Thunder Mountain Brotherhood #9
In the Cowboy's Arms
Return to Thunder Mountain
Matt Forrest was born to be an actor, but grew up a cowboy. That's why, when things go haywire after he shoots his first Hollywood movie, he retreats to Thunder Mountain Ranch. Because it's home--where his parents and foster brothers can help Matt find what he really wants out of life. So when someone he wants follows him to Wyoming, things get very interesting!
PR agent Geena Lysander isn't about to lose one of her best new clients--so she goes after him! And, yes, it's complicated...because she is attracted to Matt, and not just for his movie-star looks. As she gets to know the man behind the cowboy, their professional relationship becomes passionately personal. Could Matt's next big role be as Geena's leading man?

I feel the need to say sorry to myself. It doesn't matter which VLT story I read, they are so flipping good and they are never "samey". That's what I love most about these stories. Always a HEA, but the main part of the book has always a different twist.

Plot: 4/5
Characterisation: 4/5
Prose: 4/5
How much I enjoyed it: 4/5
Its interesting to see a character at the starting of his Hollywood career instead of the usual story where the main characters are at the height or downfall of their career.

In the Cowboy’s Arms by Vicki Lewis Thompson is the first of her Thunder Mountain Brotherhood series to be featured as part of the Harlequin Special Edition imprint, necessitated by the upcoming closing of the Harlequin Blaze line. While the heat factor has been tamed a bit as a result, the story still delivers an entertaining and sexy read, with familiar characters from previous stories giving some cameo appearances in this Hollywood superstar/cowboy romance.
Matt Forrest is one of the foster sons taken in by the Padgetts at Thunder Mountain Ranch in beautiful mountainous Wyoming. Growing up on the ranch after being abandoned by his mother, he’d developed solid friendships with his foster brothers and has become a handsome and hardworking man, with a talent for acting. He’s parlayed that into his first big acting gig in Hollywood but it’s come with a price – a female co-star, stung by his rejection of her, has made the press believe he’d been engaged with her in an adulterous affair. Needing some time to himself to sort out what to do about the scandal, he’s come home.
Geena Lysander was never able to parlay her acting ability into a career in front of the camera, but off set she’s a valuable and sought after public relations agent. Matt is her client, and she has ideas of how to handle the scandal brought on by his co-star. But Matt takes off for his family ranch, not wanting to listen to any advice that doesn’t involve telling the truth of what really happened. Geena realizes she’s taken the wrong tack with Matt and follows him home. Once there, the sparks of attraction that had flourished between them back in Hollywood can’t be denied, especially when they are spending time alone together in the calm countryside. Can Geena find a way to help Matt through this crisis, and show him that working together as a team can lead to something more?

I’m a bit behind with this series but I devoured the first three books so when this one popped up, I was each to get my hands on it. Sadly, this one just didn’t hold my interest.
Here’s what’s going on. When Matt finds himself in a scandal, he heads back home to Thunder Mountain Ranch and to the love and support of his foster family. Not wanting to make her PR company look bad, Geena, his agent, follows him and soon the line between personal and professional become blurred.
I’ll admit it: this book bored me, which was a pity considering how engaging the first three books in the series were. I just couldn’t get invested in either Matt or Geena. If he’s going to be an actor, he needs a tougher skin. Seriously, it’s Hollywood, the place was built on scandal. And Geena only thinking about what looked good for her company just left a bad taste in my mouth. So, it definitely wasn’t the best introduction to the characters and it really pulled me out of the story. For me, PR agents as characters sort of fall into that same iffy category as journalist.
I’m sort of wondering if it had something to do with this being the first in the series printed under the Special Edition Imprint rather than Blaze (since Blaze is no more). Whatever the reason, this one just wasn’t for me.

