Tall, handsome and out of his depth, Dayton Bracknell made the one time mistake of calling himself "Clueless Guy in Charge.” Following a string of one night stands, most of the women he knows would probably call him a few other things.
Far from the club where he used to spend much of his free time naked, Dayton is unwillingly heading up the Alliance’s unfinished medical facility on the moon. He is safe from impending war and a virus on the home planet, but he feels caged and bungles his way around the base with all of the responsibility and none of the know-how. But hey-they gave him the codes to the vending machines. You can fix anything with coffee-right?
Craving any kind of action, he's having trouble keeping his feelings for the reluctant Fiona in check.
Worse-Day is growing increasingly concerned by the experiments being run in the facility. The scientists are genetically modifying humans into super-soldiers, with rampant results.
Now the dangerous, over-sexed mutants are threatening to escape, and no one can make contact with the home planet. Can Dayton keep his employees safe? Can he direct his sex drive towards just one woman? Or will the insatiable libidos of the soldiers destroy everything? And just why are they getting more sex than he is?
I promise I'll be brief. Wouldn't want you to fall asleep.
I am about 300 years old, write Sci-fi, mysteries, thrillers, paranormal and erotica, hail from another planet and am married with two teenage kids. We have a house full of a variety of animals. There's tropical fish, a degu called Sam (it's not a rodent). He's a small fluffy thing with a long tail, bigger than a hamster, smaller than an elephant. I'm not great with sizes. Crunch the tortoise still fits in the palm of my hand. We've only just got her/him/whatever. Seems OK, eats stuff, sits under light, sleeps, grows. Doesn't seem to talk yet. Cossie the bearded dragon does talk and can fly whilst breathing fire. I’ve got her well trained. There hasn't been "an incident" with the fire brigade for a while now.
I run a small business in my spare time when I'm not writing, or thinking about writing, or thinking "I really should be writing right now."
Weird fact-had blood tests recently, apparently they were expecting blood not coffee. Not my problem. They need to manage their expectations better.
I would categorize this book as erotic science-fiction. It's not my usual read, but the story is written by an independent author I chose to read and review. This is the first book in a series and does continue in the next installment.
Aware of the erotic aspect of the story, I felt rather... silly laughing out loud so often when I started reading this book. No, not at the sex scenes. I assure you, the sexual encounters are written in a vividly descriptive and steamy manner. I soon realized that Dayton, the main character, possesses and adeptly exercises a sarcastic sense of humor that I both appreciate and enjoy. All of the characters have distinctly unique and some quirky personalities.
The science-fiction story line is interesting, fast paced, and gory at times. I was saddened by the turn one situation took, but am interested to see how it works out. What occurred in the last few pages of the story left me wide-eyed and smiling in approval at the author's imagination. It also made me want to read the next installment.
I can guarantee you haven't read a book like this one! I've never found a book both hilarious AND sexy. Well... at least not since I read Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, anyway, and the humor in this book is totally different.
I'm not one who normally reads erotica/romance, or sci fi, but I really enjoyed this book. Imagine William Riker from Star Trek dealing with blue balls while trying to run a boring space station. There is bureaucracy. There are problems with the coffee machine. There are genetically-modified soldiers having animalistic rapey sex everywhere... wait, what? Oh yeah. They have to be kept in cages because all they do is have sex and then sleep, and woe betide anyone who gets in their way. Dayton, the MC, doesn't think is a good idea at all, but he has bigger problems - like getting his beautiful ex-girlfriend Fiona to give him a second chance.
And then the sexed up soldiers get loose...
This book is hilarious, quirky, and yet also successfully and surprisingly sexy. The plot introduces too many new characters at the end, gearing up for the next book, which kind of took away from the momentum, and I am itching to give it a run through grammarly to fix all of the commas, but it is a truly enjoyable read if you like any of the following: sex, office humor, or sci fi.
Give it a try. You'll laugh... and then you may need to find some privacy...
Dayton Bracknell is the guy in charge on a medical outpost on the backside of the moon. Isolated and lonely, it appears he has only one thing on his mind. Everything he does, where ever he goes, all he wants is to make it with the female workers in the moon module. He misses home, the planet and the club he attends that satisfied his specific needs. After making love to his sometime girlfriend Fi, their conversation boils down to, "I ought to go," she said "Why, no need, we're in a bloody crater on the moon." They are stuck, isolated from the planet below, with a bizarre medical experimentation going on creating super soldier. These super warrior have been modified, a cold and calculating scientist is studying the bizarre side effects that will soon have the entire module uncontrollably lusting after each other. With the subtlety of Rocky Horror, Amy Hamilton has written a space opera that hits all the high notes of an erotic novel. Day and his crew face the virus head on and will be compelled to meet the new challenges or die trying. The are explicit scenes, so be prepared.
I found this story an odd combination of wit and sadness, which to be honest all good sci-fi seems to spring from. while the sexual nature of the story and the quips can't bee denied, The understory of a moon base cut off from actual news and standing as a microcosm of the horror happening to the planet below caused something of a pleasurable double take. definitely a recommended read :)
Modified was a surprisingly good book! It's not the normal sci/fi that I tend to read but it had me on the edge of my seat! One drawback....to be concluded! I can't wait for the next one to see what happens to Dayton Bracknell and the crew on the moon!
