Lots of naughty, escapist fun!

Mary has a foolproof plan to help the downtrodden, destitute villagers of Dunraven, Ireland: get the English Earl's son to fall in love with her. Once she's his wife, she can use her influence to ease their suffering. Everything seems to be falling into place until her mark decides to join the Royal Navy, leaving her with just a promise that he'll marry her when he returns.

Events force Mary to go off in search of him, and she's made to disguise herself as a boy so s

I've never read C.B. Halverson before, but I'm a sucker for pirate/sea stories, and entitling a series "Irish Heroines" almost guarantees I will read it. This is also a Scorched title, which means that the heat level is high.

The Story-
Mary wants to marry Johnny so that she can take back her ancestral home, but she doesn't really love him. When Johnny goes off to war without leaving proof of their engagement, she decides to follow him. Posing as a cabin boy on a ship to find him, the Captain Gran

The Captain's Rebel surprised me in a very good way. This is the first book by the author that I have read and it was fast paced, entertaining, and scorching hot! So hot, that I thought my kindle might melt from the heat at various points in the book!

I really liked both Captain Grant and Mary. Both are strong individuals that haven't had the easiest lives and have fought and worked for everything they have. Although Mary's motives are honorable, I did have a little bit of a hard time liking her

The Captain’s Rebel by C.B. Halverson is the first story I’ve read by this author, and being a Scorched title ensures there will be steamy scenes as part of the seafaring voyage taken by the heroine to secure her fortunes. It’s a swashbuckling adventure with a side of kink that leads to a very satisfying happy ever after.

Mary O’Malley is tired of waiting. Determined to secure her rightful place as the Lady of Castle Dunraven which once belonged to her ancestors, she slowly but surely seduces a p

When I first read the book description of ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ I was immediately fascinated by this book. I love romance novels, and pirate stories so when I saw that this book was about a captain I knew I wanted to start reading this book.

In ‘The Captain’s Rebel’ we meet Mary O’Malley. Mary is determined to get her ancestors land back. To achieve that she is marrying one of her old friends, at least that is the plan. When things don’t go as planned, and her own life is in danger, Mary embarks

At first when I opened the book, I groaned because first person storytelling does not always work for me. However, by the end of the first few pages I was hooked, and I could not stop turning the pages until the end. Mary stows away as a cabin boy to serve under the magnetic and commanding Captain Grant. He is no one’s fool, he knows his “cabin boy” is a woman. I was captivated by the hint of a forbidden pleasure brewing between them. The captain and Mary’s attraction was palpable, and Mary soon ...more

4.5 smoking hot oh captain, my captain stars!

Wow. This is my first book by C.B Halverson, and it was a great one. First off, Captain Grant is just a dish of delicious. I mean, a stern, sea faring, flogger-loving hero? YES PLEASE. The heroine Mary O'Malley (who goes by several names in this story) is more than a match for him, a smart, resourceful woman with more than her fair share of secrets, and someone who is not afraid to be a wee bit ruthless to protect what she values most. The sex is HOT

I loved the beginning, in which we learn a bit about the Irish rising of 1798, Mary's role in it alongside her mother, who was killed, and Mary's consuming quest to win back her ancestral home via the seduction of and marriage to the local lord's son. I could even go along with her sudden arrest for theft and murder and her subsequent escape and journey to Gibraltar to find her fiance to clear her name. But then once she's on board ship with Captain Grant, things went downhill for me.

Whoa dude, this should come with a complimentary bucket of ice water, hold the salt! I was used to Halverson's writing from her fairy fantasy series so I was prepared for something hotter, but couldn't have known it would get so very detailed. As per her previous works I was immersed in another world, and there were some very interesting characters populating this story!
I can definitely see why this book is generating some buzz- it's got some great scenes and combines historical romance, mystery

Oooh la la!!! Very enjoyable read. Not only is The Captain's Rebel a racy and saucy dish, it is well-written! Such a delightful change of pace from the dull bits between the hot scenes that you sometimes find in the "bodice ripper" category of romance novels.
The author has definitely done his/her homework on Irish history, English history, Maritime history, and how things work on sailing ships. But not in a boring Tom Clancy way. No need to skip over the between parts. They are interesting, well

I was completely caught off guard by the heat level in this book. It was total catnip for me, and I can't wait for more from this author.

