Es ist schwer sich vorzustellen wie es ist, wenn man mit zwölf oder dreizehn Jahren mitbekommt, dass die eigene Mutter mit DEM Doppelagenten und Meisterspion Kim Philby in den 30er Jahren verheiratet war. Wie hätte ich mich wohl in dieser Situation verhalten? Barbara Honigmann hat nicht wirklich viel von der Vergangenheit ihrer Mutter erfahren. Die war – ob von Natur aus oder antrainiert – eine sehr geheimnisvolle Frau. Eine, die wohl wenn möglich nicht log, aber doch nie ganz die Wahrheit sagte ...more

Kort, vlot lezend, in een zakelijke stijl maar niet gespeend van humor. Zeer interessante blik in het leven van een Oostenrijks-joodse communiste voor, tijdens en na WO II, door de ogen van haar dochter. Hoe er over veel weinig te vertellen valt en over weinig toch veel. Bijzondere prestatie.

I have read a short story from Barbara Honigmann in my reading class "New German Jewish Authors" and wanted to read more from her, but not all of her books are available in English. This book is about her mother, I love how she writes about her.

Niet tot het einde uitgelezen, maar vond het dan ook niet zo geweldig. Wellicht dat ik het later nog eens lees.
