more than anger.

When a series of terrorist attacks take place in the southern United States and Black appears to be involved, Miri’s fears worsen. More and more, she starts to wonder who is hunting whom, whether Black is baiting the vampires into a confrontation or Brick is just manipulating him once again for his own purposes.

With some series, by book 3 or 4, my interest has waned. With Quentin Black, and especially this one, the mystery, angst and ...... just keeps getting better. Here, Black is after the ruthless vampire, Brick., the vampire king who put him in the federal prison (in book 5).
This time, he has totally "shut out" Miri as he goes after the powerful vampire , who is wreaking havoc and terrorist mayhem to lure Black into action. Before, Black and Miri have almost been "joined at the hip." Now, she's alarmed at all the changes in Black, and that he seems willing to risk everything -- and their relationship. He's obsessed, blocking her out of his life, as he's caught up in a secret op that he won't bring her into. Miri has to wonder what control the vampires seem to have over him -- and the answer is not pretty. BLACK of MOOD turned out to be one of my favorite books so far. It's very intense. It gets resolved at the end, and is a bit "cliffy", as to Miri's feelings about what has happened (to her AND to Black). V

Almost unbearable sustained tension throughout the entire book! Incredibly imaginative writing, characters and plot. I only wish there were less perversion.

I have devoured the all of the Quentin Black Mysteries in the last couple of months. I finished this one with a bit of a book hangover and don't know if I am prepared to move on to a new book. I think I might be a little traumatized for reals. The book draws you into Black and Miri's world so completely that you feel a little lost when it ends--the high action and drama kept my adrenaline peaked throughout this book. I learned with great sadness that I now have to wait for the next in the series and I am so bummed.

Nail-biting

I was literally looking to see how many pages were left of this book as I neared the end, hoping that it wouldn't end in a cliffhanger. This book was a lot more darker than the previous books in the series. Black has just gotten home after being kidnapped, raped, beaten, and psychologically tortured. He is on a mission of vengeance and he is taking Miri with him. This book has a lot of cloak and dagger with poor Miri feeling like she is losing Black. Once again, another great read and I can't wait for the next. I have gobbled-up this series in 3 days.

Love!

Loved this book in the series! There was action, there was some romance, and there was betrayal. I really wanted to hurt Black half the time, and I felt so sorry for Miri for having to put up with all of it, although it's still always sad when Black cries. I don't know how Miri does it all, putting up with Black, and the lifestyle in this while also having to firgure everything out herself. Can't wait to start the next one!❤

this book was annoying and most of the time I wanted to slap Blake and Miri and how they interacted (or not) with each other. In the end, what Black did and the plan he did not share with Miri was just shocking and the way he got angry with her when all things were discovered and she got angry was infuriating. They are complex characters but the internal dialogue is just too much sometimes! 3 stars

For the first time ever, I'm hating having vampires in my books! If I didn't feel like I'd be missing out, I'd stop reading the Series - that's how much I hate them in these books!😖😢

Black of Mood is the sixth book in the Quentin Black Mystery series by J.C. Andrijeski. WHY? WHY? WHY? Have I not discovered this author before now? I have seriously been missing out on some stellar reads, and that is something I plan to remedy starting immediately. This turned out to be quite the epic book binge- and I enjoyed every single second- even if the author constantly had my heart in my mouth, or had me pulling my hair out in frustration, or seemed to delight in toying with my emotions pretty much the entire time- I willingly went back for more each and every time. Sixteen books in and I can’t wait for more!!!
Seriously, this series truly is a MUST-READ, especially for anyone who loves really original paranormal mysteries with incredible world-building and scene setting. If you love immersive reads, then this is definitely the series for you!
But be warned, this isn’t a ‘light and fluffy’ cozy paranormal mystery- this has plenty of gritty, raw, violent, emotive, and a ‘hang on to your seat’ and brace yourselves because this is going to get INTENSE situations. There are potential triggers contained through the series- such as violence, murder, abuse, sexual abuse, manipulation, graphic language and more. So keep that in mind if you are sensitive to any of those subjects.
I stumbled on this series purely by accident, and this is another fortuitous find of late, because not only was I hooked on the story within the first few pages and practically inhaled the entire series back-to-back…. it is also turned out to be entirely addictive reading, with Ms. Andrijeski’s stellar storytelling talents, her clever and intriguing touches, the many well-developed and interesting characters, the brilliant ‘world’ creation, and all the other rich layers and ‘flavours’ she poured into her pages, made the real world fade away as I was swept along on adventure after adventure.
J.C. Andrijeski’s world building skills are sheer perfection, putting me front and centre to all the action-packed developments in this immersive, captivating, and addictive book/series. I am so hooked on her work now and will happily devour anything she ever produces- so I see plenty of book binges in my future.
This is a heart-stopping, action-packed, intense, mystery with tension, intrigue, seers, vampires, chemistry, sizzle, science fiction, crime, investigation, deadly games of cat and mouse, murder, violence drama, danger, friendship, politics, agendas, and so much more that I won’t get into here because I really don’t want to spoil it for you.
Ms. Andrijeski has a bold, dynamic, and very vivid writing style that easily brings her story to life- it was like watching a movie play out before my eyes, The descriptions are quite detailed and painted a powerful picture- I really could see this making a fantastic movie or television series.
Highly Recommended Reading!!!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, J.C. Andrijeski!

