Thor Swanson is a bear shifter with a taste for danger. He's also a firefighter who's part of an elite smokejumper team. When a parachuting accident leaves him badly injured, he knows he can't go to a hospital. Unfortunately, he can't remember much else. All he knows is that the beautiful woman nursing him back to health is his. He'll protect her with his life.
A beautiful shifter in worse trouble…
Cassandra Long is a curvy sabertooth shifter on the run. Her dreams of going to graduate school crashed and burned when her father arranged to marry her off to the head of a powerful and corrupt sabertooth clan in Texas. Edward Baldwin is a beast of a man…and he wasted no time in staking his claim. Since escaping her ex-fiance's clutches, a traumatized Cassie has barely managed to stay one step ahead of the violent, terrifying shifter who thinks he owns her. The day he finds her, there'll be hell to pay.
Fated mates…or star-crossed lovers? But suddenly Thor bursts into Cassie's life. And just like that, everything changes. Deep inside, Cassie knows she has to stay close to the handsome firefighter, no matter what. It's finally time to stop running.
When Baldwin catches up to Cassie at last, Thor's determined to stop the evil shifter in his tracks. Nobody takes his fated mate. But Thor's still hurt. Can he find the strength to save her, when he can hardly remember his own last name? And can Cassie step up and save Thor right back?
Flame is a full-length steamy romance novel with no cliffhangers and a happy ending.
Ophelia Sexton is an author of paranormal romance. She has previously published historical romance under a different name, but has always loved reading about were-creatures, vampires, and other supernatural beings. She lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Cassie has been on the run from her abusive ex fiance. While watching a friend's house she gets a surprise of another shifter dropping on to her car, literally. Thor Swanson is part of the hot jumpers trying to put out a fire. Unfortunately, a gust of wind blew him off course and he crashed through the trees and onto Cassie's car.
I quite liked these two. I love how they meet and the trials they went through. Cassie was a very sensitive woman but when push came to shove, she went all sabertooth on the bad guys. I love shifter stories with unique or ancient types of shifters. Thor was an adrenaline junkie who was perfect for Cassie. He was caring and loving and just what she needed to heal from her past.
I'm glad I continued this series and plan on reading the rest now.
Warning: Heroine was abused and sexually assaulted before the story begins.
Book four in this paranormal firefighting series starts off with Thor parachuting into a wildfire where him and a fellow teammate get blown off course, sustaining injuries. Luckily for Thor, he gets taken in by Cassie....a fellow shifter....but he’s got a few problems. One, he can’t remember who he is. Secondly, Cassie smells amazing and could be more to him than he knows and thirdly, she’s in danger and he’s literally helpless.
A wonderful and intriguing start to this story and I have to admit because I didn’t know much about Thor other than brief mentions of him...I really enjoyed this story, getting to know him and I seemed to devour it, much like a wildfire❤️
I’m currently reading the boxset and will leave reviews there shortly😍
Up til this book we have only heard Thor talked about, so it was interesting to see him in person. He wasn't what I expected, but a lot of that was due to how we met Thor. Considering how Cassie met Thor I thought she managed to keep it together in a great way. I love how she seemed to bring comfort to Thor and provide a touch stone. With Thor a bit lost in his head and Cassie in trouble going back to Bearpaw Ridge was the perfect fix.
I knew Thor's family wasn't going to be happy to meet Cassie, but my god, they were horrible. I loved that Thor stood up for Cassie, basically telling them if you don't accept her we are out of here, which was as it should be.
The drama at the end was a bit crazy! I was glad that Thor could finally depend on his family to help him with Cassie.
This is a good shifter romance, with decent editing, but I did have some issues with it. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.
My main issue with this book (and the entire series, so far) is the attitude of Evan's mother toward humans and shifters that are not bears. She is terribly prejudiced against anyone that is not a bear shifter, which bothers me -- especially since three of Thor's brothers are mated to humans, and they love them. I really wanted Thor or one of his brothers to tell his mother off. Her attitude made me really angry, because I detest prejudice in any form.
