5 - "I'd hate you if I didn't want you so damn much..." Stars!

We return to Haven, North Carolina for the third book in Rachel Lacey’s outstanding Risking it All series.

I have a huge soft spot for this series, in that it introduced me to Rachel’s wonderfully warm writing style and likeable characters, I have loved each and every book in this series, and have been dying to read Mark and Jessica’s book, Can’t Forget You did not disappoint in any way, and it was great to finally get into Mark’s head, because although he has been very visible in the previous books, he has kept himself pretty closed off and out of the action.

The spark between them had never completely faded…

This is a couple with history, ten years’ worth in that as high school sweethearts Jessica firmly believed that they would be together for the long haul, that was up until Mark enlisted and dumped her on his way out the door too boot-camp.

"Maybe we should quit thinking about the past and just focus on the present."

You start to find out more about his motivations regarding the way things ended between them as the book progresses, and I liked that the author didn’t make this story just about that, Jessica has her own issues to deal with, and the addition of Bear the dog, gave them a secondary connection outside of their initial failed relationship.

What would it feel like to come home to a wife, a couple of kids? The idea was so foreign that he couldn’t even imagine it…

This is a couple that both have their own issues and obstacles to overcome, especially in regards to having a healthy functioning relationship with each other. As you would expect there are highs and lows between them, but everything was spaced out really well, the addition of all the characters that I have come to know and love in the previous books gave great depth, and I just loved this story from start to finish.

"I can’t stay away from you no matter how hard I try…"

"...That makes two of us."

I hope this isn’t the end of the series, there were a couple of teases of potential, possible future characters, and I hope the author is given the opportunity to explore those avenues, if she has the story-lines for them.

Hero broke up with heroine after high school without a goodbye to join the army. A suicide bomber ends his career and he comes back state side to run an adventure company with two buddies. The hero and heroine end up having to buy a parcel of land together and reconnect from there.

This was so lifeless and had a couple paint-by-numbers points, highschool love, PTSD from military service, and abandonment issues from parents. Then had a couple random thrown in points, heroine suffering from mysterious illness, turns out to be , and None of the random points are really fleshed out, especially the last one, a lot of what was the point, story elements going on.

The romance and relationship development between the two was seriously lacking, they just kind of start meeting up and then having sex again. This was a lifeless story that felt like it was just going through the motions.

This is another novel that although it's a third in a series, it can still be easily read as a standalone. It will spoil the relationships that develop in those two previous books though. I haven't read the two previous books in this series but after reading this novel, I'm interested in going back and reading about those two other relationships.

This was a cute and fun read but it also included a modicum of depth and level of seriousness. In fact, at one point, I thought the story was going to take a real DARK turn. I'm thankful that it was just me jumping to conclusions because I don't know if I would have been emotionally prepared for that level of depth being introduced to the storyline.

It was a quick read that definitely hit its mark for 'steam' factor. It was unexpectedly HOT. The chemistry between the two main characters was dynamite and I was all for it!

Overall, it was a fast-paced, cute and emotional read. I think there were aspects of both characters that were relatable and for that reason alone, I enjoyed the story even more. I'm hoping the other novels in this series are just as enjoyable.

I’ve enjoyed Rachel Lacey’s Risking It All series immensely and Can’t Forget You was a great addition to the series. Teenage lovers are reunited in this contentious yet heart- warming romance.

I’m always a bit fascinated when people who were together in high school are reunited years later and the attraction and passion is still there despite the years apart. In this case the boy from the wrong side of the tracks joined the Army and left the good girl without even a good-bye. Ten years later he is back in town and in business with his two best friends and they are competing against her for a piece of land that sits between their respective businesses.

Mark Dalton has aspirations of being career Army, but after a bomb ends those plans he is back in his hometown and running an adventures company with his friends and quietly trying to avoid Jessica Flynn, the woman who he left behind almost ten years ago, but with them both trying to buy the same property and then agreeing to buying it jointly they end up spending more and more time together making it harder for them to deny the attraction that still boils between them.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit and it was easy to see that Mark was a bit of a tortured soul. Abandoned at a young age, Mark has never quite understood how relationships work and while Jess goes all in, Mark holds back which causes a bit of conflict between them. I was glad to see Mark grow in this story and begin to understand what it took to be in a relationship and Jess’s ability to forgive and understand where he was coming from is what made this book work. I also appreciated that with Mark was there for Jess during her medical crisis and stayed by her side through her diagnosis and treatment. While he had his faults, he proved time and time again he was loyal and cared fiercely for Jess even when it was hard for him to admit his ever deepening feelings.

