This is book four in the series featuring Rosco, a friendly German shepherd and his human owners, James and Mandy. The siblings are participating in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. James is walking with Rosco. Mandy has borrowed her neighbors' dog, Sparks so that she could have a pet to walk in the parade. When another dog nips at Spark's ear, he breaks away from Mandy. The McKendrick siblings frantically search for Sparks.
Along the way, readers learn about St. Patrick's Day through the eyes of those attending and participating in the parade. Irish bagpipes, kilts, step dancers, St Patrick, and leprechaun lore are featured. Mandy has been experiencing bad luck all week since she decided not to build a leprechaun trap for a school project this year. James reveals a legend that if a human should succeed in capturing a leprechaun, he must grant three wishes in order to gain his freedom. When Mandy and James encounter a man dressed as a leprechaun on one of the floats, he confirms the tale. That gives Mandy an idea. Will Rosco and his human owners succeed in their quest to find Sparks? Can Mandy break the chain of her bad luck?
This charming early chapter book with delightful illustrations is a fun adventure that encourages children to be responsible and shares a bit of Irish culture. Highly recommended for children ages seven through ten.
Well the grand-kids are reviewing again and they absolutely loved Roscoe. The 3 year old had us read it twice. It has quickly become her favorite. Great story kept them entertained and engaged. Read easily to the younger ones by the 9 yr old.
Kya and Shaun - loved the dog and wants to make a trap for Leprechauns now. Thought the story was cute and liked the little girl
A great story for young readers. Rosco is a rascally dog that keeps you entertained. This story is of the luck from leprechauns during St Patrick's Day and what happens if you lose your luck. A feel good story that will keep kids entertained as they listen to the story. This is my honest opinion of an advanced reader copy.
Roco the Rascal at the St. Patrick's Day Parade is a Magical book!
Rosco the Rascal at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade by Shana Gorian is a magical children’s book for St. Patrick’s Day! This is book number four in her Rosco the Rascal series. I read the book with my second-grade class and they absolutely loved it! The fun begins when James and Mandy go to New York City to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade with Rosco their German Shepard and his pal, Sparks, a pug who belongs to their neighbor. The story continues with Mandy losing Sparks after a Yorkie nips his ear and Sparks runs away. Mandy catches up with her brother, James and tells him what has happened. Meanwhile, Mandy is convinced she’s been jinxed with bad luck by the Leprechauns because she didn’t want to make a Leprechaun Trap for the school project. Her brother assures her that is impossible because of the legend of the three wishes. According to the Irish folklore legend, if you catch a Leprechaun he must grant you three wishes in exchange for his freedom. James, Mandy, and Rosco set out to find Sparks in the crowded parade. As luck would have it, they meet a Leprechaun in the parade named Mr. O’Donnell. Mandy rushes up to him and asks him if the legend of the three wishes is true. Of course, the legend is true, O’Donnell exclaims! Why do you ask? Mandy tells him how the Leprechauns jinxed her with bad luck and how she lost Sparks. “Oh no, that's a sad story,” O’Donnell says, “let me see what I can do to help you.” Mandy only has two wishes to find Sparks and have her good luck restored. O’Donnell disappears into the crowd. Now, Rosco sniffs a familiar scent and the children let him lead the way to the rainbow float. Will Rosco find a treasure at the end of the rainbow float? You will have to read the book to find out. This book is delightful for children of all ages. It includes a vocabulary page of Irish words that will make the children giggle. 5 Stars for Rosco the Rascal at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
This is a delightful story for young readers that feels like something children could actually have happen in their own lives and that makes it even more fun.Mandy and James are brother and sister. They have a German Shepherd named Rosco. Mandy is also taking care of a neighbor's dog. Sparks. When they all go to the St. Patrick's day parade, Sparks comes up missing and the hunt to find him begins. The story includes some legends and folklore about Leprechaun's and makes this a great adventure for all.
Great family fun. I enjoyed the way Irish folklore was woven into this entertaining story of James, Mandy, their intelligent dog, Rosco, and Sparks the pug. Sparks is lost in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Is Mandy’s luck lost just like Sparks? Could the cause be leprechauns’ shenanigans? This is a wonderful children’s chapter book, fun for all ages.
I was disappointed that the interior illustrations were not comparable to the cover. Also I am told that the story is disappointing. Rosco is not rascally enough, and despite the title had far to little to do for far too long. A book about dogs not kids was desired.
The younger readers this is aimed at will find the parade details interesting and the glossary helpful. They will probably enjoy the idea of leprechaun traps. I just found some parts to be unnecessarily repetitive.
A cute Kids/YA book. An enjoyable book - I love Roscoe, the German Shephard! And a pug is always of big interest to me.This is the first one in this series that I've read.
