Second Chance Love

When monsters descend on Earth, the Galactic Guardians follow. In the process, Bryce finds his true love is alive. Twenty years after she was forced to leave her planet, Laila discovers she and her daughter aren't safe from the monsters so killed her family. How does she tell Bryce he has an adult daughter? Jessica Subject weaves a heart wrenching story of love lost, love found, but a love that can't be. Action packed and fast moving with strong characters you'll root for and want them to have their HEA.

This is a novella – so not long. Like many novellas I read, it comes with the usual complaint – too short. In this case, more background story on the hero, heroine and other characters is what I felt I needed to really appreciate the story. Basically, I needed more of what motivates these characters.

Without that detail though, Bryce is a short feel good adventure and romance. Despite the fact that there are icky monsters. Make that gross, horrible monsters. The presence of the Erebus on Earth is what brings Bryce to this world to protect the inhabitants from those creatures. Lalia just happens to be living on Earth, and apparently, attracting Erebus. After thwarting the Erebus attack, Bryce recognizes the lost princess of Hemera and his former lover. Princess Lalia ends up bound for her former home on a ship with her daughter and the man she thought she would never see again, Bryce.

The exiled princess is unsure of her position on her home world and now she has a daughter to worry about. The daughter, who’s father was killed by the Erebus back on Earth, is headed for a completely foreign world and she too, is wondering what awaits her. Her presence in the story add a nice level of complexity to an otherwise straightforward story.

Bryce is the strong Defender of the Galactic Alliance, faithful and bound to follow orders, to do his duty. How can the princess and her defender possibly find a life together? The story is one of regrets for lost love and hope for a better future.

Do you want to see fated lovers overcome banishment, duty and icky monsters to enjoy a HEA in a short SciFi Romance. Then might I suggest Bryce?

Good story. In this book, the first in The Galactic Defenders series, we are introduced to Bryce and to the girl who broke his heart years ago.

It's a good love story, fraught with perilous events. And Jessica Subject proves how adept she is at alien world-building. I have to tell you, I sure don't want to meet one of the Erebus--villainous creatures crossing the universe killing anything and everything they come across.

There's plenty of action, and the descriptions keep the reader immersed in the tale.

When I finished this book, I immediately started reading book # 2 in the series.

Bryce and Laila should have been together but war and meddling parents tore them apart. When they meet years later, and Bryce discovers they have a daughter, there are no meddling parents but there are still battles to fight both physically and mentally before can be together. A lovely story and a great start to the series.
