A charming and heartfelt story of an eleven year old girl who is really a boy. Throughout the fifth grade Lu comes to terms with who he is, with more than a little help from his compassionate friends and loving parents.

The author, Lucas Hasten, writes that this is the book "I'd want to read if I were a kid."

Bravo, Lucas.

This. Book. Is. Amazing! Though I was skeptical at first, I definitely agree this book should be in every classroom. I've read a lot of books about transgender youth and this one is the most true to life in my opinion. I don't care if you're 8 or 80, you should definitely read this book (even more than once). As a trans-guy, multiple times I read a paragraph and had to literally set the book down because what happened in a scene was something that I related to on a personal level. Thanks to the author, Lucas Hasten, Lu portrays transgender youth so well, it's scary. The Sign Around My Neck will be my favorite book for a long time if not my entire life. Amazing author. Amazing book. Amazing characters. I have nothing else to say, just go read the it. Thank me later.

A timely book about a transgender youth. An interesting read. Well written to appeal to the audience it is designed for. All ages could read it though. I can’t give 4 1/2 stars so 4 will have to do
