Bethany Anne and those in the Etheric Empire have conquered the Aliens who would conquer Earth.
However, there are a few that do not appreciate the new rules. Dealing with insurrectionists down on the planet, or with a large military rebellion coming from another system, Bethany Anne and team are ready and willing to give everyone a piece of their mind.
Because there is one common attitude that runs in all of those who fight for the Etheric Empire.
I wasn't going to write a review for this book, but as more time goes by the more upset I get.
Don't get me wrong, I love this series -love it- but I just don't think the author cares about it any more. When he first started we would get a new book almost every month (spoiled I know) but now he has so many side projects that this one the main one, the one the others revolve around, just isn't getting the love it used to.
This book had too much going on, too many side POV's of characters that I don't remember and after reading this book I felt I missed one because I was so lost. Turns out there was a book that was supposed to be released before this one and months later I still don't know which one that is.
I'm not saying the author shouldn't do side books (set in the same universe) but he shouldn't say you don't have to read them to understand the first series when you obviously do. I have no interest in these other books, frankly I don't think they are very good, but I read them to understand this series.
I want a new Bethany Ann book that revolves around Bethany Ann, not a book that 'features' her. I don't mind extra POV's but again this book is supposed to be about Bethany Ann and she has a very reduced part in this book.
I miss the joy of the first part of this series, when the author was trying to get us paranormal romance fans to become sci fi fans.
And yes glutton for punishment me will read the next book(s) in this series. If they ever get released.
Ok, this book makes you cry. Several times I might add. People die. Good people die. It's sad. But, they died doing what they were meant to do. Also what they wanted to do in the name of Empress Bethany Anne. (She hates that title). They came to save Earth. So far they are doing a hell of a job.
They beat the Yollins and defeated their King. There is a twist to that contest. Sorry no can do, it will give the plot away to those behind me.
Aushur and Bellatrix have had puppies. They are choosing their own partners. Yes, doggies can communicate. I so need/want one. Hey I talk to mine. The look on their faces are usually priceless. You know the I don't want to understand you look. Admit it, you've seen the look.
In this book you get to look around the space station which has been built in side an asteroid. The relationship with the Yollin is progressing but there are some who are against the Etheric Empire. Problem is, is the have the three most powerful ships in the Yollin fleet. Archangel requests she go into battle alone without humans on board because she doesn't like the odds of their survival. But they volunteered.
That's what these books are really about. Defending their Empress and defending their family and friends. But also, Defending those unable to defend themselves. I'm off to read the next one. Enjoy!
As I was reading this book I found myself excited, sad, and laughing. Fantastic job as always. When is the next one out!?! Ok I will let you breathe...ok break is over, where is the next one!?!... If you haven't read any of this series shame on you. And be ready to become a fanatic. This will totally drive you to skip sleep until your caught up...and you will cheer, laugh and learn new creative ways to cuss.
This one wasn't fraught with right-wing talking points fan-service, at least.
But I'm getting tired of feeling like I've missed significant plot points after having read everything in the main branch of the series. I'm convinced it's references to things in the plethora of spinoff series and that is not very nice.
When the new galaxy presents you with the inevitable lemons of upstart power hungry ex-masters of your newly acquired ESTHERIC EMPIRE attempting to reclaim what is no longer theirs & hurting your new subjects by blatantly disregarding common courtesy. What is Bethany Anne to do? Welll. . . . .the Queen now Empress needs to make galactic lemonade of course.
This was pretty good. Bethany Anne and her group are cleaning up the Yollin worlds and fighting rebels. Good space battles and the usual cast of interesting characters
As always, another winner in this impeccable series!! Bethany Anne for the win!
Merged review:
Happy dance!
But then I'm always happy when a new Kurtherian book comes out! I love them all and as always, I want MORE MORE MORE!! I guess I'll just have to reread them all again. ::hand to forehead:: Be still my beating heart! ::weg:: I was bouncing around, cackling like a mad fiend and roaring all the way to the end. This is a FUN series! It never gets old. Enjoy.
Never Surrender is the sixteenth book in The Kurtherian Gambit series by Michael Anderle.
My biggest detraction from this work is simply that I wish there was more description into the different aliens presented. Their varying and unique appearances. It’s half of what makes them so fascinating, the other being the new systems and structures in their government and ideologies.
