Prodding Along

Unfortunately I found the style of the writing too disruptive to the storyline. It became a chore to read as I turned to my speed reading skills to see if there was an improvement or finish to the endless world building. For me there was not.

WOW! yes, it was a bit confusing how the author decides to describe each character here, but once you figure out what the author is trying to do - WOW!

I can't wait for the next series.

OK, this review is overly long. But it's a big book, and there's a lot to talk about; not only with the seven episodes, seven story arcs, and host of main characters, but with the innovative way the author is using the digital book form as well.

First the story; almost 800 pages of it. (Though to be fair, there's a lot of detailed background stuff at the back and you don't have to read all that.) It's worth it. I just pretended I was reading three books in a row and was perfectly happy.

The Dragon Star is a book that follows one main story, but it is told from many viewpoints. At the end of each chapter you are given the choice to follow the part of the storyline that you want to. Although this is an uncommon idea (that I know of), I will admit to preferring the more 'traditional' approach of having the story take me along with it. I'm absolutely no good at having to make choices like this!

The character and world building are exceptional, as you would expect from G.L. Breedon.

An epic journey told from many different individuals' points of view. They are all moving towards the same destination but each have their own reasons and motivations.
I like the way that Breedon uses the different voices of his characters to add detail to the story and move it forward. There are many separate stories, each told from several different people's view point and there are many characters with whom to become acquainted. At first it seems a little daunting but the stories are so well

A very intriguing book, different in its style of reading!! i found it quite difficult at times to remember which part of the story i was following. Am not sure i like or am up to this style of reading, i think i would have rather a straight and plain usual book! on the other hand the strands of the tales were all very interesting and i must admit i enjoyed reading about all of them, the ending of the book came as a surprise because i did not feel that any of the tales had reached an ending in ...more

I liked the ideas behind this story, and I look forward to reading the next book!

I did, however, struggle to follow the story lines, as it jumps between characters in each chapter, and I would often forget what had happened to them in previous chapters.