I also didn't like how Thor's mother was so determined that all her sons should live close to home and help with the ranch. It didn't seem to matter to her if that wasn't what they wanted or what was best for them -- the only thing she cared about was whether it was good for the Swanson family as a whole, which to me meant what she wanted. Parents should want their children to do whatever will make them happy, even if it isn't what the parents want.
I did like both Thor and Cassie, and thought they were perfect for each other. I liked, too, what Cassie found out about her father near the end -- no spoilers here, though.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Flame is a gripping story from beginning to the end. It’s impossible to not feel Cassie’s terror or feel her determination to remain free and to not put those she cares about in danger. She’s a brave woman who doesn’t see herself that way at all. When Thor actually lands in front of her, her destiny has already been sealed.
After the accident Thor may not remember much, but he knows that this woman is worth protecting, even if he is in no real condition to do that. He’ll do everything he can to keep her safe and out of danger. Even if that means going against his family.
The pace, the action and even the tension is built up in Flame. Not only are Thor and Cassie fighting against a powerful, sneaky enemy they also have to face down Thor’s family and their prejudice against Cassie’s shifter lineage. Now admittedly, they do have their background reasons for it was a group of sabertooth cats that tried to harm members of their family not so long ago. Thor’s defense of his mate, his willingness to walk away from his entire family for her is an amazing scene.. Mamma bears should know better than to try to get between mates. The villain in this story is so easy to loathe, he is the lowest of the low – and it was pretty amazing to see Cassie deal with him. Completely satisfying.
If you’re in the mood for some fast paced action, danger, tensions, a bit of family drama and a couple to get behind from their first meeting – then Flame is a story you’ll want to pick up. I do feel that this is a series that should be read in order as events in past stories are discussed in the current one – it simply makes more reading “sense” to follow this one from the start… in my opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend this story or this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. A solid story, likable characters, a villain to hate, secondary characters to enjoy, it’s got everything a really good story needs.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I listened to this story in the Bearpaw Ridge Firefighters Boxset 1. The set has books 1 Thru 6 in this series.
Narrator is doing good. She sounds clear and she has some different voices for the different characters. Quality performance that I enjoyed listening to.
Loved the amnesia scenario in this one! Thor is a smokejumper, who ends up crashing into Cassie’s car from the sky. He’s severely injured and has amnesia, but Cassie, a saber tooth shifter, knows Thor is a shifter and can’t be taken to a human hospital. She ends up helping him out until they learn more about him and find the proper help. Unfortunately, Cassie ran away from a pride that was abusive to her, so there’s some dangerous shifters looking for her. I don’t like that she doesn’t tell Thor how much danger she’s in; especially since he’s getting brought into it. Also, why in the heck doesn’t she carry any weapons!? The suspense was great with this situation though, and made for an entertaining read. Plus, it helps seal the bond between Cassie and Thor. These two feel a romantic connection right away and they quickly start acting on, but not everyone is on board about them being together. They decide that it’s a good idea to go to Thor’s hometown, Bearpaw Ridge, when the bad shifters after Cassie get closer. Thor’s mom and his brothers had some bad experiences with Saber tooth shifters, so they aren’t exactly welcoming. I’m tired of Thor’s mom, Elle, being so judgmental; every book she has some issues with her sons mating people that aren’t bear shifters. It’s so small minded! Thor is awesome with how supportive he is though! Loved Thor! He’s a great guy. Thor and Cassie have some good passion, and their connection is so sweet. They are definitely one of my fav couples in this series so far. Them and Dane and Annabeth from the first book are my favs.
This is not the last of this particular series, however, it is the last one that I intend to read. The next revolves around Elle (the mother of all the guys) and ... Justin, I think is the name of Cassandra's father. And I'm just not up for that. I'm still quite pissed at dear old dad for the events that led to Cassie running away.
Which brings us back on topic. As a whole, the book was entertaining, but not what I would call spectacular or something I would read repeatedly. I feel seriously bad for the sabre-tooth shifters having to deal with pain and exhaustion just to connect to their beast. It doesn't seem right. I liked that Thor not only appreciated Cassie's strength and abilities as a shifter, but also did not appear to feel threatened by that.