Well it’s not entirely unexpected that some of the Yoll would be upset about the new leaders. Especially being under another species command or protection. And even less surprising that it was primarily those in military power under the old regime, and those higher up in the destroyed caste system.
The Eat Shit and Die Beam was finally used. So awesome. Not so awesome that so many perished in their next battle against the Yoll, along with the original ArchAngel. Her upgrade to AI, was definitely unexpected and amazing.
Tabitha is such a badass and I’m more shocked that Anderle waited until this book, instead of the previous, to pair or bond her with one of Ashur’s pups. Her and Dio are definitely going to cause some chaos. I’m sad Shin passed, and feel terrible for his brothers that have known for so long to now be without him.
I wonder what is to come of Aerolyn and his place within the Etheric Empire? It seems, at least for now, that his father won’t attack to come for him, but who knows if this will change in the future. They will probably wait for the right moment to strike.
I have been reading straight through the books, actually rereading the first five, and enjoying then all. I love Christina's fast development and the talkative puppies. All a lot of fun and surpises. The final development of the meteor space station MR is stunning and would be fun to visit. I loved the different characters exploring the "town" and stores. Like you were there. I really enjoyed all the alien input and finishing the book with the big battle. I highly recommend this book as characters grow, change, and make a strong force for our heroes.
FYI : Started reading the author's notes when they got a little shorter. Michael talks about foul language and having two authors in the family. Really charming. I used the all purposeful "F" word for the first time at the tender age of around 54 years. Taught school so it was never in my vocabulary and I was raised properly. Story: Teen daughter was having issues, again, and yelled at me over the phone, "F..... you!" "Thank you, Honey, and F.... you, too," I replied.
Some of these books have a jump in time from one book to the next, and I'm very happy that I found the additional books that help fill in what happened. There is quite a lot of deeper emotion in this book than some others, and it adds to the story nicely.
I did have some difficulty keeping track of which Captain in what ship was on which side of the gate! I tried, really, went back and read those sections again and again! I was about ready to order a whiteboard! Finally I decided my lupus had taken control and it just wasn't going to fit together for me, and I threw in the towel. It did make the ending a little less than it could have been, which I'm saying in case others had the same problem.
All in all another good story about some very unique people trying to solve some of the universe's problems. While using highly creative swearing. ✋🐺
Spending time with Tabitha and the Tontos is always good for the soul. I laugh out loud so often, my husband asks me to read what was so funny to him. He has a traumatic brain injury that affects his memory so he can't read books, he forgets what he read after two pages. But since Tabitha hit the scene, I read him snippets of her journey and he laughs with me. BA is busy defending Yoll and we get to see her pull out the big gun and it is epic!!! We also get to see her more vulnerable side, sometimes we forget that under her badassery she is a woman who has feelings. Never Surrender, is packed with action, feelings, humor and of course a whole lot of cussing! Loved it!
Michael Andele’s Kutherian Gambit series is a gem!!
If you like (love) science fiction. If you really get into military science fiction . If you enjoy a creative mind that puts a twist into traditional storylines that is original and engaging then why haven’t you been reading Michael Anderle’s Kutherian Gambit series? I command you to start at the beginning or you will utterly cheat yourself of the story and character development Mr. Anderle excels at. Do yourself a favor and pickup book 1. I have read 16 in the last month and a half and at Midnight tonight I am downloading # 17.
It's hard sometimes not to let previous reviewers skew your perception of a book. I almost let it happen at reading overviews for book 16... Let me just tell you; if you have gotten this far in the series, don't read the 3 star and below reviews. It was dumb on my part. The first Yollin battle was "easier" than the second because the Etheric Empire didn't have to engage with 3 Yollin Super-Dreadnought at the beginning!!! Duh! Ok I'm done. Read book 17.
Yes it was a good read but it is getting slightly repetitive. Bad guys try to take over, our good guys save the day. Some parts were good John singlehandedly taking on the rebels, Shin's demise, the loss of the ArchAngel and Christine showing that little packages can pack and almighty punch. But it is frankly all the same. The characters too seemed to have become stuck in their groove - where is the growth and the development of them. Plus it smacks a lot of Star Wars meets The Last StarFighter - needed a bit more imagination to make it unique
What a book. I found myself laughing and crying throughout the whole book. This series is the ultimate in sci fi and paranormal stories. All the characters, including the computers are so well done. I can't say enough about it. No matter which side of the spectrum you fall on, sci fi, human or paranormal, you will find it all in here. It portrays an earth that is destroying itself and all the people on it. This series gives you an alternative. Well done, author.