A strong willed but emotionally stunted hero, a feisty, smart heroine and a whole lot of patience and love made Can’t Forget You an entertaining romance.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER/AUTHOR THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I've been pleasantly surprised by this entire series, so this book was no exception to that standard either! It made me very interested in reading more of this author's small town romances!

I really enjoyed the second chances trope in this story, and it is rare that I do enjoy those types of stories. Jessica and Mark reminded me of the story of my romance with my current husband, which was a tribute to the storytelling that the author did. Mark even reminded me of my husband, with his failure to communicate, even though that was a mark against him as a character!

I liked the side storyline of Jessica's illness. It imparted some interesting information about the disease, without going into excessive detail. It made me wonder if the author had experienced anything similar, which made the character easier to relate to.

I liked seeing how the previous couples in the series were doing, as it gave me a glimpse into their lives after the Happily Ever Afters. This is definitely a book where reading the previous books in the series enhances the book, even if it isn't absolutely necessary to do so.

All things considered, this was a great read, and I see a lot of potential for continuing the series with other heroines from Jessica's circle of friends. I would definitely recommend reading this book!

MY RATING 3/5 STARS

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first novel from Rachel Lacey and upon closer inspection of my shelves, I apparently bought two books she's written for Forever Romance. I didn't know what to expect from Rachel but I was happy with how Can't Forget You started. You're never wrong when you first start off with a book about two ex-lovers who are pitted against each other who want the same property so they can either build a bigger spa (Jessica) or build a bigger obstacle course (Mark). It's also never wrong when we start off the book with the classic scene with the hero or heroine falling sick and the other person has to take care of them and nurse them back to health.

However, I have to be really honest and tell everyone that I actually lost interested after the first couple of chapters of this book. It didn't grip me like other romances would and honestly, it bored me a bit. Halfway through the book, the couple weren't even working against each other anymore since someone else out bid them for the property all together. They had to put their differences aside and work together to gain what they both wanted. The book was supposed to have this epic love-hate steamy romance I was so used to for enemies to lovers romances but I didn't get it from this one. It fell flat and disappointed me. The only reason why I continued to read this book was because I wanted to know what the heck was wrong with Jessica!

Jessica fell sick in the beginning of the book but for an unknown reason and it kept up the intrigue. Was Jessica going to die from cancer? Was she pregnant? I don't know. I had to keep reading to figure it out.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

I suggest to read this book if you're a fan of Rachel or if you want to read a lighter version of an enemies-to-lovers novel.

I have to tell you there is nothing I like better then reading a romance and having a good feeling about the main characters. You want, no need them to be together. Right away you see that they are meant to be. Now if someone...Mark (I know, usually I'm more mad a heroine for something) would get over himself and man up we could move on and be where we need to be.

Oh he (Mark) is so frustrating. At times I wanted to yell at him to deal with his past crap and grow up. Not that he really acted childish he just needed to grow a pair and be a man. Sounds rough and I'm not sure why I feel that way. To be hones I really liked Mark other then his past issues.

I could what a sweet guy he was behind the blank stare. He just needed the right person or persons to help him become the man he could be. Again that makes him seem like he's not a man and I don't mean that I just mean the people around him help me to become whole.

Now Jessica I loved right away. There is just something so nice about her. I also really liked her family too. They are all in each others business and are they to offer support. I liked how the author kept you glued to the pages but not only the relationship between Mark and Jessica but also with Jessica's illness that you're kept guessing about. Lacey did a good job of that.

As a whole Can't Forget You is a very good story with the characters from the other books in the series in this one too. I loved it and couldn't put it down until I knew both Jessica, Mark and Bear were happy.

If you've been following this series, you were probably waiting for this story just as much as I was.  Jessica and Mark were in love in high school.  He was the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks but she felt their love would conquer all.  Until he disappeared and joined the military never to be heard of again.  Now that Mark is back in town, they've acted as if they never happened but their love for each other was always like no other.

