STANDALONE series with some familiar characters. When Shauna's rock solid marriage falls spectacularly apart, she is left devastated and broken holding an eight-month-old baby. Nothing can erase the burning images of her husband and his assistant going at it, in a hotel room during a work conference. Her confidence dented, she agrees to a double date, a few months later, with her best friend's American boyfriend and his brother. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, Shauna enjoys the mutual attraction that's thrumming between them for the duration of his stay in London. Reuniting a few months later at the wedding of her best friend, Shauna takes full advantage of Kyle's advances as they again spend every moment together, in and out of bed. As Shauna's life falls apart in London, Kyle calls are the only thing that keep her positive. Knowing they can never be together, Shauna decides to detach from Kyle and his easy-going personality, as she tries to move on in her life. She knows her ex-husband will never allow her to take her daughter and move to another country, despite the fact he isn’t interested in being a father and there is no way the U.S border control will allow her in without it. Now they must find a way. *Please note this book contains adult sex scenes.

***TWO STARS***

I've been going through this crazy angst reading phase lately. I cannot get enough of these types of stories. Cheating stories, break up stories, divorce stories....I'm loving them all. This story should have been perfect. In fact, the sample WAS perfect. The heartbreak that Shauna went through when she found out (by reading his cell phone) that her husband was cheating on her with his assistant, when she was a new mother to a baby who was just a couple of months old. Matt leaving this new mom for his sexy bodied assistant, leaving his wife not only devastated, but insecure with her body still doughy after having his baby. THIS was perfection. I knew I had hit pay dirt when I first started this story.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
========================
Our heroine is cheated on by her husband and kicks him out of the house.
His lover is the secretary and she's a real bitch. Tipical!
She decides she will not accept him back, but wants him to have a relationship with their little girl.
Her husband is a complete asshole and fucked up her life and completely neglects their daughter.
Our hero is wonderful from the start and what would be a fling becomes something much more serious and intense.
I loved she did not accept the cheater back! This is the best thing, in my opinion.
Liked it and recommend it.

My Matt, the love of my life, the boy that stole my heart while we were in our teens, the man that promised me forever.  The only man that had kissed me touched me loved me.

‘Surprise!' I find myself calling out, sarcastically.  My voice sounds alien to my ears.  ‘Hello, Louise.  Fancy finding you here, I see you are taking care of my husband in my absence.'

I laugh, a sound nothing like my usual happy sound.  ‘What the fuck does it look like, Matt?' I marvel. ‘You're fucking your assistant,' I announce, dryly, ‘what else is there?'

‘That makes you feel good, Louise?' I ask, cattily, this time I hear the wobble in my tone.  ‘The notion that you have deprived a baby girl of her daddy? Tell me, do you have daddy issues?' I taunt.  Her smile halts and irritation hits her gaze.

Also, I should face facts. It's time to accept that Matt has moved on and I need to try to do the same.

He texted me a few days ago, to tell me he was no longer living with his mum and had moved in with his new woman.  Did I want Matt back?  No.

‘Ah, well, these things happen,’ I smile, casually.  ‘If Matt hadn't have been banging the secretary, I wouldn’t have met Kyle here,’

‘I don't give a shit about his bimbo,' I pledge. ‘I care about the environment my daughter visits. I don't even know where she lives and how clean her house is, I should be privy to that, shouldn't I?'

I should be able to trust that the man I share a child with is competent enough to put her needs before his own.  But, I don't.  Not because Matt left me for another woman, but because of the state of him this morning and his obvious impatience with Emmy.

He's never fucked anyone like Shauna.  She's pink and girly and entirely down to earth.  There are no airs and graces, no pretence, she's a single mom who is ultimately in love with her child.

He had grand plans for this brief visit to London, and he was going to meet up with old friends, military and civilians as well as catch up on a few old-flames and reacquaint himself with them temporarily.

‘You end a marriage to go off with almost a teenager, and you chastise me for finally getting myself some fine sex?’

‘Unless you have any intention of moving to the US, Shauna, I can’t see how we can do this, darlin’,’ he confides.  I nod, unable to voice all the what-ifs that are flittering through my mind.

The daughter we were once so desperate to create was now merely a drain on Matt’s time, time away from his new life and, it seems, new wife.

I realised after a discussion with my sister that I can do no more to encourage a relationship between Matt and Emmy.It was the time I started to look after myself in all of this, and this started now.

‘He doesn’t want Emmy either,’ I confess, ‘me, yeah that’s fine, he wasn’t the man I thought he was anyhow, but Emmy?’ I hiccup.  ‘She’s beautiful and full of character, how can he not want to nurture that?’ I question.

‘So, no one knows that you are not only a cheat but a shit dad who walked away from his child without so much as a backwards glance?’ I question, nastily.

‘Let me get this right. You refuse to permit your daughter, the daughter you haven’t seen for four months, as a point scoring exercise.’  I laugh, ‘you left me at home with our new-born baby while you fucked your secretary. You then left me having to sell the only home she has ever known to live in a rabbit hutch.  Oh and then abandon said baby because it doesn’t fit in with your new girlfriend’s plans, and now you stand in front of me denying me a happy ending as if all this is my fault.  What the fuck happened to you, Matt?’

‘Don’t you trust your husband, Louise,’ I tease, ‘yeah, no I wouldn’t if I was you, either.  There are bitches about that love the chase of a married man,’ I smile, cattily.