I have read Vicki Lewis Thompson for ages. We're talking, I've read her books since she wrote for the Temptation line. (That's a very long time) This is her first special edition, because the Blaze line is going away. (sniffle sniffle). Her books are always hot and sexy. As I haven't been a fan of that heat level lately, I was kind of glad to find that toned down for this imprint.
I liked that Matt was an actor. It made things different, as I'm used to harlequin novels being billionaire mogels or sheikh's. Geena is is PR, whose job is keeping him out of trouble, which he has managed to do, because of the leading lady on his first film, who has it in for him since he turned down her advances.
The romance between Geena and Matt takes off pretty quickly once she joins him on his family ranch. (Maybe a little too quickly if you like a little reality in your romance, but this is harlequin and love happens that fast in these books)
What I liked about Matt was his character. He was an actor, which isn't a usual occupation, but he was also a cowboy with a very strong moral compass. I loved the Thunder Mountain Brotherhood and the closeness between the "brothers." It really is what family is about.
The only thing that kept this from being an over the top fabulous read are a lot of the issues that got wrapped up too neatly at the end. (The original issue and another issue with his birth mother) I really felt that a book that had its plot rooted in a scandal should have had some confrontation of something with the troublemaker actress that started it all.
This was still a fast fun and sexy read. Vicki doesn't disappoint.

Another 5 star plus book by Vicki Lewis Thompson.... IN THE COWBOY'S ARM (Thunder Mountain Brotherhood) Matt and Geena both raised by single selfish mothers...his deserted him .... Matt the movie star and Geena his PR agent...add some scandal and the brotherhood and a strong attraction and you have a great story. Vicki always makes me feel a part of the story...I laughed and cried..happy tears... can't wait for Zeke's story in SAY YES TO THE COWBOY in July.

All Matt wanted was to follow his dreams, until he lost himself along the way. It would take a visit home and a tenacious woman to help him find himself again. Ms. Thompson makes it easy to get lost inside her stories. She takes readers through the looking glass with realistic characters and familiar situations. By speaking to the heart she creates masterfully written stories of courage, redemption and introspect. In the Cowboy's Arms is a story of the many loves life offers and the trials faced when it comes time to accept. The hardest scenario to be faced is to relinquish control and trust emotionally. Geena and Matt are learning that some of the best lessons are taught by listening to the heart.

In The Cowboy's Arms by Vicki Lewis Thompson. A Thunder Mountain Brotherhood series. Matt Forrest has always wanted to be a actor. He grew up a cowboy in a foster home with several foster brothers. In his first Hollywood movie the leading actress flirted with Matt. He paid her no attention. She corned him one day and kissed him. She is married and said Matt was the one to kiss her. Matt goes home to his foster parents house in Thunder Mountain. Matt's PR agent Geena Lysander follows him to Thunder Mountain. They have to do something to right this wrong.

Matt Forrest is the latest Thunder Mountain Brotherhood member to find his HEA. I liked how Vicki has painted a very different picture of each man as they come home to the Thunder Mountain Ranch. Matt has just been set up by a co-star and is not happy about his PR person's reaction. The fun begins from there as Matt gets the support he needs on his return. Gene Lysander handles Matt's PR and when she follows Matt home she learns that the support she gets at Thunder Mountain is something she also needs. A nice story with a great HEA.

SOOO DISAPPOINTED with this book! I thought moving the series from Blaze to Special Edition would finally force VLT to write a real story, instead of just gratuitous sex scenes interspersed with the characters thinking about & talking about sex! But NO...still just nothing but SEX.
I am SHOCKED that Harlequin would even publish this sex, sex, & more sex story under their "Home & Family" Special Edition line.
I don't mind a little smut--but nonstop makes for boring reading. Guess VLT will be off my list for future reading--not worth the time & money.

SE2553 Jun17 Thunder Mountain Brotherhood #9 Matt Forrest and Geena Lysander. Matt returns to Thunder Mountain Ranch after the married actress in his first movie lies about them having an affair. His PR agent, Geena, follows him not wanting to lose one of her best new clients. Getting to know him she realizes he had nothing to do with the actress. Now she has to figure out how to get the truth out.
Enjoyed the follow up of the lives of young boys who Rosie and Herb fostered. Their respect and love shines.

In the Cowboy's Arms by Vicki Lewis Thompson
Part of the Thunder Mountain Brotherhood series and can be read as a standalone romance.
Family and connections. Loyalty and manners. Hardworking Cowboys and instant attraction. Unselfish protection.
I love the deep connections in the brotherhood and their mutual support of everyone in the family. It's like a big hug of romance and comfort.