This book was the perfect small town, second chance story.  The tentative way they interact with each other, the undeniable attraction and feelings that still simmer between them.  I genuinely liked both characters individually and together.  I may even go as far as saying this is my fave couple in the series.  They have their own issues to deal with while also working on issues that keep that apart.  They have to re-learn how to be together and while it's not an immediate jump into where they left off, it felt very natural how things pick up and old feelings that were never forgotten resurface.  The ease in which they are together was comforting and relatable.

Of course, we also get to re-visit with the previous characters in the series and I love how Ms. Lacey is able to incorporate that feeling of friendship in a way that just makes sense and isn't forced.  It was fun to see them show up throughout the story and seeing what they are up to now.  And one of my faves in this one was the stray dog, Bear.  I'm a sucker for an adorable pet and even more so when the hero is so reluctant to keeping him.  Bear was just what Mark needed.

If you want a book that will leave you with a smile on your face from all the romantic goodness, then give this one a try.  CAN'T FORGET YOU was definitely a feel good romance and I can't wait to see what Ms. Lacey does next.

The final member of the trio running Off-the-Grid adventures in the aptly named town of Haven gets his chance at a happily ever after.

Mark has always been a loner, he has a lot of emotional barriers stemming from his being placed in foster care at the age of six. Mark keeps everyone at arm's length as a way of protecting himself even if he is ultimately lonely as a result. The only person that has ever got close to cracking his shell is Jessica. They dated in high school until Mark enlisted in the army without telling Jessica and leaving her confused and heartbroken,

Both back in Haven and vying for the same piece of land and with the same close-knit group of friends, it is inevitable Mark and Jessica will cross paths. What they don't expect is how fast the sparks light between them. Although they accept their attraction they are both determined to keep their emotions out of any ensuing relationship due to their past history.

However, they are physically incapable of staying away from each other, from having to work together, to Mark's protective nature where Jess is concerned - the story moves at a fast pace :)

Unfortunately, Mark's emotional barriers are a real sticking point in progressing their relationship to a deeper emotional level. Mark has, even more, secrets and emotional issues than we would first assume. Only Mark himself can make the decision to put the past behind him and accept a happier future with the woman he has never stopped loving.

I completely adore this series, Can't Forget You has little angst but a great deal of emotional connection to the characters. It was fantastic to catch up with the previous characters and witness the progression of their relationship.

This series started with a dud for me but ended up with the best! This is a second-chance-at love romance that was just so effortless. The hero Mark is ex-Special Forces and a quiet and private man. Although he has been back in town running his business with his friends, the heroine avoids him. These two used to be in love in high-school when the hero ended it and went to join the Army and the heroine hold a grudge because he never told her anything. These two come back in each others orbit, when they are both looking to expand their respective business'. I liked how the hero wasn't depicted as a man-ho; he had actually been celibate ever since he got out of the Army because seeing the heroine made him realise how much she meant to him. When these two got together things just clicked, but of course that didn't mean the hero's ability to not communicate wasn't a stumbling block. I appreciated how strong and independent the heroine was and made the hero work to get her back.

A fun, but emotional second chance, Can’t Forget You is a wonderful addition to the Risking it All series. It reads as a a standalone, or enjoyed with the series.

In Can’t Forget You, former high school loves rediscover each other. The chemistry they experienced as teenagers is still there, but Jessica still resents Mark for leaving, and he’s holding onto secrets.

Overall, I enjoyed this trip back to Haven, NC. The story was paced evenly and well developed. Updates
on past characters were entwined seamlessly as to not confuse a new reader. I would recommend to the hopeless romantic looking for a second chance.

Jess is one demanding woman, and honestly I don't think Mark minds, “did you remember the condoms?” He nodded, his dark eyes heated. “Good,” she murmured against his lips. “Because after our phone call earlier, I really need to have you naked.” Mark loves to change his amd Jess's itinerary, “change of plans.” He kicked the door shut behind them. “We’re staying in tonight.” I liked this book, Mark was a diamond in the rough and I loved him.

Second-chance romance between high school sweethearts who become unlikely business partners... I really liked the heroine in this one; Jess owns a spa, is into meditation, and has a solid group of gal pals. Mark left their hometown to join the Special Forces and after an injury returns home to co-own a nature adventure business with his best friends. The new business venture causes Jess and Mark to be spending time together again and realizing what they both already know: they kinda never stopped feeling something for one another.

