Supernatural™ Travel on the Highway to Hell through the dark corners of America
Supernatural, the hit show from The CW, continued to garner critical praise and attract an ever-increasing legion of fans as it ramped up the scares and tension in the explosive and electrifying third season.
With Dean having struck a deal with a Crossroads Demon in exchange for Sam's life, the Winchesters step up their hunt as Dean's last year ebbs away. While they try to complete their mission to locate and destroy the demons that escaped from the Devil's Gate, Sam also searches for a way to save Dean. On the journey, they confront creatures most people believe exist only in folklore and nightmares, including the Seven Deadly Sins, changelings, a ghost ship, and even fairy tales come to life!
This official companion is packed with exclusive interviews, photos, behind-the-scenes secrets, the low-down on the show's supernatural entities, and a complete episode guide. Plus, a color portrait gallery of the stars!
Another riveting guide to the CW hit television show, Supernatural: The Official Companion Season 3 provides in-depth analysis and a behind-the-scenes look at the series. Author Nicholas Knight reviews each episode of the season and interviews the cast and crew; discussing how the episodes were developed and filmed. Additionally, he spotlights various mythological creatures depicted and their lore. Also featured are character profiles and developments within the franchise; including the comic book series and the novel tie-ins. And a colored photo gallery is included in addition to the screenshots and stills used throughout the book. Supernatural: The Official Companion Season 3 is an incredibly comprehensive and fascinating retrospective of one of the best shows on television.
I've stopped watching Supernatural 2 seasons ago but I'm trimming down my TBR and I had this guide on it.
I love behind the scenes stuff and it's nice to read about the show early years (even if I watched it years later) but damned! Every quote from the writers/producers/execs I read about a female guest star is about how "sexy/hot/easy-on-the-eyes" she is and justify how they treat their female characters and reminds me how annoying and sexists this show is (Page 108 has an shiver inducing quote from Jared Padalecki about what having "girls" on a show means in the industry - barrfff) and that they sounds like pretentious jerks. And I'm glad I'm not watching anymore.
No matter how sexy Jensen Ackles is ahah
But it's still a nice guide about the show. Those companions are in black and white so the pictures are not that good but there is a lot of text and info about the show, which is exactly what it's supposed to be, so that's good.
This book is fantastic and necessary for all fans of the show. It's the first companion guide I've been able to get my hands on and I was pleasantly surprised. With character profiles for everyone from the big two to smaller characters who left a big impression, no one is left out. It takes you behind-the-scenes of makeup, location management, prop design, etc. It was fascinating to learn the process from the creator to the wardrobe designer, not to mention learning some cool tidbits about our favorite boys!
With tons of inside views, inside information and descriptions of every episode, and lots of shiny pictures!
A MUST for every Supernatural fan. This show is so very very pretty, and OMFG are we really in season 9???? I'm just so happy for everyone involved that SPN has been such a success! Who'd have thought back in season 1, when it started as a badly written B-movie wannabe somewhere in the Canadian woods?
Since I started watching this series in the middle of season 4, then discovered how much I love it, I've been catching up with the dvd's. What I'm doing with this companion is reading about the episode right after I've watched it so it's fresh in my mind, and I can read about any details I may have missed. Fun facts about everyone involved in the show, and best of all they go into a little detail about all the lore contained in each episode.
I am a recently convertly Supernatural fan and I think these companions are up there with the best of them. Not quite as meaty or as bitchy as the unofficial Buffy ones (like 'Dusted' or "Redeemed') but quality enough to be critical when necessary, while giving deeper insight into the aspects and creative choices of the actors and crew. Also it just gets an extra half star for three little words....Jensen. Ackles. Lips. *thud*
I have some episode guides to Buffy and boy are they good - so I had expectations for this but was very disappointed in what I got. There was very little new or interesting and as for the colored photos ...if I was 12 maybe I would like it. Now that I think of it, the show is geared toward a younger audience maybe that is the problem. Although so was Buffy but the episode guides weren't. Overall ..money not well spent.
These are just brilliant. I love the small tidbits that you get while looking through and reading it. I also love that they put the information about the songs that were prominent in that episode. I sometimes don't remember who the artist was on a particular song and this is the perfect memory jogger.
Just like the other Supernatural companions, most of this is in black and white, but there's a full colour insert with promo pictures and photos of the set. There's sections on each episode and character, and a bit finding out what the cast and crew are scared of... pretty fun.
I'm a huge SPN fan, but i found this book just meh. Some of the tidbits were interesting, but I was hoping for more between the scenes candid photos and less plot summaries.
