The name Victoria Whitmore bespeaks the age in which she lives, but she is no shy, retiring Victorian miss. She finds herself aboard the Algoma, traveling from staid Grand Rapids to Michigan's fashionable Mackinac Island resort. Her journey is not one of pleasure: a restful holiday does not await her. Mackinac's Grand Hotel owes the Whitmore Furniture Company money, enough to save their manufactory from certain financial ruin. It becomes Victoria's mission to venture to the island to collect payment, but her task is anything other than easy when she finds more than she bargained for.
Accustomed to challenges and bent on making the struggling Grand a success , Rand Bartlett, the hotel manager, has not counted on the challenge of Victoria--and he certainly has not counted on losing his heart to her.

Mackinac (Great Lakes Romances Book 1), by Donna Winters drew me in from the first page. I never put the book down but finished it in one sitting. I was impressed by the research that must have gone into the writing to make me feel I was there. The characters were believable and endearing, never allowing me to forget a single one. The tension was just right -- not too much but enough to keep me turning the pages. It is a lovely, innocent, clean read.

Not bad. Found it on the bookshelf in my in-laws cabin up north and read it expecting it to be terrible (I'm not huge on the romance genre) but I was pleasantly surprised. The description of Mackinac Island and it's landmarks was pretty spot on and I enjoyed the story. It's very "chaste" as it should be for the time period it takes place in.

This book was a donation to my little free libraries & being a Michigander whose favorite Michigan place is Mackinac Island, I knew I had to read this before I shared it. I was drawn in almost immediately and enjoyed the story even more than I thought I would. This book is well researched and written, I love the history in this! This is the 1st book in a short series and I enjoyed it so much that I'm planning on reading the next 2 books as well.

This well-written and researched historical romance with a Mackinac setting is another sweet, clean novel by this author who maintains a lovely, flowing, and descriptive ability of taking one back to another era. Although the timing and flip-flop aspect of the surprise romance was somewhat questionable for that era, portrayed life as it was then remained spot-on otherwise. Always enjoy this author's books, knowing I will learn something new of a setting or time in history.

O really enjoyed this book. Having recently returned from a trip to Mackinac, the details in Me Winters book were very interesting. It was just like I remember including time spent at the Grand Hotel. I would like to continue with this series after having visited the area.

A Glimpse of the Great Lakes

I enjoyed this romance between a young woman who comes to collect on a debt, but who finds more than money. An interesting cast of characters, including delightful guests and managers who are not what they seem. The plot kept me engaged. A great read.

This inspirational romance is exactly what one expects with this series, an enjoyable romp through a Great Lakes setting with lovebirds who can't quite seem to get it right until the very end. Not disturbing or difficult, just fun. If you are into this type of sweet romance, you will be very happy to read this.

Don't waste your time.

Biggest waste of my time. This is the first time reading from this author. Won't be reading anymore. This is my opinion.