Another great Bearpaw Ridge Firefighter story this is the fourth book in the series. It kept my interest and I found myself pulling for Thor and Cassie. Thor Swanson is a bear shifter, who is a smokejumper. During a jump his injured and has no memory. Cassandra Long a sabertooth shifter is hiding out and cares for Thor while he is injured. Thor may not know his name ,but he knows Cassie is his mate. Will he find out what she is afraid to hide out in the middle of nowhere? Will Cassie's reason for running and hiding in the woods come to light? Come read this wonderful story for yourself and find out the answers. I give it 5 stars. "I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".
Thor literally crashes into Cassie's life in his wild ride as a Hotshot wildfire firefighter. Fortunately, the bear shifter is: 1) tough and 2) found by the caring and talented Saber tooth Tiger Shifter - Cassie. What follows is a story full of amnesia, a rampaging ex, suspicious family, firefighting bear shifter hotshots and Saber Tooth Tigers! The core of this story is overcoming fear, be it psychological or physical. And concluding with love and romance all around.
Flame: Bearpaw Ridge Firefighters Book 4 By Ophelia Sexton Kindle unlimited purchase Cassie is a Sabertooth shifter. She is on the run. Now she might get her Happy Ever After. Thor left his home town to be a "full time" firefighter, the pay and benefits. He never thought that would lead to him finding his mate. This book one wild ride from the first page to the last. Loved this book. Loved how we get to "see" all the characters again. Book 5 here I come
Thor and Cassie are quite the couple 💑. This is the fourth book in the Bearpaw Ridge Firefighters Series but can be read as a standalone novel. The road trip that Thor and Cassie make is just wonderful. Arriving in Bearpaw Ridge is challenging to say the least for Thor and Cassie but eventually they get their HEA.
After a parachuting accident bear shifter Thor is rescued by Cassie who is hiding out from her pack. With amnesia Thor has no idea who he is or where he is from. After seeing the news Cassie figures out what happened. Salle Thor knows is Cassie is his and he will do anything to keep her safe. Plenty of action, suspense and romance.
Cassie and thor had many obstacles to overcome but they had their HEA well written to carry on with this series Thor and amnesia from his jump into the fire zone and cassie thought she wasn't worthy but all came together in the in would highly recommend this series upbeat romance problems and their HEA :)
I think I have a thing for the vulnerability if the big strong shifter men. Although, this series is so different from the other shifter books 'be read. Book four is the first shifter book to show discrimination. Thor is my hero because he fought his family for his mate. I love 💘Cassie who came out of her shifter shell she kicked butt. Bravo!
These bear shifter brothers are something! Thor is so sweet - even in the condition he’s in when Thor and Cassie meet. What a way to meet your fated mate. So much is against them and they manage to make their way through it all and come out on the other end for their happily ever after. Love this couple and this whole family!
This is a great story. This is one of my favorite series, love the Bearpaw Ridge Bears they treat their mates awesome. It might take them a minute to figure it out but when they do everything gets hot and sweaty quickly.
Love this family. Each one of their story are so good. The action and suspense is so good. I can't wait til I see what is coming up in the next story. The love of family in this story is good
First book that we get with Thor. And though I love this series. I didn’t love this book. It’s a cute story. It’s just that we haven’t gotten to know much about Thor. So I wasn’t invested in his story as I was with others. Cute though.
Great storyline and character development made this book a hot and enjoyable read! Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author.
This book📚 from this series was the most interesting reads I have read! It was filled with family, friendship, loyalty, drama, action, romance and love💘. If this is any indication that the rest of the series has this much effect on me, than I all for it!
This series is such a treat! I kept waiting for Cassie to come out and release her sabortooth! I loved how she made her stand. I love the fireman series.
Elle is a hard women she got on my last nerves in this book but i KINDA get her but i kinda dont i love how cassie had to embrace her inner apex predator
