Victoria Morningstar has spent the last ten years in prison, innocent of the brutal murder she was convicted of. Now, thanks to attorney Grady Fletcher, she’s a free woman. Free from prison, yes, but not from the Irish mob or the man who framed her for murder, Seamus McGinn.

By day, she runs a food truck out of a less than stellar neighborhood and by night, she’s scouring every lead she can to try to find her cousin, Vivienne. Tori’s convinced Seamus has kidnapped her cousin, doing unspeakable t

Uncaged Book Reviews:
A shorter read that really packs a lot into the pages. This suspense is a multi-faceted with more going on than a straight crime story. The book never slowed down, and I enjoyed the twists the author took us on. I prefer a bit more of a descriptive book, at times the book felt a bit choppy with time gaps and made me think I missed something. There were a couple things going on that I thought weren’t all that believable, and the romance was steamy and seemed to be a bit too f

This is the first time I have read a book by Kathleen Rowland, and I really enjoyed it. She sent me an offer to read and review, and I’m glad I accepted. I have decided I will not do a synopsis because the book description covers it extremely well.

The writing flowed smoothly, and for the most part, the plot is believable. The characters are intriguing, and the pacing is steady, and at times very fast. There is a lot of action in this story, almost enough to classify it as a thriller.

Unholy Alliance by Kathleen Rowland
Donahue Cousins #2

Can you imagine how you would feel after you had spent ten years in a maximum security prison for a brutal murder you had not committed? Can you imagine how you would feel about the lawyer that appealed your case and won? Can you imagine how you would feel about the person or persons who put you in prison for ten years? AND can you imagine how you would feel if one of your cousins, with you when the murder took place, disappeared?

Unholy Alliance

Within the first few pages of Unholy Alliance, I was hooked into reading and super excited. Very rarely do you pick up a random book to read and have the setting be in your actual backyard! LOL The whole name dropping of Los Angeles, (Ok, a lot of books use Los Angeles) and then Orange County, City of Orange, (People may know the housewives of Orange County, so ok, that may be fairly well-known and used) but then to have the Santa Ana Riverbed just plopped in the middle of a descr

Unholy Alliance follows the story of the wrongfully-convicted and recently-released Tori, who was framed for a murder she witnessed by the real killers, the Irish mob. After she is exonerated, her goal is to find her missing cousin, also an innocent witness to the crime that put Tori away, and to realize her dream of opening a food truck. She is truly starting over and is, in some ways, alone. Her family is strategically keeping its distance given the danger they’re all in and Tori has to build ...more

Unholy Alliance begins on the day Tori Morningstar (aka Victoria Rourke) the name she goes by now, is released from jail for a crime she didn't commit. One horrible night Tori and her cousin, Vivienne, were having dinner at an Irish American restaurant in Long Beach, California. They witnessed a brutal murder. Both of the mobsters' daughters who'd lived privileged lives wanted to leave gang life. Vivienne managed to sneak out the back door. Tori was framed. Tori is convinced Vivienne was nabbed ...more

Steamy and Action-Packed
Unholy Alliance, by Kathleen Rowland, is the second in a series about the Donahue cousins. The cousin in this book is Grady Donahue Fletcher, a lawyer who specializes in appeals for the wrongly convicted. He’s just succeeded in getting Victoria Rourke released after ten years in prison. Now going by Tori Morningstar, she is a member of an Irish mob family who was falsely convicted for a murder actually carried out by rival Irish mobsters. Somehow, all the Irish mobsters l

I was pulled into Unholy Alliance in the first sentence “Don’t let the anxiety of freedom consume you.” I enjoy stories that involve some sort of prison, both tangible and emotional, because I have always been fascinated by the power of the human spirit in overcoming time spent in prison. I also find that for many people, there is the element of an emotional prison we put ourselves in, much like the characters in this story.

Questions flowed through my mind from page one. Imagine spending all th

As a reviewer for Storyreaders' Soiree, I selected Unholy Alliance by Kathleen Rowland. Unholy Alliance is a romantic thriller. Grady Fletcher appeals cases for the wrongly accused. Typically his clients are marginalized, poor and black. Tori Rourke is a mobster's daughter, and Grady's cousin, Finn Donahue, who manages money from the Irish mob is convinced Tori was framed because she tried to escape the life. After Grady wins her release, Tori hits the streets of Long Beach, California in search ...more

Tori is just out of jail after serving ten years for a crime she didn't commit. She had been set up by an Irish mob because she was trying to escape them with her cousin, Vivienne.

When she gets out of jail she makes it her mission to find Vivienne and decides to set up a food truck smack bang in mob central After ten years in jail she is fearless and can defend herself from gangsters.

Things get a little complicated when she gets romantically involved with the lawyer who defended her, Grady who i

This short read was great. I liked how the story was not one dimensional as it has crime, suspense and romance. I liked Tori and Grady although this type of romance is common between an accused (though wrongfully accused in this case) and an investigator and/or their lawyer. A short easy read which I think the writer should expand on it as so much goes on in this short story it seems a bit incomplete. Nonetheless a delightful read which I enjoyed.

Mafia, suspense, and the rugged shores of California paint the setting for this high-stakes tale, rounded out with outrageous carnival food.

Unholy Alliance by Kathleen Rowland has all the makings of a terrific romance thriller. Unfortunately, for me, it fell short of its potential.

The main characters, Tori and Grady are both likable enough, although at times I found them to be stereotypical. The plot, while moving forward in a fast-paced linear way, was often just too far fetched. The cousin who has been missing for ten years appears almost instantly, bad guys are always just where the good guys expect them to be, and everyone's hun

This is a short, quick read that focuses on a wrongly imprisoned woman working with the appeals lawyer that freed her and the FBI to bring down the man that framed her and find her cousin.

The book is fast paced and there's the romance aspect that I think a lot of readers would enjoy. There's a twist at the end that should lead up to the next book in the series.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of on this book and while it mainly focuses on Tori and Grady, I would have liked to have kno

Unholy Alliance is book two in Kathleen Rowland's Donahue Cousins series. I read Deadly Alliance and have been waiting for the release of this one. Unholy Alliance is a stand alone, but Finn Donahue and Amy Kintyre appear briefly which was fun.
The heroine Tori Rourke (now going by the last name Morningstar) received legal assistance from Finn's cousin, lawyer Grady Donahue Fletcher, who represents the wrongly accused. Tori is a mobster's daughter, framed by the mob for murder after she'd tried

Book Buyers Best finalist Kathleen Rowland is a people person who writes romantic suspense. Her day job as a programmer analyst was never as interesting as observing office politics. On a larger-than-life scale, her heroes and heroines get caught up in downward spirals and external disasters. Something beautiful comes out of suffering.