The stakes in this romance are really relatable: Jess and Mark might still have intense chemistry but can he open up to her and trust her? This love story is all about discovering if intimacy is possible. And also does history equate to a fulfilling adult relationship?

I really enjoyed it, especially the sweet rescue pup named Bear and the setting. (Putting me into the fall spirit when it's still 70 degrees in October in NYC.)

REVIEW

I love second chance romances it's one of my favorite tropes. This one is sweet and naughty in all the right places. I became emotionally invested in the characters had me crying and laughing along the the way. Even as the third book of the series it was an easy standalone to read.

Although this is the third book in a series, I haven't read the first two books. This read very much like a stand alone. And I enjoyed it so much that I intend to go back and read the first two in the series. I love a reunited story line and this one is a really good one. The characters were all very well fleshed out. The relationship between the hero and heroine was really sweet. It was lovely to see them reunite and come together with a new start. The hero is a bit of a tortured soul which is also compelling. Watching them come together while he's working to heal himself was really interesting. The heroine (Jessica) is a smart, feisty character which was a nice contrast to the hero who was struggling emotionally. All in all, this was a really nice, sweet romance. I definitely enjoyed it and plan to read more of the series!

This is an awesome book and I highly recommend for you to read this book.

(Unfortunately, I lost my full review on Goodreads ... added a short one ! )

I had been waiting a long time to finally read about Jessica and Mark's story. It definitely didn't disappoint me. It was a roller coaster of a story and very moving as Jessica became ill ....
I was very disappointed to lose my review on Goodreads ... again because I accidently (not payng attentino) switching editions !

Highly recommend this series "Risking it All" . Each book though can be read as a stand-a-lone... but great to read it from the beginning too.

Jessica Flynn is looking to expand her spa and now that the land next door is up for sale, she'll do anything to buy it. But when things happen and she finds herself competing with her ex for the unspoiled piece of land, it seems the only way they'll both get what they want is to join forces and buy it together. However, Jessica never imagined she'd fall for Mark Dalton all over again. Will Mark and Jessica get their second chance at forever after, or will Mark break her heart all over again?

What a wonderful and very engaging second chance romance Ms. Lacey has delivered in this third book of her Risking it All series where the main characters have never gotten over each other and definitely need to find their way back to the other; the dialogue was intense due to the main characters back stories and the obstacles these two face to be together again; and the secondary characters had me enjoying the tight friendship they share with either the hero and heroine and how determined they were to see both happy. Will Mark and Jessica get their second chance at happiness?

Both the main characters were riveting and I loved the moments the hero and heroine interacted, especially since the heroine challenges the hero to lose control during their very intimate moments. Will Jessica get her wish for Mark to lose control? Moreover, the heroine goes through a lot in this story with what's happening to her in terms of her health and I liked how Mark was there for her every step of the way. I also liked how hard-working she is and that even though Mark broke her heart in the past, I liked that she was willing to give him another chance. While the hero, he's been through a lot in his past and I felt sorry for him when it comes to being reunited with someone he'd rather forget but needs to forgive to be completely happy in life. I also liked how hard-working the hero was and how determined he was to earn the heroine's forgiveness because of what happened between them in the past. How could he have left the way he did, especially with the way he blindsided the heroine? Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he opened up to the heroine about his past before he lost the heroine for good.

Overall, Ms. Lacey has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance full of exquisite heat and passion; and the ending had me loving how determined the hero was to win back the heroine, even if it meant facing his past. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because this couple deserve their second chance at happiness after all they've been through. I would recommend Can't Forget You by Rachel Lacey, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Rachel Gibson, Sarah Richardson, Katie Lane and Miranda Liasson.

After an injury puts an end to his military career Mark returns home to North Carolina to make his dream of co-owning an outdoor adventure business with his buddies a reality, but shortly after arriving in town he learns that someone else also has plans for the land he has his eye on. A very sweet and sexy someone, a someone that use to have claim on his heart, his ex-high school sweetheart Jessica. Seeing her again brings up a lot of old feelings, some regrets, and some serious chemistry...but is he ready to travel down that road with her again?

