About the author

Denise Crittendon is an awardwinning journalist, author and teen motivational speaker. She's the former editor of the NAACP's Crisis Magazine and has served as staff writer for numerous publications including The Detroit News and The Kansas City Star where she often filled in as editor of the teen page. The veteran journalist is author of "Girl In The Mirror, A Teen's Guide To Self Awareness," a book that has been lauded by Essence Magazine, Rawsistaz.com, The Detroit Free Press and national radio personality and CNN pundit Joe Madison, aka, The Black Eagle. Her passionate writings and dedication to youth has earned her countless awards, including The Spirt of Detroit Awards, One of the Most Influential Black Women In Metropolitan Detroit and the Life Direction's Mary J. Ball Children's Advocacy Award.

The teen years are often full of angst and stress. Trying to keep up with school, family, and friends with a good attitude can be truly exhausting. Sometimes you fail and find yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself, causing your self-confidence to take a major dip. The importance of loving yourself, the power of your thoughts, and the fact that, ultimately, you are the person in charge of your destiny; all that and more is covered in this inspirational book.

With just seventy-two pages, GIRL IN THE MIRROR is a quick read that is full of great messages for teen girls. At the end of each chapter are a few questions and activities that can be done to further cement the points of a chapter into the reader's mind. Each chapter is thought-provoking, bringing up the importance of controlling your own destiny through your attitude and actions.

Denise Crittendon's writing style is friendly and relatable, as if she were sitting in the room talking to you. She always supports and encourages the reader on her path to finding her true self-worth. She does a great job of showing each girl her importance in this world.

This book would be an ideal pick for a book club in which teen girls take part. There is a lot of material in this book that could spark significant conversations.

After reading GIRL IN THE MIRROR and applying its principles, you'll feel strong, encouraged, and ready to take on the world.

Girl In A Mirror goes beyond providing solutions to today's teenage girl on how to manage and conduct theirselves as young ladies. It provides the steps and tools needed for teenage girls to become positive, and productive God Fearing women. The solutions Ms.Critedon provides in her guide are writen and easily understood. The self explanatory lessons enclosed in this guide are powerful! The assignements do indeed provide solutions! This book has the power to change the mindset of teen girls everywhere. I am going to incorporate the excercises from this book into some of my mini lessons with my youngsters. I know they will benefit from the lessons tremendously. Great job Ms. Crittendon.
