Again, since this is my book, I'm a bit biased. However, I did enjoy writing it. It was fun to fly back to Dragon's Future and see what Duskya and Ruskya were like in their early years. It was also challenging to not enable them to do things they hadn't learned yet and to keep their relationship with Glendyn so formal. As for Mere's story, that was unique. I didn't know what would happen and am very satisfied with the ending.

It is the story of youngling Duskya as seen through her granddaughter's eyes. Mere wants to be a dragon rider, but so far, no dragon has chosen her. Duskya gives her granddaughter a journal from her first winter as a rider, hoping it will clear up some things for Mere. Turns out, dragon riding isn't the only desirab ...more

In this book, Ms. Wyatt weaves a story within a story, much as she did in Dragon's Cure. In my opinion, her technique works very well and adds dimension and warmth to this prequel.

When a teenaged Mere is antagonized by a bully whom she used to call a friend, her grandmother Duskya gives her a journal that Duskya herself kept as a youngling, documenting her early days as a dragon rider. The parallels between Duskya's struggles and Mere's help Mere realize how best to deal with her problem.

Even as a young girl, Kandi J Wyatt, had a knack for words. She loved to read them, even if it was on a shampoo bottle! By high school Kandi had learned to put words together on paper to create stories for those she loved. Nowadays, she writes for her kids, whether that's her own five or the hundreds of students she's been lucky to teach. When Kandi's not spinning words to create stories, she's us ...more
