Sissy's Romance Book Review
I really loved this book! It was the first read for me by Jane Godman. I loved how the hero, Fraser and how he interacted with the heroine.. Martha Wantage. I felt for Martha and how she was hurt as a young girl. Fraser was not at first site taken with her looks but it quickly turned to desire for her and finding he can't be with out her. I liked how the Martha become more opening to life with him and their passion. This was a very "hot" book and I must have more books from this author! I hope t ...more

Hiding out behind enemy lines has landed Fraser is quite a predicament. Unwilling to leave his comrade/best friend behind, Fraser is seeking relief to help mend wounds and provide shelter until they are able to ride on. He never planned to find himself wanting to spend more time with the plain, ill-tempered Martha. He has plans for Martha and they were far from friendly to start with, making her life as miserable as possible was his goal. Bef

Really engaging highland romance set in the time of the Jacobite rebellion. Lots of action, adventure and passion in this story. I loved both the main characters, Martha and Fraser. This was not your typical light was a gritty and at times disturbing account of the time period and the people who are caught up in it. Martha had been attacked and burned as a young woman and Fraser had suffered capture and beatings, both at the hands of their English enemies. They come together unexpec ...more

I enjoyed this story. It was not super original or memorable, and I did have a couple of issues with it.

My first issue was the format and writing style. There were points where I was confused because I felt there wasn't a proper break or transition between scenes. I think there should have been page breaks between some paragraphs to separate scenes. I also didn't like how much Martha downs herself. It is good to have a less than perfect protagonist, but it would have been nice to have

Non-stereotypical heroine

So refreshing to read a story where the heroine is not a stereotypical beauty. Martha is rather plain and scarred but still manages to get her man. I enjoyed the historical detail in this story.

What an absolute marvelous read from begging to end. Truly this is a must read for all of you who enjoy reading Scottish romances. This story covers everything, love, betrayal, heartache, hope, redemption and most of all, a wonderful HEA. The characters were very well defined, the storyline filled with such vivid imagery. A Kiss for a Highlander will definitely draw on all your emotions. Very well done Jane Godman. A new author for me but an author I plan to follow. I've pre-ordered the second b ...more
