I previously read this book 5 years ago but stumbled across it again recently. The title again fascinated me since my parents also experienced an "escape from East Prussia" at the end of WW II. It is a very short book (60 pages) and that is its downfall. It is only partially about the actual escape from East Prussia and, as might be expected from a book of this minimal length, detail about the escape is lacking. What is there in the book is interesting, but I wish it were 4-5 times as long so more detail about the escape and life in East Prussia during this time could be provided.

Short in length and details

This "book" reads more like an outline for a story. It's impersonal and sparse on details. I appreciate that the author had probably wanted to share her story for decades. However, she should have worked with an editor or, at the very least, added a lot more detail.