Just finished the Black of Mood, the last in the series written up to this date and boy oh boy do I want more! From the 1st book in the Quentin Black series to the last book in the Shadow Wars series I was completely entertained. I like Black and Miri and the complications of their relationship. She is finding out that she is not completely human and he is finding out that he can love. His expression of passion is priceless. I like that he enjoys loving her and doesn't mind verbalizing it. One of the best scenes is in Black of Mood when she does what some of us want to do when a vampiress bites and puts hands on your man stuff....wrap hands around her throat and squeezes.

I so loved the supporting characters and look forward to the back story of Angel and Elvis (Cowboy). That should be pretty hot. I don't know if I missed it but I don't remember if the reason Cowboy was incarcerated was ever completely revealed. Angel did find an article about him but never revealed what it was about. Maybe we will find out more about him in the next book. Can't wait.

One does get lost sometimes when Blacks explanation for everything becomes " its a seer thing" and we don't get a better understanding of what a seer actually is. I was getting impatient with her irrational anger when she didn't like when choices were made for her.....like keeping her identity as a seer secret to protect her life. Instead of being upset with her Uncle Charles for keeping her identity a secret she should have been thanking him.
Overall, although there were times I wanted to scream....lets just move on okay....the book was entertaining. I am looking forward to the next book Black to Dust and hope Black and Doc are on the same page.

I adore JC Andrijeski’s Quentin Black Mystery Books. They’re scifi/fantasy/paranormal film-noire mysteries on steroids. That’s certainly the case with the sixth book in this fabulous series, Black Of Mood. Brilliantly dangerous psychic detective Quentin Black, and his partner, forensic psychologist Miriam (Miri) Fox, are back once again and readers can rejoice for this book somehow maintains everything that makes this series wonderful. Black vs vampire king Brick, the glitter and power of New York and it’s deeply dark underside. Plots within plots. This book has it all - and it’s all superbly presented. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to Black to Dust, the next book in this series.

PS: The Quentin Black stories have been labeled as both the Quentin Black Mystery Series and the Quentin Black Shadow Wars series. This is the same book in either case, though it’s number 6 in the former series and number 2 in the latter.

I had a love / hate relationship with this book. I really had to try my hardest to suspend disbelief with the amnesia thing. I also disliked Miri and Black interaction in this book. Hope they return to "normal" in the next book. We didn't get to learn a lot more about seers or Black in general and thry still promise to talk and all, but the talk never really happens lol.

One of the best things in this book is Cowboy, I really hoped he would return in this book and oh boy he did. Only.. We know next to nothing about this dude and I'm not sure why Black decided to hire a random inmate (and his inner circle ffs) but okay.

I like where the plot is headed with the vamps, interested in seeing how it all unfolds.. But as I already read the Vampire Detective series I know how the world is gonna end up :")

Black's Revenge

After surviving what the vampires did to him Black is obsessed with bringing them down and destroying Brick. But at what cost? His marriage? His Sanity? His Life? How far will Black go to get revenge?

Another brilliant book where nothing is as it seems. And no one can be trusted. Maybe not even Black himself. The only thing guaranteed is that nothing will ever be the same.

Can't wait to find out what happens next.

So many series peter out after 4 or 5 books in. This one just seems to gather more momentum. This installment really gathered steam with not only a major threat to the seer race, but also to Quentin's and Miri's relationship. Sheer mature, entertaining fantasy with a bit of a statement concerning race relations hidden within it.

Super Fanfreakingtastic read. Dramatic characters that makes you read read and then read some more. Nothing is what it seems. Dramatic twists and turns. You won't see it coming. Sexy, angst filled and action packed passion. Miriam and Quentin is a perfect match.

So much tension and drama in this novel kept you glued to the page. There was so many surprises or not depending on how much you could figure out considering the complexities of Black's mind that I literally had to keep reading to see if I was right and if not, what next. A thrilling and exciting read as Miri tries to battle dreams and reality and uncertainty in her relationship but I was a little disappointed that the end seemed to just happen, and though there was a resolution it felt like something was missing. Possibly another book?