Jessica Flynn loves the life that she has created for herself in her little North Carolina town, her spa business is booming, and she has some ideas for an expansion, but before that can happen she has to battle her ex for the sweet spot of land to build it on. Seeing him again has brought up a lot of old memories, and some serious sparks, but Mark is a different man than he use to be, and she isn't so sure she is ready to deal with this new Mark. But when their businesses throw them together and they begin to spend a whole lot more time with one another, she begins to see glimpses of the man she use to know, and she begins to think maybe, just maybe, a second chance for them is possible...

Can't Forget You is a enchanting and sweet second chance romance story that is sure to score a place in your heart! When life throws these two ex-lovebirds together things start to get a little heated, and they begin to remember how much they miss one another, but as with all relationships they both have some serious baggage to sort out before they can have their love reboot. Their road to rediscovering the love they once shared has many bumps, but little by little they begin to sort things out, and create some fun little encounters for readers to enjoy along the way! I am really enjoying this new series from Ms. Lacey, these wonderfully crafted characters of hers sure know how to put on an enjoyable show, and make my heart happy! Highly recommend you make a trip to North Carolina and meet the folks of the Risking It All series, once you arrive you'll never want to leave!!

Mark, the son of a mom who abandoned him at six years old, grew up a very angry child. His mom dropped him off at school with a note in his back pack, never to return. While bouncing around various foster homes, Mark meets Ryan and Ethan. The trio become "brothers". In high school, Mark meets and falls for Jessica. Wanting what's best for Jessica, her dad decides to have a talk with Mark with hopes of steering him in the right direction. Mark takes the advice to heart and enlists leaving Jessica to suffer her first broken heart.

Fast forward several years.....the band of brothers are in business together running an outdoors adventure zip lining course, rock climbing area, etc. Looking to expand their business by adding a mountain bike trail, they put in an offer to purchase the land next to them. Little did they know there were other interested parties...

Jessica always had dreams of opening her own spa with hot springs. When the land beside her goes up for sale, she places a bid. The bidding war begins. After losing the final bid, Jessica concedes and believes her dreams are lost forever. Days later, she's approached by Mark with a joint venture. Mark suggests they go in together so they can top the other buyer's offer. Mark suggests they divide up the land and they will both get what they want. Jessica reluctantly agrees.

As Jessica and Mark work together to build their dreams, they can't deny they still have strong feelings for each other. When Jessica is confronted with a health scare, Mark is right there by her side. He vows to help her and convince her he's a different man than the boy who left years ago. But he will makes mistakes...

This is the third in the Risking It All series and my favorite novel yet!!! I loved it! The chemistry was off the charts. Mark was broody, but sexy. Silent, but charming. He was supportive without being too pushy. The ultimate Alpha! As a RN, I also enjoyed the medical illness theme. While I wouldn't wish an illness on anyone, it's great to educate others concerning various medical conditions. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Can't Forget You by Rachel Lacey is a wonderful second chance at love romance between former high school sweethearts. This third installment in the Risking it All series features Mark Dalton (le sigh) and Jessica Flynn and can be read as a standalone.

Mark and Jessica have avoided each other as much as possible ever since he returned to Haven to go into business with his best friends, Ethan Hunter and Ryan Blake. Of the three men, Mark is the most damaged by his childhood and he is the epitome of the strong, silent type. Intensely private, Mark does not reveal much about his childhood, the years he has been away or his Army career.  Although he has no regrets about moving back to Haven or going into business with his friends, Mark still struggles with feeling like he does not belong.  After he continues to cross paths with Jessica, Mark realizes his feelings for her have not changed over the years but will he be able to overcome his fears that he is not relationship material?

Jessica is still pretty hurt and angry over Mark's decision to leave her behind when he joined the Army.  Despite sharing friends in common, she has been fairly successful in avoiding him but when their business interests end up overlapping, she has no choice but to spend time with him. When he continues to show his caring and compassionate side while she is going through a difficult time, Jessica tentatively agrees to explore their simmering attraction. Eventually deciding to take their relationship public, will they finally find their happily ever after?

