"Everything heaven has is open to anyone who meets God's requirements. But we must go after it. Blessing and power will not be handed to us." (Lester Sumrall, Take It...It's Yours: Seizing Your Spiritual Dominion)
The Author presents the principles of dominion in this book that belong to the child of God - those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, and do what He says. He teaches on how we (human beings) received dominion starting in the Garden of Eden, how we lost it through sin, and how we can take it back through Jesus' finished work on the cross, and keep it for the glory of God. He says, "Mathematics has its authority - its rules, formulas, and equations. Music has its authority-its rules of harmony, time, and progression. Christianity, too, possesses unique authority."
When I was reading this book, I felt some chains come off that were holding me back from taking dominion over the flesh, the world and the devil. I learnt taking dominion doesn't have to be a struggle because our victory and the work has already been done through Jesus on the cross. In one place in this book he says, "Having dominion gives you the ability to relax. Relaxing means releasing. Releasing gives your being over to God for His care. When your emotions are in the care of our Almighty Lord, stress and struggle have no place in your life." The Holy Spirit reminded me of the words of Jesus as I read this:
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29).
He talks about many ways we can take back our dominion. The chapter that particularly spoke to me was how to take dominion in your mind. One quote from his book on this topic:
"God wants the human mind under divine subjection. It should be directed through the human spirit by the Holy Spirit. But the devil wants to capture the human mind because the mind of man is so important. It is a perpetual battlefield. The mind suffers greater onslaughts from the powers of darkness than any other part of the human personality. Christians are commanded to renew their minds. (See Romans 12:2.) How? With the Word of God. We are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (See 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.) We are in control what our minds think. (See Philippians 4:8.) The mind, when yielded to your human spirit that is yielded to the Holy Spirit, is active and powerful. You can have the mind of Christ! (See 1 Corinthians 2:16.)
Chains will fall off and authority and dominion restored to the believer in these last days. However, if we don't know that we possess this authority and dominion; how can we exercise it? I have good news for you, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus, and He turned around and gave it to us.
This book opens to you the treasuries of heaven and unlocks the power of God, spiritual weapons, and authority in Jesus. It equips the believer for victory and spiritual dominion for these last of the last days! Amen.
