Portal Wars: The Trilogy

Jay Allan’s Complete Portal Wars Trilogy...

Erastus. An unimaginable nightmare. A searing hot world, covered with cracked, burning deserts and sweltering jungles. A hostile planet far from Earth, it was the most hellish place men have ever tried to survive. Called Gehenna by the condemned men sent to fight there, it forged the few who survived its murderous battles into the strongest soldiers in history.

Jake Taylor is one of those men, a young New Hampshire farmer and an unlikely soldier. But mankind was fighting the alien Tegeri and their bio-mechanical cyborg soldiers, and UN Central needed men…men to go to war on hostile worlds like Erastus.

Jake wasn’t given a choice, not a real one. He found himself torn from home and family, conscripted for life and shipped to Erastus to take his place in the battle lines, never to return. In this alien hell, Taylor and his cybernetically-enhanced comrades fight their never-ending war against the servants of the Tegeri, the manufactured soldiers they call simply, the Machines.

Jake survives battle after battle, rising steadily through the ranks, giving all to the desperate fight to save Earth. But endless combat in hell carries a cost, and Taylor can feel himself losing what little is left of his spirit, his humanity. When he finally discovers a terrible secret…that everything he’d believed, all he’d fought for his entire life, was nothing but a monstrous lie, he must decide who is the real enemy, and how far he is willing to go to right a horrific wrong.

And if he does what he must to prevail against overwhelming odds and win the final victory, will he be able to control the growing madness inside…or will he be become the very thing he has sworn to destroy?

On the back side

I tried first 2 books of Crimson Worlds and I couldn't continue. Authors political agenda was huge turnoff -- evil, corrupt, dishonest, power hungry Earth, govt n corps. Root of all evil, past - present - future. Come on already n so many SciFi authors use it. However, author put some twists in and a little grin n bear it and I stuck. Author does reasonable job w mil, action scenes but... still trying to figure out how many are in fire tms, squads, etc. Consistency, cred issues but entertaining for most part. At least he didn't implement a 'Legion' type TO, a sure sign of a gamer winging it.

I'm on a crusade, which I'm getting torn to pieces n losing, regarding women being in the ground combat element. Locating and destroying enemy through fire n maneuver and close combat. That's the job and in our enlightened world, anybody can do anything. Not having that belief turns you into an 'ist'.

Any rate, no females in infantry in this book! Author did address a little with the MC's father and I put it down as delusional memory. Must a hurt sales..

It's not about macho nor bias or anything like it. It's about survival in a very exhausting, physically n mentally, job. Not going on soapbox, 4 stars n probably unintentionally by author or the last straw of his PC agenda. Don't know, care. Legitimate Studies with real world metrics regardless of war, WWII and on, the answer is very simple.

A riveting story

I wasn't too sure how I felt about the way the story was told. I hadn't really read anything equivalent in all my years. It took me many chapters and then I realized that I nolonger questioned it. I was now looking forward, with great anticipation, to every new chapter. I simply cannot wait for the next trilogy!!! I had to finish the book and it's now approaching 2:30 in the morning. I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep, as I'm ready to keep going after having read the epilogue. Darn you, Jay Allen...

Not Par with Other Works

The Portal Wars Trilogy is a good story but it was full of grammar errors and some inconsistencies, like the cyborg eyes that didn’t have any moisture but, later, teard were streaming down his face. And, at one point, the hero has a girlfriend of sorts, but there’s no mention of what happened to the sex workers on the Erastus when the army left. Did they just leave them all to die? I’m glad I read BOT and Crimson Worlds first. PS - where’s the last book about the Darkness?

Nothing like a little revolution

I truly enjoy all Jay Allan’s books and especially like the theme of this series. Many people in societies all over the world today give up freedom for security and this delves deeply into that with a futuristic twist. As with every Jay Allan book the typos abound but I try to look past those and enjoy the books. I would love to be his proofreader, lol, but until then I cut him some slack:).

Good story

I like Jay Allen's stories, but found a couple of mistakes. He confuses clip, cartridge and magazine. Also,I'm pretty sure Colonel Macarthur was killed off in the second book to reappear in the third? And what about the women of the Sex Support Squads? I'm sure they could have been used in many different ways in the second and third books and made it even better.

Jay this tale at seemed at times like a liberal party broadcast a lot of political waffle . But the story came through good in the end and was very gripping that you had to keep reading

As above a very long but good read .a bit too much political waffle for my liking would recommend .you have to explore the rational before judgement .

Humdinger!

I know...it sounds weird, but that's what came to mind when I just finished reading the Portal Wars trilogy. Both the writer and his writers are Humdingers! I love science fiction, and I have read ton, but I must say that Mr. Jay Allen has become my favorite. Please read his works and see if you do not agree!! Thanks, Jay!!

Another excellent read - SiFi action, adventure, suspense with a touch of paranormal. Darius and the others grow in the power and his vision appears to come true, but his daughter is still alive. The is a power vacuum in the Revenants that is yet to be resolved. It is a well spun tail. You will enjoy it.

Enjoyed the book. I thought the style of writing changed somewhere & it started sounding like "Lord of the Rings ", very high & mighty. Still a good read.

Amazing series.

Given our current political climate in the U.S., this series struck a chord. Humanity gave up its rights to a oligarchy, because they thought they would be saved. How often do we, all of us, take what we are told and believe it, even act on it? Far too often, unfortunately. This series was masterfully written, full of action and sorrow. Yet it should also serve as a warning: Not to believe EVERYTHING you are told by those in positions of power. For not everything is as it seems.
