Kate Danley began her writing career as an indie author in 2010. Spirit of Denial by Kate Danley is the second book in the O’Hare House Mysteries series and is a paranormal mystery and clean romance.

This book is definitely a bit of an improvement from the first book in the series, there still wasn’t really much in the way of character growth. Like the first book, the plot progression is still a bit erratic, but it was a bit of an improvement. Surprisingly, and doubly so considering how short it is, this is a bit slow to get started, which is weird because this is essentially a direct continuation of the first book in the series.

I already have the next book in the series, so I will continue onto the next book.

Ahhh, okay, so. This certainly was a book. After reading and thoroughly enjoying the first book in this series, I was quick to buy this one in hopes that it’d be the same...it was not. Everything just felt rather meh. There was no character development, the story didn’t really develop in any interesting way, and it was just plain old bland. I think it’s clear that I shan’t be carrying on with this series. Shame.

The O' Hare House Mysteries is a quartet of stories that is really one long story. It's a charming mix of Regency murder mystery, Egyptian curses, demons, and ghosts. In Volume I, a new widow becomes involved with a medium and uncovers a series of other-worldly murders. In Volume II, just having vanquished the foe, she discovers that the curse is still a danger. In Volume III, she has finally rid the world of the curse, only to find a more earthly danger in a powerful & wealthy family. In Volume IV, the new love of her life has been falsely accused of murder. To save him, she must battle a powerful group bent on otherworldly domination.

This book was a downgrade from the first one, which was just alright to begin with. Neither Clara nor Wesley feel particularly smart and it honestly feels like they just sort of fumble around places that happen to be the right places. Their romance is also really poorly done because - just like the first one - there was absolutely no development between them and they were just suddenly in love and are carrying on as if they've been together for multiple years.

Ends pretty much the same way as the previous one. Nothing awful, but nothing spectacular.

Ghostly curses

Clara and Wesley have barely recovered from their ordeal with Lord Oroberg when they find themselves in peril again with the source of the curse. With Madeleine still recovering, Clara takes it upon herself to enlist Wesley's aid. In order to do so, she has to take the risk off taking him into her confidence about her paranormal ability.

A great follow on from book one.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I find it gripping and I can't put the books down till the end. Lovely characters. I love them all. They are kind of ordinary but very engaging and play their parts in the story to a very high degree of excellence. A very good author indeed. I am very pleased to have found her.

I decided to read it because I'd read the first book. Frankly, I'm becoming a little disenchanted with American authors attempting to write Victorian stories, even more aggravating if they're writing a story that's set in the UK with insufficient research to make it wholly believable.

I found this one to be slower and harder to get into than the first book in the series. However, it answered a lot of questions I had at the end of book one. I feel like these two books should have been combined together to create one complete story.

The novel picks up as soon as the first novel ended. The pace is strange as I believe this book with its sequels should have been reissued in one stand alone book.

Regardless, Clara embarks on a discovery trail to understand what had happened in the mansion and how did that evil spirit possessed Violet. As she attends social functions and visit scholarly authors, the change in Clara is noticeable. Few days ago ( first novel) she buried her husband, and despised social gatherings as as result of her grief. Her behavior was understandable, but her enthusiasm in this novel which illustrates a 180C departure from well founded is flabbergasting. Wesley, the love interest has taken a back seat while Clara went for Indiana Jones.

Books one and two are connected and have a fairly good conclusion at the end of the second book. Maybe the other two will be related but not include the Egyptian story.

The 2nd novel in the O'Hare House Mysteries series, this followed on immediately from the ending in the first. Quite a few storyline threads were tied up neatly in this book with a few more little mysteries to be carried into the next in the series.
It's genre is Historical/Supernatural/Romance & was a small book therefore making it a very quick read. An amusing fluffy little piece, not to be taken seriously, but enjoyable nonetheless.