Despite his emotional baggage, Mark is a very kind-hearted and affectionate man.  He finds it difficult to discuss his problems and when he is stressed or worried, he needs time alone to process his emotions.  Due to how their romance ended years earlier, Jessica wants full transparency from him which is a reasonable request  when it comes to issues that pertain directly to their relationship. When it comes to other aspects of Mark's life, this is a bit of an unrealistic and unfair expectation since everyone is entitled to their privacy. He should also have the choice to decide what he wants to share and he should also be able to decide when to share this info. This becomes a problem when Jessica stumbles across information that has NOTHING to do with her or their relationship but in her opinion, she feels like he should have divulged this to her. She then blindsides Mark with her discovery and proceeds to issue an unfair ultimatum that will either make or break their relationship.  This is the "big misunderstanding" that becomes the pivotal moment for their future and although it was wrapped up fairly quickly, this entire situation felt entirely unfair to Mark since it is tantamount to emotional blackmail by Jessica.

There was one other part of the story that did not make a good impression. Mark is an intensely private person so it felt like a bit of betrayal when Jessica discussed extremely intimate details about him with her friends. If they were having a casual fling, it would be slightly more acceptable to disclose this information but since Jessica is hoping for a long term relationship with him, these revelations were very inappropriate.

Despite a few flaws, Can't Forget You is a sweet yet very sensual romance.  Mark has been a bit of an enigma throughout the Risking It All series so getting to know him on a more personal level is an absolute joy but also a bit heartbreaking once the truth about his past is revealed . Jessica has many good points but she treated Mark very unfairly when she discovered unexpected information about his past. Mark and Jessica have an explosive chemistry and their sex scenes are blazing hot.  Readers of contemporary romances will enjoy this newest release from Rachel Lacey.

This was heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Mark will just capture your heart from the beginning. he went through so much and is a good, kind man just trying to do what he feels is right. years ago when he went into the military and let Jessica go it was because he wanted her to be free to love. Only it hurt her. He never forgot her. In fact it was memories of her that kept him going. So when Mark came back to North Carolina, he didn’t expect anything from Jessica. They had similar friends but he never pushed her.

Jessica was a sweet girl. She was strong and independent. All she went through in this book has you respect her more. Her illness and her fear of being hurt again just tore at the heart. But she did give Mark a chance to be her friend. Only the attraction took over and she and Mark became more. Mark learns to let her in slowly with all but one thing. Something that he was trying to forget himself. Something that hurts him so much that he pushes it into a box and doesn’t let it out.

these two are so fun together. Mark loves her and respects her. He protects her and also does everything not to hurt her at least not intentionally. His quiet ways hurts her in its own way at times. Jessica has Mark to rely on and his support to help her through so much. She sees how alone he is even in a crowd and tries to change it. Mark tries to change it. He fights his feelings but when he finally realizes he can’t stop thinking of Jessica he goes all in and it is so wonderful.

this is a heartwarming story on second chances and forgiveness. About growth and love overcoming all. About being brave and letting someone in and trusting them with the good, the bad and the ugly and them still loving and accepting you. Jessica, Mark and their friends are awesome. The romance of Mark and Jessica captures your heart and you root for them to have a HEA. A wonderful heartwarming second chance romance.

An amazing second chance story with every emotion from anger to happy tears is what you'll find in Rachel Lacey's third installment of the Risking it All series, Can't Forget you.

Sweet, kind and beautiful Jessica, she's ambitious but careful and definitely feisty. She is a strong female character, who doesn't need anyone to tell her what to do or use her whenever they feel she's needed. She gives as much as she gets and sometimes that leaves her with scars.

"I'd hate you if I didn't want you so damn much."

Ex-military and conrol driven, Mark is a hard man to read, yet, there's something about him that you just can't ignore. He's changed from a teen heading down a dark road into a man who still struggles with demons, but who eventually learns the hard way that life is more than just black and white.

"I'll never see another shooting star without thinking of you."

Who can forget their first love? Not Jess, and certainly not Mark. First loves are always a unique story. With Jess and Mark each owning a piece of land, both bordering on a property that initially sets them up for a lot of surprises. Because Jess needs the land for her spa resort expansion, but the men from Off-The-Grid wants it for a Mountain bike trail. So thus we cone to a tug and war.

"Because anything Jess created was special, as far as he was concerned."

Jess is definitely my favorite character, she goes through so much and is still there for everyone else. She doesn't need a man, but there's one that seems to sit in a very special place in her heart and that she couldn't quite shake, not that she really wants to.