Black series (Book 2 of the Shadow Wars spin-off), as a free copy from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

Black of Mood may be my favorite Quentin Black book to date (yeah, I know I said that about the last one) -- the series seems to get better and more complex with each book. The ending was an action-packed, wild twist I never saw coming. Andrijeski managed to layer the tale with enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing until the last chapter.

What makes the Quentin Black series so wonderful is the communication--and often, the lack thereof (which can be irritating)-- between the the two main protagonists- the alien, Black, and the mostly-human, Miri. As with many inter-cultural relationships, there are misunderstandings, creating a gulf between the two that sometimes seem insurmountable. At times, the crossed-wires can be frustrating to the reader, but it's so worth it to stick it out and see where the author is leading us. I'm already eager to see what happens next!

Note: Reread the series Jan 2018.

Excellent book! When I finished reading this book my first thought was"Wow." This book answer a lot of questions from the time Black disappeared, Miri looking for him and the whole mystery of the Nick and Angel's involvement. I have read the entires series and love the stories. I have watched the ups and downs of Black and Miri's relationship but this book fills in gaps. Black really loves his wife and loosing her would be unspeakable. I enjoy getting to know Cowboy and many of the seers and watched Miri's relationship to them and her Uncle Charles change. I hope this is not the last book for this excellent series. Read and enjoy as I could not put the book down!

If you wanted rainbows and puppies, you came to the wrong book. If you want a non-stop roller coaster of roiling emotions that will drive you to the brink, hold you there for a while, then laugh as you tip over the edge into oblivion... Welcome back to J.C. Andrijeski's world.

With paranoia running high, sometimes it's impossible to know who to trust. All we do know is that the war on vampires has begun and Brick is waiting in the wings, taunting Black and Miri from the shadows. They're both still dealing with their trauma from Black & Blue and Black Blood, and when you add to that the volatile Seer state of mind you have yourself a bomb waiting to go off. And boy, does it ever.

Black of Mood will keep you guessing right up until the very last page, and then make you wonder how you'll ever make it to the next book.

I love this series.  LOVE IT.  Massive, huge fan over here.  So you can imagine that I was pretty excited to read this. And yet, I didn’t savour it.  I didn’t take my time. I devoured it.  I was ravenous for more of the story.  And boy, did the author deliver.

Faced with an apparently invincible foe, and with an unknown mole thrown into the mix, this story unfurled like a rose in the morning light; its secrets delivered in stages.

A great plot, with a tangible threat and tension. With that ending though?  Without wishing to give too much away, my heart aches.  When will these two get a break?

A fabulous addition to the series.  Loved it.

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way. In this story Black and Miri are in New York because Black is determined to find Brick after the events of the previous book (and he feels it would be better to do it there) Much to Miri's dismay he appears to not be above doing anything and everything in order to succeed in this "vendetta" against Brick. Miri on the other hand is struggling with being in New York with all the publicity and celebrity that involves, plus the changes she sees in Black as everything gets very secretive and confusing. Then there are some dreadful terrorist attacks that implicate Black as the organiser - can their relationship survive all of this drama and uncertainty?

OMG - WOW - this was a very INTENSE story that had me riveted. I could not put it down and found myself reading faster and faster as the story went on as I absolutely HAD to know what happened next. It moved from one situation to the next in a seamless manner as the story quickly developed. As always it was very well written and I could definitely feel all the emotions that the characters were going through - even when they were very intense. I LOVED the dramatic ending and I give no apologies for ignoring everything else while I was reading it. I recommend red wine or chocolate as a treat when you finish this as you'll need to come down from the intensity. I think this is the best book of JC's I have ever read - it just blew my mind. If I could give it a higher rating that 5 I definitely would!!

******I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book******
Black of Mood is a mystical amazing dark, gritty, luring story of Quentin Black and Dr. Miriam Fox taking on Brick and his world of vampires. Quentin had a traitor on his payroll and his desire for revenge against Brick was continuously being challenged. Brick revenge warrants with Miriam's life or death. Quentin adventure was destructive, dangerous and deadly but it had to be done!

The story continues to unfold with remnant from the Black and Blue with Quentin consistent to catch Brick as well as Brick plan for Miriam. It was a tugging war between Miri and Quentin as their miscommunications and misunderstanding situations became a hardship on their marriage. Quentin actions was very deceitful at times and I find myself angry at him for a few of his decisions. Will Quentin plans work? Can he find Brick before his wife demise? Who can Quentin trust?

There is definitely so much more to this awesome series but read Black and Blue before reading this book, you will not be disappointed.