‘I’m trying here, Shauna,’ he feels irritations swirling amongst the regret in his core.  ‘Course you are,’ she taunts.  ‘It’s funny how this newfound remorse has surfaced the moment you know you are fucked!’

‘Are you fucking kidding me right now?’ Shauna spits, her eyes lighting with anger. ‘You didn’t lose us, Matt, you threw us to the kerb and kicked us in the process,’ she shouts.

=
‘You can be as sorry as you like, I will never forgive you.’ She murmurs.

Regret surges through his veins. Shauna used to look at him like that, and he knows she would never have strayed.  ‘I’ve been an arse, Shauna, but if you ever need anything, either of you, will you ask?’ He tests.

Summary: This is a cheating romance.

Additional tropes:
✅ Found family
✅ New H
✅ Other woman/other man drama

Detailed spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below.

Shauna and Matt are childhood sweethearts who have been married for several years and have a new baby. The book begins with Shauna finding some incriminating text messages between her husband and another woman while also recalling how he’s been treating her differently and distancing himself, which she now recognizes as further proof of his affair.

Knowing she needs more evidence, she follows him to the location of a work conference where she catches him in the act, leading to a confrontation where he admits he loves the other woman. Now moving through the divorce process, she meets Kyle. He’s only in London for a short time so they engage in a very intense romantic affair before he heads back to the US. She thinks that’s the last time she will see him, but it’s not and future meetings have her feelings for him becoming stronger. She’s in a bind though because she doesn’t believe a long distance relationship is sustainable and she’s convinced her ex won’t let her leave with their daughter.

The ex is a horrible father and his time with his daughter is less and less. All of this leads to his realization that he needs to just step back and let the FMC do what she needs to do with their daughter. His decision paves the way for her to make the move toward a happy and loving ending for the two of them.

⚠️SPOILERS/SPICE/DETAILED TRIGGERS⚠️

*On page, caught in the act cheating scene.
🌶️: 3/5

Final thoughts: This book started so strong for me and as it progressed, I just got bored and felt like it dragged, which is weird given that it is a short book. I remember at one point thinking I was a lot further along in the book, realizing I actually wasn’t which showed me just how much it was dragging out.

One thing I could appreciate was it felt as though the book was written from a very personal experience. I’m not saying that the author did have something like this happen, but they wrote the book as though it was personal. And that came through on the page. But overall, this just didn’t quite work for me and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Edit: I just noticed the author commented on a review listed here, something that should not have been said. I was under the impression that reader reviews were intended to create a space that was safe for readers to review books. Most authors will tell you that it’s probably not a good idea for you to read reviews and most also agree that they are intended for other readers. Had I seen what that author commented, I would never have read this book. I will never recommend this book. I will never read another book by this author. This has just left a very bad taste in my mouth.

The h notices H is distraught that he left cell phone behind.Come to find he had reason as he forgot to delete latest naughty interactions. She acts oblivious, lying in wait for opportunity to catch in the act, which she does accessing hotel room mid thrust! The younger secretary...of course. This may be cliche, but what she does next, not so much. She promptly kicked the cheater to the curb, but the now toddler that they had great difficulty conceiving,is what ties them .However soon after discovering the infidelity she Epically hooks up with super hot American military \security expert and it is

Dragged a lot. Could have been 100 page book

H-O-T

I have just found another new author.I love romantic books and that just how I roll.they not the only books I read,I just love to read and let me tell you I'm glad I found this author.who doesn't want to go on a magic carpet ride just to get away from every day problem.Shelley Michaels book had me unable to put this one down. There is heart break, loss and so much uncertainty not knowing how something could go so completely wrong and not blame yourself for your loss.not how you will face tomorrow or be able to get out of bed,but knowing you must because you have someone else depending on you and they want make it without you,so on you must go.Through all the heart break and pain Shelley Michaels spins this story of Kyle And Shauna and let me tell you she gives us a love story that will have you looking to see if we can find a Kyle out there somewhere.I cried tears of sadness but this author also had me crying tears of joy.I could go on and on but you want get the full affect until you read it for yourself,a love story that span the test of time.Read the book people you can't go wrong.HAPPY READING EVERYONE.

Enjoyed with a few exceptions

Shauna is devastated when she finds out what her husband has been doing. Matt is a tool and is all about what he wants. I mean who doesn't want a daughter ugh. But Karma gets him.

Now Kyle oh my is he swoon worthy. It takes Shauna and Kyle quite some time to finally be together because of all the hoops they have to go through. But as they say " whatever it takes".

Now for what aggravated me was from going 1st person to 3rd person. Wish it was all one or the other. Preferably 1 st.

Only two faults

I only found some small spelling errors. Also Kyle and Nate are suppose to be American I found a bunch of their dialogue with British slang. They didn't feel like true Americans, they felt British in how they talked. Perhaps more research into American dialect and speech would have made these characters more authentic.

Wow… I didn’t expect it to like this as much as I did.

I even teared up and cried a little bit when certain parts came about.

This was very emotional when it comes to a single parent and not having a bond with the sperm donor.

I’m just glad that she let her heart open up to someone new and he pushed through and climbed up that wall to be in her life, along with her baby girl.

I’m glad they got their happy ending and found a family in each other!

Omg so good

A book about a woman who recently gave birth only to find her husband with her own eyes screwing his assistant. Then dumps his ass and finds what she thinks is a fling but turns out to be true love. Great book and her cheating ass ex gets what he deserves.
