A curse is not a big deal. Sitting Duck has already survived five disasters, so what's the worst that can happen, really? Well... you're about to find out.
During Sitting Duck Founder's holiday, the town gathers to view the legendary pirate ship that brought the town's founder to their shores. ButSam, Arty, and Emmie soon learn it carries more than just treasure and swords--an ancient pirate curse is sweeping across the town, turning people to stone!
Who has unleashed this deadly curse and why? Sam, Artie, and Emmie must take to the high seas before their town is wiped off the map for good!
As the citizens of Sitting Duck gather to celebrate its founding 350 years ago, strange things begin to happen to them. It's almost as though they've been cursed because someone has touched the pirate treasure on the pirate ship that carried its founder to land. As more and more citizens succumb to this plague, sporting green spots all over their faces, dancing uncontrollably, and eventually turning to stone, Sam Saunders, and his best friends, Emmie Lane and Arty Dorkins, work to solve the mystery. Their need for a solution becomes even more desperate once it's clear that Emmie also is showing signs of the contagion. Surprisingly, much-needed help comes in the form of the usually air-headed Phoebe Bowles and her little dog, Glitterpuff. The youngsters have faced all sorts of disasters before, but how can they stop an ancient curse? As usual, the story line is simple, but there is humor along the way to distract readers and snippets such as tips on how to speak dog and how to figure out what your curse is. Fans of the series will enjoy this, the latest title, number six. I am a little concerned about who's left living in this town since so many citizens are falling by the wayside, book by book.
In the 6th installment of the Disaster Diaries, the town of Sitting Duck is celebrating it's 350th anniversary. The legendary pirate ship that brought their founder has been restored and the town comes out to celebrate. Very quickly, mass illness is sweeping the town. Can our intrepid friends Sam, Arty, and Emmie get to the bottom of this mystery? The book is told in a third person point of view, in a very casual way, speaking directly to the audience, sometimes about things not related to the story. There are several sidebars with information relating to the situation. This book tries to be funny, but just didn't reach me. There are quirky characters with funny names, but it seems to by trying too hard. That may be due to it being the 6th in the series. I have not read the others. It seems like a more humorous "Series of Unfortunate Events," but not as high caliber as that series.
Three friends used to disaster and adventure meet the challenge in one more story. This time their town is taken over by a pirate's curse. Will they be able to stop the plague, will all of them make it out alive?? Great adventure with teamwork and kid fun at the heart of the story, what kid doesn't want to save their city or the world?! Recommended 3-6 grades, I see 2-5 really enjoying it.
Super fun option for those who have read through all the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries. Laugh out loud funny! I definitely plan to book-talk these during my elementary school visits.