Who would have thought by tugging hard enough the woman/man of your dreams would fall right into your arms?

This is definitely worth 5 shooting stars!

I loved reading this book! I might have enjoyed it even more if I had known this was one in a series, but that’s water under the bridge now. I loved the way the story developed, the interaction between hero and heroine and the love that was still there from their teenage years, you see it actually growing in the words Rachel Lacey used. As I said before, it’s a pity I didn’t read the first two books in this series, because I have the feeling I was thrown headfirst into this passionate love-story, while all the other characters already had a part and I didn’t know them. You can read it as a stand-alone, but you’re missing a lot of inside information about the town and characters. Nevertheless, I loved it! Praise!! Here’s what it’s all about:
Jessica Flynn can't wait to buy up that patch of unspoiled North Carolina woodland next door and expand her spa. What could be more sensuous than a hot-tub soak under the stars? Jessica would love to bask in the romantic view herself-but first she needs to find the right man to join her in this fantasy. Back in high school, she thought that was the dark and brooding Mark Dalton. But then he left to join the Special Forces, and when he returned to town, it felt like their teenage love affair had never even happened.

Mark Dalton has his eye on the same property for his own business. Yet there's something he wants to have even more. Because Jessica is sweeter than he remembered, and he's finding it hard to resist his attraction to the competition. When they finally find themselves alone, deep in the forest, nature can't help but run a little wild. But if she ever finds out what he's been hiding all these years, she may never forgive him...

Once in awhile a first love burns so strong that it's ever-lasting ... and this book gives a great story detailing such a situation. It's sweet, it's sexy, it's emotionally charged! If you've read the earlier books in this series, you'll recognize most of the key players and will get an update on some of our favorite couples from the past. The storyline is well-developed with enough strife to keep us on pins and needles about whether they will be able to make a relationship work, but also a great amount of friendship, love and overall general warmth that makes for a close-knit cast of characters. I really enjoyed it!

Spa owner Jessica Flynn is excited to put in an offer on the newly listed piece of property adjacent to her spa! She's been dreaming of expanding for years, and her opportunity is finally here. She feels like she's walking around in the clouds until trouble is brought to her attention ... the guys at Off-the-Grid Adventures want the property too, and none other than her high school sweetheart himself, Mark Dalton, is standing there with her realtor trying to burst her bubble!

It might have been years since he left Haven, NC, but Mark is still just as attracted to Jessica as he was the day he left her to join the Army. She has basically acted like he doesn't exist for the last year since he's been back in town, but now she's being forced to interact with him. He knows he hurt her, and he also knows he's not the type of man she needs if she's looking to settle down ... but man, the sparks that tear through him at the slightest touch of her hand tell him he needs to convince her to live it up with him a little!

Jessica was a total bitch coming down to the ending of this book. In the beginning, I felt for her, and I was supposed to. Mark dumped her and left for the army, leaving her heartbroken. Now years later he's back and the both of them are acting as if there's no history between the two.

Okay, I can get with that, but then they're forced together because they both want the same plot of land. Then through a series of unfortunate events, they have to team up to purchase the land together........and then those plotlines totally fell away and was barely mentioned until the falling out phase of the book.

This book just had random plot ideas that were introduced into this book and barely used. Because as soon as they started getting romantic with each other, all plot fell away and sex was introduced. They barely talked about feelings, they barely communicated in general but the story did have space for loads of unnecessary sex scenes.

This book was going along the basic three-star review until Jessica crossed a boundary that have absolutely nothing to do with her. Never took into account Mark's feelings or childhood and made everything about her. Then instead of asking him a question, she accused him of something he has yet to come to terms with, which in turn made him shut down and retreat.

Yet the author is making it out as if Jessica was in the right. She crossed a line that she had absolutely no right crossing without asking questions first, and made a painful situation worse. This book went straight to a one-star after that, I couldn't take the random storylines anymore.

** I have received an Arc for a honest review! **

I really enjoy reading Rachel's books. They are so full of compassion and steamy love! Can't wait for more books!

Haven,California

Jessica and Mark story-- Risking It All Series book 3
I recommend reading the other two as they introduce the characters and gives a nice background.
Jess owns a Spa.
Mark owns Off-the-Grid Adventures.

