descriptionPretty good cover on this one. A good representation of the hero. Good composition as well. The font used for the title is a bit too thin (IMO) which makes it a bit hard to read.description

descriptionI enjoyed this one for the most part. It was a bit slow and repetitive at times, but overall it wasn't a bad read. The writing was good. The pace as I said was a bit too slow for me. The plot was engaging. It wasn't very angsty and had no OW/OM drama. Although the hero does go to the BDSM club and makes plans with a sub

Sold to a sex trafficker by her drug-dealing boyfriend, Phebe Lawson possessed first-hand knowledge of the secrets of betrayal. She’d given up all hope. Her life no longer held any meaning. She would have wished for death to come and take her away, except, she knew wishes were wasted on people like her. Until the day he entered her life. He was a beacon of light in the bleakness she called existence. His

Well worth a read..

This is the first book I have read by this author which featured two broken people who have a multitude of problems the not least of which is trust issues.... the story isn’t particularly original but it is well written and the sexual tension and intimate moments between the two protagonists are enthralling...

The story is told by the two main characters, Phebe and Donovan, who take turns to relate their side of events....their narrative is interspersed with insights into the e

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you L.K. Shaw!

This book's storyline was so up my alley; sex slavery, broken main character, learning to slay inner demons, and some BDSM. Match made in heaven right? It should've been, and has the potential to be; it just isn't there yet. Here are a few things that made me unsure about this novel.

First, I felt that the BDSM aspect was not explored enough. I think the author could've pushed it through more. It

Wow this book a first for me by LK Shaw. This book is a dark book that keep me wanting more as Phebe is fighting back to get through the damage and Donovan is a lawyer that is defending Phebe after her kiddnapping. Both have dark past that will have to work through so they can work together. This book is dark with emotions that will keep you on edge.

This would be my first read by L.k Shaw and I hope it wont be my last , everything about secrets of betrayal drew me in and I couldn't get enough of it . This is one read you don't want to miss out on I'll definitely be going back to read the rest of the series even though this can be read as a standalone I still want to read what was and whats to come .
Story of healing

Very traumatic story of healing. Wow lots happened to Phebe And she had so much to over come. The story was about healing inside and out.

I just really didn’t feel the connection between Phebe and Donovan. They just didn’t do it for me.

Decent read.

I've been waiting for this book for awhile now and to be honest, I was worried it would be to dark for me. I like dark romance but only until a certain point. The book grabbed me from the first page and while it took me several days to read it, it was good. I could feel the emotions pour out of Phebe and Donovan as they both struggled to overcome things that have happened to them in the past. Both were betrayed, both were damaged and hurt, but could they overcome all of this pain to become each ...more
Secrets of Betrayal by L.K. Shaw was an okay read for me. I wasn’t sold on the hero of this story, and the execution left me wanting more.

Phebe has lived a nightmare the last few months, and when she’s rescued, Phebe is left feeling like a shell of her former self. Sheltered in a safe house, she’s seeking to pick up the pieces of her life and the best way to do that is to lock away the men responsible.

Donovan is a laywer and a Dominant. He’s the attorney representing Phebe, and he’s drawn into h

Phebe wakes to find herself in a living hell. She soon realizes she has been sold, and not to a nice man. His only intent is to "train" her. He does more than trains her, he completely shatters everything she is. When she is found and brought to safety, she tried to pick her self back up and put herself back together. But that is a hard thing to do, unless you find someone to help you along the way, who becomes your glue.

Donovan can't wait to make the bad guys in his new case pay. Especial

I have to say that I was a little worried about this edition to the Secrets series. I have to say that it was one of the best books I have read all year. There are some dark parts of this story, but they are written in such a way that they touch your heart and soul. You will not be turned off to the story because of this. I was truly touched by this story. The characters and their story are so real; that you feel like you are reading about people that you actually know. I not only fell in love w ...more
I give this book 3.5 stars. The book was well written, the storyline was good, and the idea is a good one. I just had a hard time feeling a strong connection to the characters, which is just my personal issue, and not a failing of the book.

Donovan and Phebe have both suffered betrayals by the people in their lives.

Phebe has spent her adult life in a relationship with a drug dealer. She was trying to get away from him and had spent years quietly plotting and planning. But, when he found out, he

3.5 stars. I liked this story, I just didn't love it; being a lover of all things dark I read the opening sentence of the synopsis "Sold to a sex trafficker by her drug-dealing boyfriend..."; that was it! I was sold too, not reading the rest of the blurb I dived straight in. This wasn't as dark as I had expected, in fact the dark times had already happened before the story begins and the 'incident' was dealt with in a series of flashbacks. Whilst the book is well written and does contain dark th ...more

Secrets of Betrayal by L.K. Shaw is dark and at times difficult to read, but will captivate you from the start. The story is well done and the romance was slow-burning.

Phebe Lawson has known disappointment her entire life. Her parents were non-existent in her life and the only man she ever trusted destroyed her. After years of abuse and hopelessness, her boyfriend sells her to a sex trafficker and criminal. This man completed destroyed her. With all hope gone, she is left devastated and lost.

I have to admit this novel with emotional drain you. It's raw at some of the worst times and shocks you to the core. Warnings shouldn't be taken lightly.

Phebe is rescued at the beginning of the novel however the nightmare is just beginning. She has to learn to function in life again which is an demon in itself. Not able to stand touch or to eat hardly anything she is wasting away.