Mary O’Malley has big dreams. After the Irish Rebellion in 1798, the English rule Ireland with an iron fist. The land and its people are suffering. Mary wants to change this. She plans to marry the lord of their corner—Johnny Brighton—and use her new status to bring food and shelter to the people of Ireland. She

Well, The Captain’s Rebel certainly surprised me! Having previously enjoyed NA books from this author, and despite being warned about the content of this particular book, I guess I had preconceived notions about the writer’s ability to change age groups (and heat it up, maybe). Yeah, well, I was wrong.

I was not disappointed by the quality of the prose, nor the promise of an intriguing storyline, both things I’ve come to expect from C.B. Halverson. In fact, the storyline is so captivating, I wou

Thank you to the author and Entangled for allowing me to read an ARC

This book was not what I was expecting at all! This is 50 Shades of Pirates! I didn't even think that way of "acting" sexually existed then.

I was hooked instantly in this story. I think what intrigued me so much was Mary. She was a girl taken by a boy who made a lot of promises to her without actually keeping them. The author sets up what we'll call a weak heroine here. But then about two chapters later, she makes a 360 and sud

Okay, I know. Gorgeous cover, right? Go on, stare at it a bit. I’ll wait.

Wipe the drool off your chin now.

This book is just as delicious as that cover. The historical detail, the battle scenes, the motivations, and believability, of the main character, Mary, it’s all fantastic.

It’s not your typical arranged marriage historical romance either.

One of the things I love about Ms. Halverson’s writing (other than the fantastic sense of place I get when I read her books) is that her characte

IT IS SUPER WEIRD TO READ A HR IN FIRST P.O.V. and it started off rocky, until the characters meet for real.

As a man who observes more than he talks, he knew immediately that Michael O'Brien is actually the same woman who was assaulted by his man and demanding to know where her fiance was. WITTY MESMERICING SCORCHING ROMANCE

C.B. Halverson is a new author for me. But I love finding new authors to add to my favorites list. When I do find one I place them on my auto buy for new releases as soon as they become available. Since I am a huge fan of romance I expect to find a book that will deliver on all aspects of the actual theme and when I selected "The Captain's Rebel," as part of my review profile I was expecting to find such traits. Morosely, this was a novel that I did not overall favor as I certainly did not care for the romance that I discovered. I use the term "romance," lightly because what was exchanged between the characters within this book more sex rather than actual to-die-for romance and that just ...more

The Captain's Rebel (Irish Heroines) by C. B. Halverson is a interesting read. Normally, I do not enjoy first person reads, however, once you start reading this story, you soon forget it's written in first person, you get caught up in the story.

Captain Richard Grant and Mary O'Malley know that land, power and influence has no place where love is considered. Neither are what a appear, both have insecurities, anxieties and their multi-layered personalities, brings this story to life.

I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!

Mary O’Malley is Irish and wants to get back her ancestral home that was stolen from her family. She is friendly with the current heir who desires her. After Johnny leaves to be part of the British navy, Mary goes after him because a letter was destroyed that claimed Mary to be Johnny's fiancee and heir in case some

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from IndieSage PR*

I'm not one to love historical romances but this book has made me rethink everything I've been missing out on! Mary is an Irish born rebel who's just one of the many that suffered the effects of the Rebellion in 1798 (I actually learned something) and when the one thing to grant her home freedom disappears, she goes out to retrieve it. At all costs.

The tone of this story and writing style were amazing. I loved how stubborn s

This was my first C. B. Halverson book. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this story, I've read many books and for the most part, first person really doesn't work for me. This is not the case with this book. It was very well done.

Mary is a very strong-willed woman. She is more than happy to marry her childhood friend to regain her family's lands and to actually help the people who live on them. Mary and her beau Johnny become betrothed in secret and she is beyond happy until Johnny tells her

First off this was my first "Scorched" book. The story and characters were well written...Mary is the descendant of the owner of the Castle Dunraven. She plans on may the New Lord's son and reclaim her rightful place. The adventure and means to get it done was quite ambitious! Her Johnny goes off to war and certain twists lead Mary to go after him. She becomes a "cabin boy" to Captain Richard Grant. He knows instantly he is a she and does his best to protect her.