While Mark is in high school he dates Jessica. One day he decides to enlist in Army and drops Jessica in the quick of the hat. Her family doesn't like how Mark treated her in that time period. He was injured in Iraq two years ago. When Mark returns to Haven after eleven years from the Army. He has a very hard time trying to stay away from Jess.

Jess and Mark battle for little forty acres of land around them so they expand their businesses.

Jess thinks she has the flu since her employees already had it. Maybe it is the flu or maybe it is something else?

Can they both get along since their businesses are close to one another? Can they be civil and agree about the land? Will Jess and Mark get back together or will they stay far away from another? Will their two families accept one another again?

Chapter 14:

"He couldn't have kept in tough with her. He was a part of her past, and he'd wanted her to have a future free of the uncertainty that came with military life, waiting to see if he'd survive, if he'd come home, and what kind of man he'd be if he did make it back."

CAN’T FORGET YOU is a second chance romance between two people who have been together when they were teenagers. They’re all grown up now, and while Jessica was a responsible young woman, it was Mark who was the loose cannon of their young love. Now though, Mark knows the meaning of responsibility and perhaps wants a second chance with Jess.

I loved this story for several reasons, but the most important was that I could relate to these characters more than I did to any other favorites. Much more. Maybe it’s the timing, maybe it’s the fact that there was a lost dog who was adopted, maybe it was the healing through your love for someone else, I don’t know, I was able to find many a pages to stop and think about how much I could understand them. And isn’t this why we love to read anyway? It is for me. I love reading through a solid romance and enjoy their ups and downs but I also like relating to them.

And this was a solid romance. A strong romance between two people who would be there for each other no matter what. And while they made their mistakes in the past, it was clear they developed into better versions of themselves. It gives me immense pleasure to see that.

Add to this the fact that the story takes place in a small town, and there’s a tight group of friends who support each other and meddle in only when it’s absolutely necessary, then you have this sweet, sexy romance that’s a pleasure to read.

*TON OF SPOILERS*

I wanted a quick, simple read which I did get from this but oh boy did the female lead irritate me towards the end. She knows that her love interest is very private and they promised not to tell their friends about their relationship just yet--but she went ahead and told about 5 people (which he found out about because the said friends confronted him randomly one day).

Towards the beginning of the story, he discovers that his birth mother who abandoned him at the age of 6 is back in town trying to get ahold of him. This is so traumatic in general, let alone he already has some PTSD from the Army he's been living with. Well, long story short the Mom leaves him a note, he's pissed and gives it to his dog to chew up. Well, his girlfriend goes to his place while he's away, finds the note and calls his mother. Wtf?! THEN she brings it up to him and somehow makes herself the victim because "he didn't tell her about everything with his mom".

Girl...I just can't.

I get some of the whole, "don't lie to me" or "be honest" but jeez...family traumas take a bit of time to process and handle before divulging to your new partner who tells people everything.

Again, I didn't completely dislike the book obviously (haha) but Jessica's character needs to get her head out of her ass and worry about her own crap.

P.S. I agree with the other reviewers this is now k own as the Lyme Disease book.

Can't Forget You(Risking It All )
by Rachel Lacey

I just love second chance stories. I also love small town romances. Can't Forget You is a great second chance story. Rachel Lacey's stories are powerful yet sweet and romantic. Rachel Lacey has truly shown why she is so amazing. You get everything you want in a romance novel and more. A perfectly written and perfectly told story.

We get Mark's story and let me tell you it was worth the wait. In Can't Forget You Mark and Jess were high school sweethearts who had a future together full of hopes and promises until Mark enlists in the military and leaves. Fast forward ten years later and things take off.

The setting is beautiful and Rachel was very detailed about the town of Haven. I found myself wanting to visit Haven even live there. I could picture the mountains. Can't Forget You is different from other books. You get small town, second chance romance. I could relate to Jess. I felt all the emotions in this book. I enjoyed being on Jess and Mark's journey from first love to heart break to forgiveness to second chances. My heart swooned and I laughed. I could not put this book down. I read it all in one sitting and now am re-reading it for a second time. Can't Forget You will have your heart swooning and feeling everything from love to frustration to giddy. The perfect book. Thank you Rachel Lacey for writing a great book.