Donovan works for the DA. An attorney that has to get Phebe's witness testimony. Struggling with his own needs, he p

Unfortunately I have not read the prior books in this series. Which means I don’t really know the other background stories of the supporting characters and their connections. At times that is not a problem, but I think in this case it would be better to read them in order since there were past events that were referenced in this book.

The story is that Phebe was sold to a Russian and trained to be his Queen. She is finally rescued and now is in hiding working to prosecute her ex-boyfriend who sol

Phebe Lawson has been looking for love her whole life. She thought she'd met her Prince Charming until things turned horribly wrong. And just as she felt completely broken she gets rescued. Then he came into her life and she finds everything she ever wanted, needed, and desired.

Donovan Jeffries has been burned by a sub before and isn't ready to make that commitment again any time soon. But one look at her and his whole soul came alive. Now he'll do everything he can to make she just how strong s

For months Phebe lived in hell! She prayed for the day when it would all end. What she didn't expect was to be rescued, put in a safe house and asked to testify against what she had just lived through. Nor did she expect to find the truth behind her abduction. She is left feeling broken, ashamed and not sure who she can trust.
Then in walks the man that is there to represent her. The feelings that he makes her feel scare her. She is battling within herself to free the things that haunt her, but E

While the Secrets of Betrayal blurb definitely caught my interest, I just didn't realize that it would be an EPIC story that I experienced. I'm not going to go into a lot of details, as no one should go on my words, they should just run to read it, but I'll do my best to try and even touch on the awesomely emotional goodness that I read. Phebe Lawson was betrayed by her boyfriend in the worst way when he sold her into a sex trafficking ring. And when her life had no more meaning, she was rescued ...more

Oh my, where to start? This story, it was different from the others in the series. I say this because the story sounded so dark and I was almost afraid to read it! I'm so glad I did! Yes, it has some dark content, but you can't have light without dark and Phebe needed to find her sunlight again!

Ok, heart breaks for her! After experiencing the worst kind of betrayal, she's left to deal with the aftermath, all the pain, anger and fear! She's a strong woman who is determined to not give

This book is described as a dark read. It does have some dark moments in Phebe's flashbacks of her time in captivity that may be triggers for some readers but it is more about coming out of the darkness for both of them. Phebe and Donovan have both been betrayed by loved ones in their past and are both fighting their way back to living life and not merely just existing in life.

The author has done a great job in expressing the emotions and fears that Phebe has as she attempts to recover from the

OK.  I have a new favorite in the Secrets Series by L.K. Shaw.

I love the darker reads and this one was right up my alley.

Phebe's journey back from her harrowing experience was a tough one to read but it was written very well and I could not put this one down.  Anticipation was the key factor in this story and there was a lot in waiting for Phebe to discover her more submissive side and if it was something she could do and the waiting for Donovan to decide if he can be the Dom she needs.  I ac

The 4th book in the Secrets series features Donovan and Phebe. We meet Phebe just after she was rescued from a sex trafficking ring where she was beat, tortured and raped. She was sold to a Russian who used any means necessary to break her. Donovan comes into the picture to help prepare her to testify against these terrible men. This book was full of raw emotion as Phebe tries to heal from all her abuse and Donovan is there to help restore her trust in men. It definitely has a dark side and may ...more

Secrets of Betrayal is my first book by L.K. Shaw and I just found another dark romance reader to add to my list. I really enjoyed her writing style and the flow just seemed effortless to me.

Phebe has always had a tough life but the last two months have been unbearable and unthinkable.   Her story is painfully sad and dark and with each flash back she had my heart broke a little bit more for her. All I wanted was for her to build up that amazing strength she had buried deep down and thankfully

LK Shaw has quickly become one of my favorite "I have to read" romance authors; but this book is the best one I have read to date.

Phebe Lawson is found after being sold as a sex slave. She is withdrawn and distrustful, but she is willing to testify against her former boyfriend for his part in her abduction. She is put into witness protection, and is left to heal, with the only contact being that of Donovan Jeffries, the attorney in charge of prosecuting. Donovan can't help but be drawn to Phebe

I'm a lover of dark books and after reading the blurb for this one and seeing it was about sex trafficking I thought this is gonna be a deep dark read. However that wasn't quite the case. Yes there were a few dark references during Phebe's flashbacks but majority of the back story of her capture and captivity was excluded.
Even after suffering what was done to her Phebe is a strong willed young woman determined to beat her demons. And she's not alone in that fight. Donovan, the prosecut

There are parts of life that are intense. There are parts of life that are ugly. So please let me warn you if you like to only read books that are not intense and are pretty don't read this. However, if you like to read books with strong well-developed characters who actually arc, powerful dialog, and a story that will leave you believing in true love then this is the book for you.

It is very easy for authors of adult books to get too consumed in the graphic scenes they forget about the story. Th

I have read the first three books in this series and they just get better and better. This book is a little dark but not as dark as I thought it would be. Phebe is a woman who has been rescued from the sex trafficking trade and now she must try to heal and get on with her life. She is a strong woman and with work she will make it. Donovan is the lawyer trying to get justice for her who also is a Dom. He could be very good for Phebe and she could be good for him, if they both can get over what ha ...more
This was a good book, I enjoyed reading it. It was a little dark, but not overly so, and had some very emotional scenes in it.
Phebe is a girl who's just been reached from one of the worst situations a girl could find herself in, and now she has to try and heal from all the emotional trauma she went thru. She's a strong woman though, and determined not to let her past define her. Donovan is the lawyer trying to get justice for her. He could be good for her, if he can just get past the emotional s