The revolution on Yoll isn’t going as smoothly as they would like. The upper caste doesn’t want anything upsetting their way of life. Too bad for them cuz it’s happening. Now we have a big gorge of Yoll superdreadnaughts trying to sneak in through the gate and destroy the human fleet. We also have Tabitha in another system working on stopping the slave trade that flourishes there. We lose a lot of good people in these battles along with one of the most important ship. I’m on to book 17 and I’m hoping for a few chuckles there.
If there was ever a character that needed to be real it would be Bethany Anne. I've actually put books I've been waiting for off so I can read this series with every spare minute I have (I got to book 13 and finally had to get a good night's sleep). Definitely worth me coming out from my safe, quiet space to say thank you to Mr. Anderle for gifting us this and also, if you haven't read the offshoots then go and find them now!
This is where we meet the Yollins and set the basis of an intergalactic empire but it's going to take a lot of kicking add before everyone sees its BAs' way and it's going to take a sacrifice , and their is plenty of volunteers who will follow BA to hell and back or just across the galaxy. An excellent showing that proves MA can do the space side as well as humour and action.
ArchAngel and Meredith are forced to fight in this book. ArchAngel in the next s u system and Meredith in the Yollin system. Meredith has to bring the ESD weapon on line and it is unknown as to whether Meredith will survive firing it. ArchAngel has to fight two hold out Yollin superdreadnoughts and wants her crew off before she fights. This is not for anyone who has not read the other books in the series. Fans of the series will enjoy the action.
This book both kept me on the edge of my seat, and made me cry with a brokenheart. I couldn't put it down. The battle was awesome, but I felt like I had lost real friends with the ones that died in battle. You know a book is great, when it makes you run the gambit of emotions, that this one made me feel! Greatness comes from Michael Anderle, once again! Thank you Michael!
Not as bad as the last book, or I just accepted it more. The KGU has over 100 books by a dozen authors, and Michael Anderle has a guiding hand in all the series, since they have crossover characters... so as the storyline expands, I've just started to accept I won't always know all the characters/references... I just hope that doesn't get in the way of reaching a satisfying conclusion in 5 more books...
I really like this series and this is one of the better books, but again the story jumps around too much for me, there are too many characters and too many locations. I suppose we live in a social media world were everything is conveyed in sound bites and tweets, but I much prefer a story that flows rather than a collection of short snippets. Having said that, I still enjoyed the book.
Emotional, action packed, funny, and highly entertaining!
Oh my, this one had me practically in tears dang it! So good but emotional, still action packed, funny, and highly entertaining! I wasn't expecting to get choked up though, that's for sure...this author always hits you with the unexpected and it's awesome! Loved it!
I started reading this series in April and couldn't stop, until I finished the last book. This series was totally enjoyable. Now I have too figure out, which one of the next book to read. I'm thinking between The return of Michael or maybe, Boris Chronicles. Or the other ones.
This book made me laugh and cry. So sad that those fighting against the Yollin's coming back, died while defending so many. It's an absolute tribute to Bethany Anne, where she not only recognises the humans who died, but also the Yollin's who died. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Ok, I have noticed that in a lot of places Michael does a lot warning people about the cursing in the books. I am wonder which of you are complaining? I am a sailor and the cursing in these books is mincule next to a group of Machinery Technicians in Main Prop. I loved the book, I love the cursing (I want to here, but I'll be sensored) Keep it up please.
ok chewed through last 4 books so reviews are all gonna be together. 14 great finish as they leave earth. 15 meet the aliens and good battles, 16 dealing with politics of aliens no better than humans, 17 expanding more politics new aliens and pirates argh... all and all good books they have a quick pace with lots of funny quips
As always, Anderle has several threads going as Empress BA has to deal with alien spies, alien slavers, and a counter revolution by those who refuse to have their caste system power taken from them. But Archangel and the ESD are gonna take care of business. Excellent addition to an awesome series.
